After going on 7 years without a single new weapon option added, it is long overdue. In a game where literally the entire build process revolves around weapons, having every class have only such a limited number to choose from after all this time really diminishes the work they are trying to do with CP and balancing.

So many build options come down to the same old boring cookie cutter weapon skills. Arrow barrage and blade cloak. Wall of elements. Blah.

What about something creative that actually adds to class fantasy? They could have 1h+rune or wands, spears or bo staff...

But my ultimate favorite, LUTE!

It would be SO much better than an entire Bard class, to have a weapon that let you spec into any of the major buffs your class is missing, while also having all sorts of AOE damage/buff/debuffing options. Plus with morphs a tone of ways you could tailor it to stamina/magicka and class mechanics.

I hope ZOS will consider this and adding more character slots (18 is just not enough in an MMORPG).

    For the character slots, they have said they won’t add any more until they get new servers. That’s happening later this year, so we may hear about new slots after that.

    Oh yes I absolutely agree!

    I'm surprised we don't have a bo-staff or spear style weapon class in the game. It feels almost expected to have spears in anything that draws from Roman influence like the Imperials tend to, but a bo staff styled weapon would be awesome. There are so SO many styles of spears and polearms out there in the world, ideas are plenty.

    I think what else would be super cool would be some sort of bare handed skill that embraces weapons such as brass/metal knuckles or gauntlets made for throwing hands. It can be argued to not be a new weapon class, but it would be a fun one.

    A one-handed sword line that doesn't require use of a shield would be super awesome in general, maybe it needs to be specialized somehow to work? Maybe the rune/magic thing could work as well, too, but in general it would be great to use a sword on it's own that isn't a 2H weapon.

    Instruments could work if set up right, but I wonder if they would fall under another magic style over a weapon class?

    so farming buying all the styles for the weapon? no thanks! Slots would be a nice idea, but lately game is a bit laggy and under stress i dont see the reason to add more pressure to the servers!

    I completely understand the desire for new weapons (I've been requesting 1h+rune/spell for years now), and I completely understand the desire for a bard class (I love support classes in games). But lutes as weapons..? That's a bit silly. Weapons and classes are separate in this game. A bard would no doubt play a lute if you wanted them to, but that same bard would have to have a screw loose somewhere to consider using it as a weapon...

    I do think music in battle makes a lot of sense. Both for inspiring allies and intimidating enemies. Ancient warfare made extensive use of instruments for both of those goals, because warfare was more of a morale game than a numbers game. But if those instrument players ever had to defend themselves in combat, I guarantee they'd just draw a sword.

    -a bard - hm, I want a didgeridoo then, it can be used as a 2h-blunt weapon as well - and while we are at it, what about a boomerang - 1h weapon + boomerang as new weapon skill line - melee and range combined in one skill line. Or make it throwing knives for those, for whom boomerang is too fancy.

    We had unarmed as well in TES III - and unarmored, iirc.

    Good news! The servers are being replaced this year. ZOS has said they are not expecting a performance increase as a result.

    Time will tell if this is a case of underpromising and overdelivering or of promising exactly what we’ll get.

    They should add in musical off-hands so that there is something to craft other than shields on the non-weapon side of woodworking. Spears and Banners would be another cool option. Whips and fists would be great. Some more physical ranged weapons and maybe another class of ranged spell weapon. Soooo many ideas.

    Most likely the only new weapons that would be added are 1h and rune or new staves. Anything else would require that they make a new mesh for every single motif in game and somehow match the style of the older ones. Something that's not going to happen.

    They could do unarmed, but that doesn't seem very likely.

    This is why I can only see us getting either 1h + spell or unarmed weapon skill line. The latter requires no new motif and the fprmer can just use those already in game. The ship have ling since sailed on other new weapons because there's no way ZOS will allocate the resources needed to make that many new motifs. Not to mention all the achievement hunters who would now lose stuff like Master Crafter because all their styles were incomplete, they'd be pissing a big part of the player base off if they did that.

    If you try guild wars 2, you may feel amazing the various weapon choices provide by the game.

    There are two possibilities when implementing a new weapon.
    1) This weapon has an appearance. ZOS will need to create about 100 different styles for this weapon. A lot of work without any return.
    2) This weapon has no appearance. ZOS will not be able to sell weapon packs with this new (likely BiS and popular) weapon.
    It is a lose-lose situation for ZOS. Not implementing the weapon is the only way they win.

