Have always played on console so always used controller.

But have to say that using keyboard + mouse would make it feel much more like work.....

Overall KB+M is better for me. But I'm not oblivious to the advantages that a controller has.

It's certainly more comfortable holding a controller than having your arms up on a desk using a kb+m for long periods of time. With KB+M you are stuck in a single position which is unhealthy. Controller means you can get up and move around while still playing if you wish.

Controller analog stick makes movements more precise, albeit at the expense of faster turn movements allowed with a mouse.

But KB+M has waaaaaaay more buttons, far better fast precision and you can interact far better with inventory and menus which is a huge part of the game (for better or worse).

I use K&M for "computer" games (FPS, RPGs, strategy, etc). I use a controller for "console"/arcade games (platformers, JRPGs, twin-stick shooters) & driving games.

So, yeah - always used K&M for MMOs & TES games. (and play TES in first person. ESO works better in third as it was designed for that. Unlike the awful 3rd-person in TES.)

But I don't have any kind of "gaming" mouse. I use a basic $8 logitech 2-button+wheel model.
(the one time I had a mouse with shoulder buttons, I ended up physically disabling them because I was constantly misclicking them just from holding & moving the mouse. I grip the sides, so side buttons are a huge no-go.)

Controller feels nice for combat, but when I played on PC for a short while I like mouse for menu navigation.

I use both on PC and console.
Switching between is instant, as both enabled at the same time.

I have tried and love both - PS4 at first, then keyboard & mouse when I eventually replaced my ageing desktop. I probably prefer the controller ever so slightly for some of the easier combat content. Overall, it has to be keyboard & mouse because navigation generally feels more intuitive to me.

It is instant if you aren't busy fighting a mob at the time, but if you are you have to finish that first, then make the switch, then type what you want to say, then switch back for combat. This makes for a slow experience.

No, because my hands are already on the keyboard and there is no pausing for switching.

Fight a mob > beat said mob > type > fight next mob

    is a lot quicker than

fight a mob > beat said mob> switch from controller to keyboard > type > switch from keyboard to controller > fight next mob.

OK to each his own but switching for me is just reaching my left hand out to the keyboard with the controller in the right, similar to when I use Mouse/Keyboard.
And I am as old as dirt. lol

I often wonder why some say "you have no thumbs" then I realize the younger gens are talking about typing with their thumbs on a smartphone keyboard while older folk still hunt and peck at a phone keyboard.

I do neither. I swipe on my smart phone keyboard. It's much faster than using thumbs and pecking one letter at a time.

After watching friends playing games with controllers there is no way I will ever cripple myself to that extent.

My 180 is instant and accurate. My ability to kite wildly while being able to fight at the same time is not going to be nerfed. I did my first running 360s after putting down a Cyber in Doom. Just for fun, and still do sometimes.

My ability to run, jump and turn, is my joy really, kinda why I play video games at 74.

If you mean voice chat that wouldn't work. He doesn't like voice chat and I don't want to sit around with a headset on all day either.

I was visiting my best friend some time ago, and I tried playing a game with a controller. It was a real mess. First time since the early 2000s that I've touched one. Can't imagine how difficult it would be for me to play ESO with a controller, so I'm sticking to keyboard + mouse

I started as a console gamer. So naturally, when I switched to PC and realized how much more control I had over my character, I switched and never looked back. .

Also, this is coming from someone that played Halo 1 tournaments at a national level back in the day (with a controller obviously). Counter Strike on PC is what converted me. But of course, to each their own.

I've never had consoles, and have no interest in controllers; KB+M for me since my first windows computer in 1986 - prior machine in 1985 was DOS 3.2 or something.

And while my keyboard is an original Logi G15, my mouse is exactly like yours: 2 button + wheel - this one I think was $6.95 from amazon shipped free with Prime. I have a razer of some sort upstairs that came with this computer - I unpacked it, looked at all the buttons on the sides, and repacked it. I too hold and move the mouse with thumb on the left side, and little finger on the right side, leaving the other three fingers for buttons and wheel.

WAY too many years that way to change now!

ESO doesn't need very many buttons compared to most MMORPG's, but being able to snap to heads on a dime multiple times withing 4 or 5 seconds means I can apply dots or debuffs on a group of enemy players as fast as the GDC will allow me. I have not been able to replicate those same results with a controller.

I wish it was comfortable for me to play this game with a controller, I play most any other game with one if I can, but I can't make it work for me, so I stick to keyboard and mouse.

I just want to add that this is an accessibility issue for PC, which I know ZOS gives zero f's about, but I have stress injuries in both hands from being a musician and a controller would be vastly easier on my hands.

Whichever one is "superior" is entirely a matter of opinion and not at all objective, because the one that's "superior" for you will be the one you're better at handling. I grew up in arcades and playing home consoles, so controller is the way to go for me. Of course, ESO's controller support has been lackluster from day one, so I'm very good at switching from controller UI to PC UI as needed, usually for banking/inventory/chatting reasons--people don't know I play primarily by controller if I don't tell them. Or if they see me jumping in place when I'm trying to interact with an NPC or lootable container because of shared buttons. *LOL*

I've played games with no controller support, and those games are the reason why I have chronic pain from my hands to my upper back. Controller is so much kinder to my body. I sigh in pain and irritation whenever I have to swap to PC UI. It was dark days for me in ESO before official gamepad support was added, subpar as it still is.

I cannot tell you which one is unequivocally better. only which one I personaly prefer. and that is due to me starting to play video games with pc and not getting into consoles until almost a decade later and even then, only to some degree. most of my gaming has been on pc for decades so keyboard and mouse feels more natural.

Controller. I'm mainly a console player (I have accounts on both PC and PS5) and am very inept with a keyboard. I can't type or do anything without looking at the keyboard. I'm also playing on a laptop which, at least in my mind, makes using KB/M even harder.

This. I sometimes marvel at the accuracy with which some people are able to target me when there is a lot of movement or when it's a brawl or when there are adds in IC. If you've ever played Minesweeper, you'll know that a real mouse beats laptop trackpads and pointing sticks by a large margin for speed and accuracy. I have not compared mice to controllers, but suspect it's the same.
Now if comfort is your goal, a controller is compelling. Much harder to use a keyboard + Mouse with your feet up in your favorite recliner.
Well, I actually use a TEX Shinobi:

    49718966438_3992a52ec6_k_600x400.jpg?v=1592296598

which is a mechanical keyboard with n-key rollover, based on Thinkpad laptop keyboards, specifically this one:

    48074-742x501.jpg

My hands are in a fixed position with my left middle finger on the E key and the right middle finger on the pointing stick. My key assignments are non-standard. While I leave my middle fingers in their "home" position, my other fingers reach around. I have access to almost 30 keys while my hands are staying in a fixed position and the keyboard on my lap. This is probably insane for anyone without a lifetime of Thinkpad trackpoint use. Unfortunately the trackpoint isn't as precise as a real mouse either. I wouldn't recommend my setup to anyone who is not already into this, but it is an example of exactly what you said. I use this setup on my favorite recliner with the TV in my living room.

Oh yah. On laptops I've always disabled the trackpad. Useless garbage. Of course, I don't actually play games on a laptop. And really.... I don't find it appealing to play games sitting on the couch (not comfortable for me at all) on a tv. Not to mention, I don't have a viable laptop anyway - it's win7, and not "internet safe" at all - so no, it isn't ever allowed to connect these days.

Not to mention that If I was actually wanting to play on the tv.... husband would see a divorce attorney. I'm perfectly happy playing a windowed game on my desktop. I have vertigo issues, and - well, you really don't want to know what happens when the game causes my vertigo to.... erupt.
