Should refining ore increase my smithing experience?

Should refining ore be increasing my blacksmithing experience; only it doesn't seem to be?
I'm pretty sure that when I've refined rough wood I've gained some woodworking experience but this doesn't seem to be happening with blacksmithing (I'll keep a close eye on it next time though just to be sure).

✭Nope, you don't level crafting at all by refining, crafting is designed to be a mind-numbingly long drawn-out process unless you exploited it before ZOS closed the flaws.Edited by KerinKor on April 25, 2014 6:56AM0 -
Cabot✭✭✭Refining doesn't provide crafting exp. The woodworking exp you thought you received, probably didn't happen, or it was actually from deconstruction.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭No inspiration from any refining. However, you get upgrade & trait gems, so there is some value to it. There is a skill that increases this probability.
This is why you want to refine.
OP: I've had no problems keeping my crafting skills above-level by deconstructing every non-researchable piece of gear I get while I'm out in the world. Deconstruction and research will account for most of your inspiration.----
