Why im NOT buying the next dlc

From a PvP perspective, this new patch brings nothing new to us. Every other major DLC has included new mechanics, or gear into the game, that pvp players could take advantage from.
Morrowind: Warden Class
Summerset: Jewerly Crafting
Elseweyr: Necromancer Class
Greyhost: Mythics
Oblivion: ???

The next "new thing" is companions. It's a cool thing, and definitely looks fun, but its been confirmed to not work in pvp so as a main pvp player, its simply not worth it to buy an entire chapter for a companion i wont be able to use.

I hope for the next dlc after this one, ZOS can add some new race, or class, or system that pvp players also can enjoy :)

There will probably be some mythic Antiquarian item, craftable gear, or dropped gear found in the new zone that becomes a new must-have BIS META item. At least, that seems to be the way these things work. Personally, I don't chase BIS METAs, so I'm fairly clueless about which particular gear or class or skill or whatever is all the rage during any particular week.

New PvP content: Deathmatch, two players enter the arena. Only the winner leaves, the other one gets their character deleted. Dead is dead afterall!

Edit: Sorry, was in a joking mood. I'm hoping ZOS can fix Cyrodiil. As this may open up a whole new way to huge new PvP zones.

There isn't a lot of reason to buy it for PVE, either. At least, not at full price. A zone. Companions. It is a very thin Chapter.

Unless you have to be there on day 1, there isn't really anything demanding pre-order, or even full price payment.

Well, from a PvP perspective there's not really much reason to buy any DLC or chapter, ever, especially since Imperial City is now free to "buy" and Morrowind is now included when buying the base game. Those are the only two that actually added new PvP content per se. Other DLCs and chapters might have added skills or classes or gear which became BIS META in the view of PvPers, but those skills and classes and gear were created for everyone, not just for PvPers.

As someone who has been PVPing since SWG Pre-CU days, I feel you man. We are now the minority here as compared to the 2014 launch, so we don't get anything new. Most of us are just wasting time here while we wait for Camelot Unchained, or to see what kind of mess New World turns out to be.

I'm in the same boat, & good with it. ZOS needs to "fix" PvP with a dedicated plan for its future.

That said, I am all-in if ZOS adds the Goblin race play.

Well, I pre-ordered it, but it was much harder this time. Antiquities was more interesting to me than Companions, especially how ZOS looks to be implementing them. I expect them to be just a bunch of clones, like the banker and merchant. They can't have them really impact game play, so they won't be OP. I see this as a cosmetic system more than anything, and that means Crown Store and Crown Crates are a big reason they are doing this. Overall, I expect to be rather bummed about what they didn't do. PTS will tell.

I must say Blackwood as a zone plus the Oblivion portals look amazing.

I‘m still not going to buy it (yet), as it’s completely overpriced for the amount of content and my interest in Companions is zero (it might be even negative, I despise them wholeheartedly).

And after Greymoor, which was a complete letdown, I’ll wait for the sale when I can get it for 10 bucks. I’m not going to pay $40 for a Chapter that doesn’t have a new class, new skill line or new profession.

One simple change to Cyrodiil could turn the world over. Make the Deadland portals spawn there, a portal for each faction to fight it out at the boss.

Not sure it's just from a PvP perspective.

I can't see a lot of PvE players buying into companions either. Seems more like a RP/questing thing tbh.

Yeh it's a wager thin update.

But there will be some OP mythic item or BIS bind on pickup item that will only drop in the zone I imagine.

We are getting a new trial. Maybe the gear will be BiS. Theres also new overland and crafted sets. They better be good or the chapter is kinda meh. Not sure if I would buy it just for the companions either.

Would be interesting if the portal spawn rate was increased based on the number of castles held. Might cut down on monochrome maps. And could offer interesting tactical choices. DC holds the Chalamo with the portal right there, or clean up their own territory and let EP deal with the portal and retaking castle.

The only reason I am playing the chapter this year because it is a heavily Argonian themed zone.

I do agree that PVP should be getting more content. Every chapter & zone DLC should include 1 to 2 battlegrounds.

For me my primary issue is just how lackluster Overland and main story encounters are. Don’t get me wrong they’re very visually appealing it and it has decent writing, but the gameplay is so lackluster.

