Its hard to rank the top, in part because nostalgia and the pre-One Tamriel experience heavily clouds my thoughts on the Planemeld/Alliances Arc.

But the Dark Heart of Skyrim is down at the bottom for me. When the first part of Greymoor was basically rehashing all the info we discovered in the dungeons and the prologue quest, and Markarth had a gigantic plot hole based around my character stupidly never sharing the plot-important info she'd been told in the villain's early monologue...it's the only storyline that's left me not just dissatisfied, but also doubting the writers. This was the storyline that really encapsulated the problems of the year-long story for me. It wanted to tell a story in Q1, then realized it had to spend so much time recapping info for brand new players in Q2, then saved its big story for the Q4 DLC only to treat my Vestige like an idiot who incapable of putting two and two together when the villain spells out the pieces of his plot in the first story quest. Thanks, writers. I hope you do better with Blackwood .

    Daedric War (Morrowind/Clockwork City/Summerset)
    Planemeld
Alliance (EP/AD/DC) Though I think the Dominion has the weakest story line of the three
    Season of The Dragon
    Thieves Guild
    Dark Brotherhood
    Mage’s Guild
    Fighter’s Guild
    Orsinium

    Dark Heart of Skyrim
    Imperial City

I have a space between Orsinium and Dark Heart because I think the last two are considerably worse than the others. I am not an orc fan but even Orsinium had a much better story than the last two.

To be honest, problem with majority of questlines in this game for me is I forget what happened in start before I get to end.
There is just so much forgettable menial tasks for forgettable ncps one can do to save the world before everything is total blur.

Sometimes I think it also depends on what you encounter when. Murkmire I loved because it was so different to the usual and also whilst it started out as 'raiders of the lost ark goes eso' it rapidly turns into something quite different and unexpected rather than the now over-rehashed daedric meddling, nobody believes you, insert twist, reveal, bossfight, close.

Greymoor was probably the worst by far. About 20% of the way in the 'plot twist' might as well have been painted in flashing neon lights. The reach was a bit better but more of a quick short story than any real content. Some of the other stuff in it was good like all the antiquity furnishing and the like but as a story no.

    I guess I'd go
    Main quest
    Alliance quests
    Elsweyr
Clockwork (the rest of the Morrowind line really didn't grab me so much, and I'd also like to shove the psijic questline somewhere....)
    Murkmire

Too many toons not enough time

Haven't finished Dark heart of Skyrim yet but overall I tend to prefer the more "humans" stories, involving power struggling, factions politics, treasons for understandable (or not) reasons, etc; this kind of things based on the mortals feelings and sins.

Even if most of the time we end up learning that all this mess was because of cosmic forces manipulations, I still prefer that than straight "OMG, THE EVIL IS ATTACKING ! SAVE US GREAT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD !"

So I would say that each time I really like the first parts of the stories and then my enthusiasm tend to decrease (but still like the story it anyway, it's simply "less". Well most of the time.) when we finally know that all of that was done because of the really evil vilain and that we have to fight him with a really powerfull artifact, shooting lasers with our eyes everywhere.

    So : Alliances
    Murkmire
    Orsinium
    Thieves/Dark Brotherhood
    Daedric War/Season of the Dragon
    Evertyhing else.

    Not enough granularity there.

The main quest is at the top, and I doubt there will be much argument there.

But the alliance story lines are a VERY mixed bag.

    Rivenspire excels.
    Stonefalls is putrid.
The AD multi-zone story started very well and descended into tedium.
    Etc.

Clockwork City was also vastly better than Vvardenfell/Morrowind.
    So was Summerset.

Daedric War (would have been top if Summerset had stuck the landing and not exchanged Nocturnal for Mephala for some reason).

Orsinium — lovely city design, good non-apocalyptic story, cool puzzle, and you're not play in dialogue simulator only.

Daedric War — the truly one year epic story with 3 awesome (and different!) locations. There are some problems, yes, and some moments are repeat itself, but this is the best Chapters. And I'm not a nostalgia fan of TES 3. :D Summerset is the only one part in the whole TESO where I cried.

Imperial City — the real dark story, your Hero can't be a hero and safe everyone.

Thieves Guild — even considering that I guessed about the plot twist on the 2nd quest, I think this is a good example how to tell about a characters in your team. Awesome city.

Murkmire — atmospheric location. The story didn't impress me so much as it planned, but still it's a nice non-apocalyptic story.

Season of The Dragon — well, it could be better and more focused on Elsweyr policy, not a dragon nostalgia. Euraxia was the better villain than the 3 other, it's a shame her "elimination" was lackluster. Not bad some of changing of Tharn, and I hope ZoS wouldn't ruin his little story during the arch via what they likes to do with a hype characters.

Alliances — I don't like the Pact story. Its' storyline is focused on other alliances vilification to make itself as "good" side, so it was unpleasant to questing there with DC character. Dominion is better, but Valenwood locations are spoils the impression. And Ayrenn. Yes, many players likes her, but she's not so good ruler as it may seems, and the troubles with a conspirators was her fault. I like Covenant mostly for local stories and some interesting characters (more than any other alliance). I just don't like Alik'r. And Redguards for their godliness.

