On a horse it is much simpler. This is my understanding, but someone correct me if I am wrong. A maxed horse (60%) while sprinting (40%), basically puts you at the non-mounted speed cap of 200%. If you add major galop (30%), you are at the mounted speed cap of 230. I also believe that the only buff that can bring you over 200% on a horse is major gallop. In other words, your mounted speed cap without major gallop is also 200%.

Windrunning CP used to add 2% to max speed. The new CP system allows you to add 10% mounted speed.
That’s something else I am not sure about. Does that passive do anything if you are on a maxed mount, sprinting, and have Gallup? Might need to do some testing.

We also have a passive in the new CP that boosts non combat movement speed but up to 20%. Makes it even easier to see the speed cap on foot. That combined with the new continuous attack perk, and we all got a lot faster, or rather it’s easier to be fast. A mule can now drop steed and a swift trait to be at cap with ROTH and sprint. I don’t believe the caps changed in any way with the new patch.

Are we sure that stacks with major gallop to make max mounted speed 240%? I actually was never sure if windrunning stacked. All my characters had it, but the difference between 230 and 232% horse speed is hard to detect.

I have never been able to get concrete info on the mounted speed cap.

I think Fyrakin’s minimap was supposed to show speed, or was that only on foot? I’ll try to test it.

I’ve been trying to find info on a mounted speed cap as well, and all I can seem to find is that it may be a natural limitation because of the limited sources of stacking mount speed (sprint, training, gallop, formerly windrunning, and now gifted rider).

The cap on movement speed (i.e. footspeed) exists in part to limit player speed in combat. At a certain point people were essentially untargettable in PvP. Hence the nerf to swift from 10% to 6%, and the massive difference in RotWH in combat versus out of it.

Mounted speed isn’t as problematic, since you can’t fight from horseback.

FYI, been doing some experimenting with mounted speed cap. It looks like both major gallop and the 10% CP mounted speed that you can slot are additive above the 200% speed cap, so you can definitely cruise at 240% on a mount (this was pointed out to me and confirmed by another forum member).

You also seem to get a noticeable speed burst for a short period of time when you use sprint. I want to do some more testing, but with CP and no stamina cost out of combat, I am guessing you can get an average cruising speed well north of 240%. The highest I have seen on the speedometer while mounted ("ravspeed" is the addon) is 300%, but it really cant be sustained as far as I can tell.

TLDR, the mounted speed cap is definitely north of 230% (looks like it might actually be 300%). Still looks like nothing you do will get you above 200% on foot.

I noticed the short burst from sprinting a while back, but since it really doesn’t stay for long I figured it was meant as a catch-up mechanic if your mount ran out of stam and you had to wait a few seconds for it to fill again.

I know exactly what you mean. I was never really sure if you were actually going faster, or it just appeared that way with the animation. Usually I do it when my mount gets tripped up on terrain and slows. But if I am just riding keep to keep, I typically just hold sprint unless my horse is slowed or i needed to recast rapids (no longer an issue).

It seems there may be an optimal frequency at which you want to tap the sprint button while mounted if your goal is a higher sustained speed over a great distance. Because you can use CP to remove stamina cost out of combat (which you typically are on a horse) it's definitely worth investigating. Anything to cut down on the ride from Sej to Drake would be appreciated. Haha

Posted in another thread, but thought I would respond here as well with a short summary of my testing.

Anything that says movement or sprint speed applies to a character that is on foot. These DO NOT apply to your mount.
Examples include: Major/minor expedition, Ring of the hunt, Swift trait, Steed Mundus, medium armor passives, Racial passives, Hasty CP, etc. Again, these have zero effect on your mount speed. They all stack additively to a cap of 200% movement speed while on foot. Sprint on foot is 40%. It is VERY easy to reach the cap out of combat at this point, even without sprint.

There are only 4 things that effect Mount Speed as far as I can tell. 1. Horse Training, 2. Sprinting (30% on a mount), Major Gallop 30% mount speed (continuous attack passive), Gifter Rider 10% mount speed Slottable CP.

Base horse speed is 115%. Sprint is 30% while mounted (not 40%) that is additive, as are the 60pts of speed training. So a fully trained horse will walk at 175% (115+60) and sprint at 205% (115+60+30).

The other two bonuses are multiplicative. If you have both Major Gallop and gifted rider, that is a 40% buff to mounted speed. 205*1.4 = 287% movement speed with all buffs. If you just have major gallop, it is 1.3* 205 = 266.5.

Max sustained mount speed seems to be 287%. Every 4-5 seconds you can re-tap sprint and get a short burst to 300%. So it does seem there is a cadence that will get you slightly above 287 on average, but you will use stamina if you don't have the passive or are in combat. It also seems that 300% is the hard cap on movement speed.

There is a similar phenomenon on foot. You get a short burst of speed when you press sprint. If you build to be at the speed cap without sprinting, and press sprint, you will actually go above 200% for a short time. Very hard to tell where this caps with the addon I was using. Best guess is somewhere in the 220% range.

We are faster than we used to be while mounted, and its far easier to reach the speed cap on foot, especially out of combat, with the new CP.

I’m still confused. If I have maxed my mount and I put a point into continuous attack instead of rapids then I don’t have to slot anything in my skills. But I still have to use 2 cp slotted skill spots for mount speed to stay fast? Does that mean I can only choose 2 passives for my farmers aside from mount speeds?

It's a group based PVP ability meant to storm keeps with your allies, not a PVE ability meant to make you faster. And as someone pointed out the passive has major gallop now so you zoom around everywhere at max speed.