The only places to find engaging gameplay are endgame, which I have to get a group together for, and PVP.

The rest of it feels more like a walking simulator, which doesn’t make it worth very much to me - in my opinion.
I would like to be able to enjoy the solo questing experience.

However, I cannot get excited for a story that I know is going to be a breeze to beat. Even if I do Nerf myself, that just makes it longer & tedious - not actually fun

I am excited because it doesn't have all these extraneous things and it is just a very big zone with hopefully lots going on.

Greymoor was super disappointing small focused on Solitude without other quest hubs. Elseweyr was nice and big and navigable but rather empty with large parts of the zone given over to dragons. Summerset was compact certainly more alive than Elseweyr but there we big mountains in an already small zone. vvaadenfel had 3 big cities and a few other questing cities and still had space for emptiness.

I remember complaining about vvaadenfel for things like locked doors but in hindsight it was the biggest most content-filled zone. probably because they had the most time to work on it.

If no extra stuff has let them focus on filling out the world more I'll still be happy.

The zone is as big / has as much content as any other Chapter zone. All Chapters are basically exactly the same in size and scope. Greymoor was pretty disappointing, I agree, and the separation between Western Skyrim and Blackreach was more confusing than exciting.

We pretty much know what is in the Chapter, at this point. All that is left is implementation details that we will find out on PTS. They are not telling us all the details about Companions, but they want to. What is holding them back is that I don't think they were quite finished with them. Given what ZOS has done in the past, it is not hard to extrapolate into what Companions will be like. They will reveal all in an article that will be published soon.

I'm a PvPer too. I noticed that this game is PvE oriented. Vast majority of the zones, DLCs / Chapters, quests, events, gear obtaining methods, etc. are PvE. Even the so-called PvP events drop tickets for PvE tasks (like rescuing NPCs).

I don't expect they will make new PVp contents in the foreseeable future. It's good enough if they simply improve servers of Cyrodiil.

By the way, I won't buy the new DLC / Chapter at launch, but I may if there's a huge discount like a year later.
No improvement on Cyrodill servers -> no ESO plus renewal.

    I preordered the chapter.

I do a bit of everything, PVP, trials, dungeons, questing and I am interested in the story.
Companions, Im not excited about at all as I dont really see how Im going to use them.
I definitely dont need them for questing/overland content so maybe for dungeons?
    We will see.

I definitely do not want to see any new classes until we either get more characters slots (which they said they are not giving us for the foreseeable future) or a class change token.

I would greatly prefer the class change token because I have 18 characters that I dont want to delete and I am sick and tired of leveling up a horse for 6 months for every new character I make and buying it from the crown store is too expensive.

I don't have 18 characters yet, so I plan to create another new character on each server to claim the new free housing and see what the new tutorial is like.

But I'm definitely not looking forward to leveling up their riding skill or doing crafting research on them.

Leaving ESO is the hardest thing. You just keep on playing because that is what you have been doing for years. The same map for about 7 years. Someone said that hopefully ESO can revive the pvp to have new pvp content. That would be great. There are many who know the every tree or stone in Cyrodill.

Sure, but Mythics, for example, wouldn't have added anything to PvP for Greymoor unless the Mythics had been useful for PvP. Blackwood will come with new Mythics, but we don't know how many, or what they are yet.

Plus, the new tradeable sets, alchemy ingredients, and combat changes could still show that they're still paying attention to PvP and breathe life into it. It's fair for you to not feel incentivized to buy Blackwood, but I don't feel super left out as a PvP player.

We also just legit don't know if they have some features and changes for Cyrodiil or PvP in general planned, other than the server upgrades and Cyro campaigns with special rules (like no proc sets). I don't see much point in brooding in pessimism at this point—I'll just wait to see what we get pretty soon. There's often a "Combat Preview" that spawns endless, doom-filled speculation sometime before PTS drops.

None of this is Chapter related. The only things left for the Chapter-exclusive stuff are indeed the new armor sets and potential Mythic items (I haven't heard them say that there will be new Blackwood-related Mythics). And if the Mythics are not exclusive to Blackwood zones, they aren't even Chapter-exclusive. So the only stuff left are indeed the armor sets specific for the Blackwood zone and trial - that's really not enough to warrant a $40 pricetag in my opinion.
