SLI support

Furianna

When will you guys fix the issue with SLI/Crossfire not working?

Nvidia and AMD have both said on their forums it is an issue with the game, not their drivers and until you guys resolve it SLI/Crossfire will not work properly.

When will this happen?

Looking at the long list of other issues they've not done anything about yet, I don't expect this to be fixed any time soon. :(

I'd imagine they have different teams for GPU optimisation and game fixes?

Zenimax doesn't add "SLI support" to the game. SLI is a driver thing, meaning it's something AMD/Nvidia have to get working properly in the drivers. Nvidia at least has been said to be preparing new drivers that will improve performance with both single card and SLI setups, for sometime in April. AMD I haven't heard, but I assume they are working on it as well.

The only thing that Zenimax does need to do (and they have said they are working on) is to add a true full screen mode to the game, as fullscreen/windowed has some performance penalties, moreso with SLI.

This is not entirely true. While the driver side of SLI/Crossfire is a huge component of it, game developers are not entirely absolved of all responsibility towards making sure that the game will function properly on a SLI or Crossfire configuration. Sometimes games do experience issues when running on SLI or Crossfire and it is up to the game developer to patch the game to address those problems.

For example, Titanfall released a month ago without proper Crossfire or SLI support from AMD/Nvidia. At first, many people blamed AMD/Nvidia for the lack of support, but it was later discovered (and confirmed) that Titanfall had issues related specifically to SLI and Crossfire.

This was confirmed on Titanfall's official Twitter:

Now here is a post made on the official Geforce forums by a Nvidia employee in a topic discussing SLI support for Titanfall:
If there is no SLI profile out for a AAA game before or on the release date, its usually due to issues on the game side rather than our side.
    https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/705350/sli/no-titanfall-sli-profile-seriously-/post/4153188/#4153188

Here's a quote from Titanfall's latest patch notes. This proves that the game developers do have to apply fixes that impact the functionality of SLI or Crossfire with their games.
    • Fixed graphics corruption and some GPU underutilization for SLI and Crossfire configurations.
    http://www.titanfall.com/news/titanfall-patch-update-two

Here's another post from the Geforce forums:
We are working with Zenimax Online to develop SLI compatibility in The Elder Scrolls Online. We are doing the same with Repsawn Entertainment and Titanfall, and we did the same with Creative Assembly and Rome II, which now scales extremely well in SLI with 337.50 Beta.
    https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/721412/sli/elder-scrolls-sli-profile/post/4181979/#4181979

Note how they say they are working with ZOS to develop SLI compatibility. If SLI compatibility rested solely with Nvidia, why do they specifically have to work together with the game developer to add it?

Nvidia made those tools available to developers long ago. It's not just a 'driver thing' any more.

The reason ESO is a game side issue, it's because the game doesn't run in true fullscreen, it runs in a borderless window. Zenimax have said that they will be making it true fullscreen at some point

Something is wrong with zenimax devs.. The game is out about a month and NVIDIA havent even made a performance driver for it... Nvidia released a new driver just yesterday and ESO is not included! Even the beta drivers, dont include ESO.

Nvidia trully supported Skyrim but they dont seem to be interested in ESO. Maybe because its not full screen.

Yawn... My GPU is hardly used on max settings in ESO and my SLI is not making the game crash why do we need it? Its like the people asking for 64bit version? why? My FPS in always in the 80-90s in mass PVP battles why worry

I prefer borderless myself, strange things happen when you alt-tab out of most games :D
"In 2014, a possible bot was sent to coldharbour by a military GM for a crime she didn't commit. This argonian promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Ebonheart underground. Today, still wanted by the developers she survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a bot problem, if no one else can bite you, and if you can find her....maybe you can hire The SQUISHY."

    Nah

The game looks very beautiful and the gpu and cpu do about 50% / 60% load.
Eso runs smooth and stable i think this game is pretty optimized.
And there is room for improvement.

    i5 3570k 4ghz
    r9 280x oc

Damn now i think of it, this is the most stable day one game i played in a long time. And it is a MMO!
I like games and can look forward to it. Even to the point i get stupid and pre order. Simcity, skyrim for ps3, battlefield 4, citadels, total war rome 2.

    I get stupid a lot..

    lol

Try jumping up to the big boy resolutions instead of mainstream low end 1080 res. If you want to play at 1440, 1600 or 4k you need SLI if you want to stay in the 80fps range on max settings. I run 2 780ti's and while it is generally smooth at my resolution there are heavy rendering times that it will drop into the 40-50's. While that is playable for sure it isn't satisfying knowing half of my rendering capability is sitting idle. I play on the PC for a high end experience, if I wanted marginal gaming I'd be using a PS4 or Xbone.

This is an issue with the game, not card drivers. Not being true full screen is probably the biggest issue but it might not be the only one.

HOW TO RUN ESO IN SLI Nvidia ONLY!

Goto your INI user game settings under documents/eso

Change SET GPUSmoothing "0" < this allows correct scaling

Then goto NVidia control panel create a ESO profile...

Under the eso profile for SLI Rendering select Force alternate rendering 2

Also for power plan select maximum performance.
    Run eso as admin

;] good luck to all hope this helps

I know about this already. It only sort of works. While you will see both GPU's being used it is hardly optimal and barely a band-aid to the problem. There are several issues with this and it is not nearly as effective as true SLI support.

Right. Now I find this amazing, there is some really smart people talking and really dumb people. Let me explain. Graphics they are controlled within the game and outside the game. If you have 2 cards but only 1 card is working then yes, the options available ingame can be maxxed and it will run smoothly. However, if you go into AMD Catalyst and set anti-aliasing mode to override and set the samples to 16xEQ, Filter=Edge Detect, Anti-Aliasing Method = Supersampling, Anisotropic=Override, Anisotropic Filtering Level 16x, Tessellation Mode=Override, Maximum Tessellation Level x64. Once they are all setup and programmed to override your game settings in ESO settings, your card will not be able to keep up and you will get some horrible graphics, tearing, lag and your card will be at 100% load and the temp will sore after the first hour to 80c+. So when you talk about 1 card. Yes. 1 card plays the game. But if you want THE BEST, you'll need a titan card or SLI/Crossfire. Try putting them settings shown above active and load your game. It will be horrid.

    Sigh, wrong.

The game engine needs to be optimized for it and seeing they are using a game engine that supports SLi & Crossfire, there is no reason to not have it and it could fix a lot of peoples issues, graphically.

If you have a system that is SLi or Crossfire enabled, then you already have the driver that enables it, it then comes down to the game engine and client enabling it, which has nothing to do with drivers.....

Right, so now I want you try and play the game on a bigger monitor than you 14" screen on a resolution size greater then 640x480.......
