Back to real game topics: Emotes, will they be displayed in written form?

Dear Zenimax, dear community,

with all the bot frenzy and other hot topics, the small, little but to some of us still relevant topics fly under the radar.

Today I would like to ask you all about emotes. At the moment there are a LOT of emotes in the game, which is great. Unfortunately many of them are very subtle and not sounded (sadly, sound emotes are always the best ones!), so they can easily be missed.

My wish would be to display them in the chat box, just like in all the other games. OR find a more innovative solution.

I know quite well, there are many of you that just like to do a /dance from now and then and do not care about it at all, or think that it gets too spammy. There certainly should be an option or addon to turn off the emote chat.

I know even better that there are many roleplayers and people that just like to do some cool things with their characters except spamming abilities in the middle of crowd to be the hit on the streets.

Thanks for listening to this, at the moment, very silent topic.

Not exactly sure what you're asking for in this post. At first it sounds like you want to have something in the chat area with all the emotes listed, then later you make it sound like you don't want them and wish to have a command to disable emotes from people around you.

As for the emotes in your chat, there are many on ESOUI.com. I believe the one I'm using came with Wykkyd's ESO Essentials. I may be wrong.

I would like emotes in the chat window:

    (zone) Sellerboy12: WTS bear flanks!
    Yshaar shakes his head.
    Kyosji is angry about Yshaar.

stuff like that. Like in every other MMO I played.

ah you mean to actually say
"Kalei slaps kisses Haven" or so in the chat?
that would be nice, but wouldn't the chat become crowded then?
because for example, I like spamming different emotes just for fun to see how my character reacts.
but if it were to say "Kalei kisses Haven" 20 times in the chat
    or something like
"Kalei kisses Haven" "Kalei slaps Haven" "Kalei plays the guitar" etc...
I'm pretty sure people would start hunting me down if they saw my name in pvp XD

    Agreed.
    - Current emotions are subtle.
    - They should be sounded.
    - There should be duplicated with text messages with option to turn off these messages in that particular chat tab.
@d0e1ow: There is no singular thing within a game's little ecosystem that will convince you that you hate the game, hate your life, and hate everyone around you faster than the game's official forums will.

@TaffyIX: Life is too short to get upset by a video game.

I don't think emotes should be shown in the chat.
People can figure out what emotes you are using anyway and others will use it to spam (like every other MMO).
    Currently playing:
    Swims-In-Sap - CP200+ - Argonian Templar

I like my healing like i like my characters: generic

We also need an INGAME list of emotes, I shouldn't have to google the emotes.....

They should be displayed in chat, with the option to disable them for those who don't want to see them or are afraid they'll get spammed. I'll never understand why people polarize to one end or the other when there can always be the choice to disable things, thereby considering what is best for everyone, which is fair.

It wouldn't be good to display text every time you do an emote animation. It would result in spam.

Try an addon named AutoEmote. With it when you /say or /emote something the addon automatically makes you play a fitting animation.

    /e dances happily

    (emote) Fish-Breath dances happily
    (Animation automatically plays)

Agreed. Display them in chat. The ability to add custom emotes adds so much flavor and personality for any player. I get the worry about emote spam but thats easily handled with a spam limiter of some sort.

Funny thing is in the chat settings, there's an option for emotes, but I've never seen it make a difference. Could be something they already have planned or just need fixing. On the other hand I imagine they could make an add-on. I don't think you can monitor other people's action as people were making add-ons that told you like what spell someone was casting and people got all upset about it being cheating. So it was banned afaik, which means something like and emote monitoring add-on would be too. I imagine there could be an add-on that when you do an emote it maybe sends a message to the chat or even its own separate window or something. In one of the add-ons it adds a big thin box just above skills for subtitles. Maybe it could be done like that.
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

The chat setting isn't for the played animations, it's for written /emote texts. Write for example "/e dances happily" to write "(your name) dances happily" in chat window.

Custom emotes? Isn't that what /emote does already?

Is it just me who considers emotes something utterly useless and not worth to even mention at all in ANY game ?