    If we get a weapon, it needs to be Magicka-based. Stamina has more variety already.

    I suggest the Spelltome / Focus! The main thing would be that you cast spells with your hands!!! (Come on, hand-spellcasting is amazing and you know it, and it's silly to switch to staff to light attack, then cast a class skill with our hand, then switch to staff to lightattack, etc). :smiley: Also, this weapon would increase the damage of Elemental Glyphs applied to it (for thematic fun).

    • Light Attack: would use the Force Pulse visuals, you'd shoot an elemental blast from your hand. Enchantments on the focus affect the damage and visuals of the LA (Fire damage Glyph will make it a fireblast, etc).
    • Heavy Attack: would use the Templar execute visuals, channeled beam casting but with two hands

    • Combust: single target spammable, you make your target erupt with Magicka dealing damage to them, and splashing minor damage to enemies around it too.
    • Arcane Echoes: ground target AoE damage over time, with a different morph that regens resources for you instead
    • Incantation: You raise both hands and cast a cone of magic. AoE spammable, but channelled like Jabs.
    • Magicka Overload: applies a single target Magicka DoT to an enemy (up to 3 targets at the same time). Every 3rd cast of the ability instantly overloads your Magicka DoTs, causing it (or all up to 3 of them) to deal all their remaining damage instantly.
    • Bounty of Magnus: Buff, gives Major and Minor Sorcery, and Minor Expedition
    • Spellwave: Ult, release a wide wave of magic that travels froward, dealing minor damage while leaving a powerful DoT on every target for major damage and applying a random status effect (burning, concussed, chilled)

    Edit: Also, this would solve the 'weapon skin' problem, so ZOS wouldn't have to create a 'Focus' skin in every crafting style. It's not an actual weapon, it's the ability to cast spells by hand with no visible weapon equipped. The item itself could be equipped on your char of course, and the type of Elemental glyph would determine what colour your LA and HA had (kinda like how you had 3 types of staves). All other spells would have their own colour for their animations ofc.

    My main ESO weapon is the witty rejoinder. Very satisfying.

    Elder Scrolls Online is the only mainline Elder Scrolls game that I can think of that does not have weaponless combat, either hand-to-hand or direct spell casting.

    Someone, early on, apparently decided to just make spells ubiquitous in the game. Everyone is a spell caster. To me, this crosses out that whole "spell system" that they touted a few years back, along with runes, books, tomes, and other spell focus items. We already have that sort of thing, so anything along those lines just doesn't fit into the game.

    The only "weapon" that I would really be interested in is a full weaponless hand-to-hand skill line.

    Maybe a combined weapon that uses either normal projectiles or magical projectiles. A slingshot, for example.

    What? Bard class? False universe. TES bards are storytellers and singers, nothing more, nothing less.

    While I'm as opposed to a Bard class as anyone, this is just totally wrong. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion all had playable Bard classes. That said, in all of those games, the Bard was also more of a hybrid warrior-mage-thief, and not a musician.

    Technically tonal magic exists, but it's supposed to be forgotten and mystical knowledge, so shouldn't be used for a commonly accessible skill line.

    Why would they need to create any? The motifs already exist.
    The styles would merely need to be adopted to 1 (one) new base model.

    They don't even have to create new style pages (tho they could, if they wanted). Just modify already existing ones.

    If they were ever to bring out a Bard class, I want a title adding that is "Slayer of Bards" so I can have it on all my characters as most campaigns have taught me that Bards are a pain in the *** and need to die lol

    New and old players are already drawn in by a Chapter. How do you propose to sell new weapons in addition to it?
    Really, if the weapon has no unique style from the motif, then all those Arms Packs for dungeons will be not for the new weapon users, all those event Arms Packs will be not for the new weapon users.

    Unfortunately, a game is played by human beings and humans beings tend to be idiots whenever someone isn't seeing.

    Imagine the mess capital cities would be for those who play with sound on. Imagine a cocky player stopping doing their role during a pug dungeon because another player is inexperienced or is doing something in a less effective way (got one of those jerks in Castle Thorn yesterday, the "DPS" simply stopped attacking during trash packs to watch the others)

    How about a big pair of scissors? Seriously though one handed staves would be nice. Then we can to dual wield staves or wand and board for magic tanks