Planemeld — I found it boring and overly pathos. Mannimarco is a clown, not a terrifying necromancer for all the story of Tamriel, all Companions except Tharn are flat and lifeless. Only Tharn and side plot with a Coldharbor assault brought variety to this story. Funny thing that the end of Coldharbor assault plot has killed some characters offscreen and then they were resurrected later.

Dark Brotherhood — I'm not a fan of Dark Brotherhood, so this story wasn't interesting to me. The plot is not hesitate to be a violent and bloody — it's a rare thing in TESO. None of the characters on our side we know very well, so there was no one to empathize with. The best character for me is Elam Drals, I like his tales. :)

Fighter’s Guild & Mage’s Guild — I don't even remember what was in Fighter’s Guild lol. The Mage’s Guild is fine but Shalidor is annoying for me, I can't say that I see a great person in him.

Dark Heart of Skyrim — the worst Chapter, the worst zone DLC, the worst story. The better parts were Harrowstorm dungeons and the both Prologues — they turned out to be more interesting, than a general story parts. The plot tries to copy Dawnguard, Rivenspire and Dragonhold plots. The old characters are degraded, became empty or repulsive, the new characters tries to copy some better examples or loosed their potential and became pathetic in the end. The best and pleasant character is Old Mjolen. Our character have the most idiotic answers and questions. And all this with a ton of fan-service and political correctness — if I start to give specific examples, my words will be deleted by the moderators, so I just say that Greymoor and Markarth are a zones I have unpleasant to explore in terms of Lore and direction that ZoS have taken for a luring audience.

I haven't played all of them so I'll just rate the ones that I have:

    1) Year of the Dragon

I was torn for first place, but the story was amazing, the environments beautiful and the way ZOS made sure to include all the Khajit types and customs was great. It had an epic feel which no other storyline managed to deliver (yet), and more Cadwell, which is never a bad thing.

    2) Orsinium

I live Orsinoum, the environments are beautiful (and huge) and the storyline was so satisfying. It dealt with the orc lore really well and gave the orcs what they really needed- a home.

    3) The deadric war (Morrowind, Clockwork City and Summerset).

So close to number 1 for me, a great story and a great way to weave 3 very distinct areas. My only gripe is that I found Summerset a little boring and the ending wasn't epic enough. Aside from that, it was great.

    5) Dark Heart of Skyrim

I really enjoyed this storyline, and it was great seeing Solitude and the Reach again. I have rated it lower as I don't like the harrowstorm mechanic and I have struggled to get into antiquities.

    4) The Planemeld

You cannot beat a classic, but sadly things have happened since which have been detrimental to it. Whilst it was great seeing Sai and Lori's again, it took away from what was a fitting ending for them. Also the quests are a bit easy, they definitely should be harder.

    5) Murkmire

I really enjoyed Murkmire, but the villain wasn't epic enough and it had to follow in the wake of the daedruc war storyline, which didn't do it any favours.

    6) Base Zone storyline

Some were stronger than others (looking at you Malabal Tor) but generally these are great fun and really bring Tamriel to life. They lack the epicness of future DLC (having said that, The Alikr is amazing, along with Blackmarsh) and they feel a bit aged now.

    6) Mages Guild

The storyline was great fun and was a bug relief from all the doom of the Planemeld storyline. My only irk is that I expected more from Eyevea.

    7) Craglorn

I really like Craglorn and it's storyline but the fact I can only experience part of it as a single player irks me. It was a noble attempt at something different but didn't really work.

    8) Fighters Guild

I find this storyline very hard going, and it seems very magic based, which doesn't seem right. It is epic though, and the reveal of the true villain at the end is one of the best in the game.

Daedric and Dragon as the best for me, in particular because they got the always interesting Tribunal, that old mother sniffer Divayth and the magnificent *** Abnur, two of my favourite characters in TES lore ever. It was a bit sad to see him so weak, and I really hope he returns because he's amazing. I liked the Alliance ones as well

worst: Mages guild, Murkmire. Sheogorath and his incredibly annoying realm, and the lizards' world tries really hard to get my attention, but I just dont care

middle of the road: thieves, Orsinium, DB, planemeld, GM. Not great, not bad, just very typical

Daedric War is by far the best one, with Summerset being the best part of ESO that developers have created so far. A shining pinnacle of the game, story-wise, characters-wise, etc. Both by itself, and as the final part of the trilogy. Everything that came out after it so far, looks like an afterword to me.

Main quest is on the second place, with a considerable gap though. Classic one, and the beginning of everything, including the origin of the most notable characters of the game. I count the Imperial City as a part of the Main quest, because it's about "Plan B" of Molag Bal.

Season of the Dragon is the third.

Dark Brotherhood is the worst for me. This story simply has no place for my character. Everything else is inbetween.