If you’ve maxed your mount speed with horse training and you’ve taken a point in Continuous Attack to replace Rapids, you’re at the old maximum from before Update 29.

The update brought an additional speed bonus for mounts in the form of a new CP node: Gifted Rider. That doesn’t help you “stay fast” — it lets you move even faster than before when you stack it with the things above.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn’t a second CP star to boost mounted movement. Steed’s Blessing makes you faster on foot, not while mounted.

I slotted charging maneuver on my crafting alts so I can move faster between craft stations when doing the dailies. Other than that it is kind of obsolete. It might be useful if you were gathering matts as it takes longer to mount and unmount then just run between nodes.

If you are trying to max your mount speed, rapids is useless (as is cowards gear). They can have some use while on foot, but major/minor expedition don't affect mount speed. Major expedition also does not stack with itself, so on foot, cowards gear and rapids is likely redundant (retreating maneuvers also gives minor expedition, major and minor buffs do stack).

If you want to move as fast as possible on your mount, you need 4 things: 60pts into training, hold sprint, Major Gallop (1 skill point into continuous attack), Gifted Rider (1 Green Slot, 100 CPs spent to max). You will cruise at 287%.

There are so many ways to get to the speed cap now in this context that its still not worth it.

For crafters: Ring of the hunt (Don't even need the swift trait), Steed blessing (CP slottable), and sprint will more than cap you out of combat (100+45+20+40=205).

Rapids is not even worth the skill point on a writ Mule. I put a Ring of the Hunt on all 18 of my characters, LOL.

Yes. 200% has been the non mounted speed cap for as far as I can remember, but it is not stated anywhere in game. Concrete speed info is very hard to obtain. Once I figured out how speed worked, I realized I was way over the cap as well.

If you are using Cowards gear (major expedition) and rapid Maneuvers (major Expedition) that is a redundant buff regardless of the cap. Major Buffs do not stack with themselves.

I made a more thorough speed post on a separate thread if anyone wants to have a look. I did a bunch of testing over the weekend and this explains everything that I could reasonably determine through observation and an addon that shows speed.

Agreed. Although, it is a pretty questionable decision to grab a scroll if you arent build to be at the speed cap by yourself. Admittedly, with no proc gear, that's a lot harder to do for the next 6 months in Cyro, so rapids is likely useful in that scenario.

I believe it actually gives both Major Gallop and Major Expedition, but to be honest, I just cant envision a scenario where I would run it. Major Buffs do not stack with themselves.

I can get Major Gallop from Continuous attack and 1 skill point. All it takes is a 5 minute Cyro Tutorial to unlock it.

Major Expedition can be useful, but it doesnt affect mounted speed. There are lots of sources of major expedition at this point. Very hard for me to sacrifice a 5 piece gear slot for it. Especially considering all of my characters have a Ring of the Hunt. ROTH+Steeds Blessing+ Sprint = Speed cap out of combat, which is sufficient for all my Writ Monkeys and Farmers. In PVP, I usually get a major expedition from a skill slot.

If I was going to get Major Expedition from a 5 piece, i would probably opt for Cowards gear so I also get major protection (they work a little differently as cowards gear requires you to sprint), but truthfully, I dont see much use for either at this point. As a general rule, a 5 piece set bonus is worth more to me than 1 skill slot. If i can slot a skill for it, I am not going to waste a 5 piece on it.

So Rapid Manoeuvre now SUCKS EVEN MORE IN PVE?

This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for Psijic leveling...
This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for changing Mundus stones...
This is so NOT GREAT if you need to cover large distances for collecting survey writs...

Why do we need to spend even more time in a BORING riding simulator instead of real gameplay?

It's a group based PVP ability meant to storm keeps with your allies, not a PVE ability meant to make you faster. And as someone pointed out the passive has major gallop now so you zoom around everywhere at max speed.

Not to mention Continuous Attack should unlock with the tutorial, since it requires so little AP, so no actual PvP is required to get it.

Or, with the AP from daily login rewards, no PvP at all.

I was going to add this, but I forget whether it's possible to *open* the Assault/Support skill lines just by taking those login rewards. I've only ever opened them by the tutorial in Cyrodiil, and now I can't test it on any alts, since they've all got the lines already.

I believe the AP from daily rewards is just currency, and does not help to advance your rank or leaderboard status.

I seem to remember earning the next rank on one of my alts by taking the daily login bonus. I'll check the next time we get them, though.

The point about the leaderboards has me interested now. It shouldn't work if you take the login rewards outside of the home campaign, but I wonder if you take them when in your home campaign. I've never paid attention to that. I wouldn't think it would work, but it wouldn't be very exploitable with how few AP we get per month.

I think that is half right. It doesn't help leaderboards, but it does advance AR rank and skill lines.

Im' ok with passively increasing mount speed but please, adjust the animations then, it's start to look totally weird ...

Your mount is running 213 mph ( or kph... whichever)

    It Should look weird

    IMHO

    Thank you for the info!

I noticed the short burst from sprinting a while back, but since it really doesn’t stay for long I figured it was meant as a catch-up mechanic if your mount ran out of stam and you had to wait a few seconds for it to fill again.

    @virtus753

Just wanted to add that you can apparently exceed 300%, per Fyrakin's minimap. I reached over 313% while sprinting and jumping. It was very brief, but I can exceed 300% repeatedly during particular combinations of sprinting, jumping, and falling.

I think there isn't actually a hard cap, since it's so rare to get to those speeds.

This is correct. I just checked with today's login reward.

My rank went from 63,034 to next rank to 65,034 by taking the 2k AP.

My end of campaign reward tier is still at zero, since I haven't actually done anything in the campaign besides take the daily reward while being in it.
