Rapid Manoeuvre

Is Rapid Manoeuvre viable now? It has a time limit of only 8 seconds in both morths and the speed increase seems only negligible. Seems not worth it in covering large distances.

The passive 30% boost for mounted with Continuous Attack is great, but Rapid Maneuver on foot, not so much now.

They removed the horse part (Major Gallop) and put it in Continuous Attack as a passive every time you mount.

The movement speed on foot remains unchanged.

I would probably still get Retreating Maneuvre for trials, though.

Console playere here. Continuous Attack is a PVP PASSIVE.
So Rapid Manoeuvre now SUCKS EVEN MORE IN PVE?

This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for Psijic leveling...
This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for changing Mundus stones...
This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for collecting survey writs...

Why do we need to spend even more time in a BORING riding simulator instead of real gameplay?

Major Gallop applies everywhere, at all times. (once unlocked, obviously)

Thank you. I was feeling very irked about how the mount speed felt and hadn't notice this change. If it wasn't for your comment I would have missed it completely, as I don't pvp so I don't check the skills very much at all.

No, that part of the passive works everywhere. It was the first thing I tested once this patch hit the PTS.

Believe me, this was important to me.

So just make sure you put one skill point in Continuous Attack (unlocked at Assault 3) and you are good to zoom around every time you get on your horse. Anywhere in Tamriel*.

Depends a lot on what you're doing. I prefer race against time in PvP for a multitude of reasons, including that it's a mag skill compared to the stam in Rapids. I'm still gonna use Rapids for farming and sneaking once in a while since that skill haven't really changed for that purpose.

Still pissed about the nerf last year when the duration was shortened from 30 secs for major expedition, still think that version was vastly superior.

Sigh... maybe actually read the patch notes first?

Here's the relevant part that makes your entire post irrelevant:

Continuous Attacks: This passive now always grants Major Gallop when purchased at rank 1 or 2. Note that you do not need to be in Cyrodiil to gain this effect! This means once you purchase the passive at any rank, you will always have Major Gallop active on you regardless of where you are.

This is pretty great and yes, rapids is now a dead skill outside of niche support roles. Useless for a solo player.

On a maxed horse, you are at the mounted speed cap (while mounted) by unlocking the passive.

On foot, there are a million ways to the non-mounted speed cap. Any toon with a ROTH and Steed Mundus will be at the cap on foot when out of combat and sprinting, which covers most of your harvesting/farming needs. If you are in combat, well kill the darn thing and move on.

Best thing I ever did was to Dupe 18 Rings of the Hunt and put all my toons in steed, unless they specifically are doing PVP or group content. In overland or questing, you don't need thief or shadow, it's over kill.

Put a point into Continuous Attack under the PvP skill line Assault. It should unlock after doing the tutorial in Cyro.

Where can one look up the cap speed?

My advanced stat page says 165% movement speed and when I equip Wild Hunt that stat doesn't update but I run faster. 165+45=210%. But is the cap 200%?

Oh it's just Marvelous isn't it?

    - No more having to aggressively slot and unslot rapids to keep up with a group
    - No more terrible terrible choices I have to make as to what to throw out in order to 'fit in' maneuvers
    - Rapids was never really used anyways aside for boosting mount speed, especially due to its unusually high stamina cost

I'm so happy. It's early afternoon where I live and I've already had several alcoholic beverages in honor of this change.

This fixes so very many issues and I thank you kindly ZOS, well played. Here's to further future changes that improve quality of life as much as this one has. :D

    Yes it's capped at 200%

There's a mini-map mod out there that will show movement speed % at the bottom of it's little window. Be careful what zone you test this in though as some zones won't calculate the speed correctly. That said, Auridon works great for this purposes due to the long flat roads and the fact its a starter zone.

    @Varangian_af_Scaniae

It's buried in the forums for the most part. I will give you what I know. I am very confident in what I am saying about non mounted speed cap, but not 100% I have it right when mounted.

Max speed on foot is 200% of standard movement speed, everything stack additively. Simply walking is 100% with no modifiers. Sprint is 40%. So for example, if a character has a gold (stock) Ring of the hunt, steed mundus and they sprint, there speed will be: 45% (out of combat ROTH bonus), 7% Swift Trait (ROTH comes standard with swift), 40% Sprint, 10% Steed = 102% (multipliers) +100% (base)=202, so you are capped out of combat by sprinting. The extra 2 % is wasted. You will also notice that if you are in combat, you can get back to the same spot by adding in major expedition (30%) which equals the in vs out of combat speed bonuses from ROTH (15 and 45, net 30).

Other obvious ones to consider are major expedition 30%, Minor expedition 10%, medium armor passives, certain set bonuses, Divines Trait (if running Steed), Orc Racial Passives, and the mess that is the new CP system.

On a horse it is much simpler. This is my understanding, but someone correct me if I am wrong. A maxed horse (60%) while sprinting (40%), basically puts you at the non-mounted speed cap of 200%. If you add major galop (30%), you are at the mounted speed cap of 230. I also believe that the only buff that can bring you over 200% on a horse is major gallop. In other words, your mounted speed cap without major gallop is also 200%.

I am not 100% sure that the 60pts into training directly equals the same 60% additive bonus we are talking about, but it seems to in my testing. I am also unclear if this 60pts can be made up for in other ways, if you dont have a maxed horse. All my horses are maxed, so I cant test. For example, can I get to the mounted speed cap with Sprint, Major Gallop, Major expedition, and only 30pts into horse speed? I am not sure. If so, that might leave a small use for rapids, as its a source of major expedition that can be cast while mounted. It seems you could also max a horse with Cowards Gear if you didnt have all 60 pts spent, but again, not 100% sure if that is how it works.

    I for one LOVE it.

It may take me some getting used to (always hitting Rapids when I mount), but I no longer need to dedicate a whole skill slot to it when roaming the world. It's automatic now!

Even better, the requirement is Assault 3. This is reachable, even on my mules, if I make sure to grab the daily rewards on them whenever that is AP.

I fought like hell about the Stonethorn changes to Rapids. I wanted a compromise, something that would allow both Vigor and Rapids to be easily accessible.

    Instead they implemented something BETTER.

I read the description of Continuous Attack wrong or I actually missed the important stuff completely, ADD is a [snip]. I thought it gave 15% per stage/level, so at the time I wrote the comment I thought I had to level all toons to Assault 9.

I noticed that a while ago, some of my toons had high movement speed back then and at a point your pet went from the walk to run/sprint animation but it switched before my toon started sprinting so you had the pet sprinting a 20% speed. Looked like slow motion while I walked really fast.
