Is in-game voice chat coming?

Will ZOS implement voice chat in-game for groups?

This question is not about 3rd party solutions; i.e., external software. I simply want to know, from ZOS, when voice chat will be in game.

I hope so, I despise vent, team speak, ect. Build something internally please. AFTER everything else is handle and stable ;)

While I consider it on the secondary list, I would like this to be added to the game as well.

Nah, redundant. TS, Vent, Mumble, etc. is the answer. Or wait for the console version, surely the PS4 version will support VOIP?

Being forced to load 3rd party software to achieve the necesary function is not redundancy - it clearly indicates a design flaw in the primary software.

So, again ZOS, what is the target ETA for in game voice chat?

The problem with in-game voice chat is, it only works while the game is running. Being able to run separately from the game is a big advantage.

When Blizzard did this, it turned out to be a huge waste of time because noone ever used it.

The whole point of in game voice chat is to communicate with a group, even a pug. 3rd party software cannot fill that function.

Unless the purpose for not having it is to discourage and impair the grouping experience? In which case, they can claim success.

Before I will invite anyone into my teamspeak, I want to know them first and have talked to the person before.
I find it hard to meet players in eso. In game voice chat makes it easier. Some of my best friends I have met in mmo's , so I hope in game chat is added. Makes everything easier.

This I'd love to see - but there servers can't handle the load now, people suffering massive lags and crashes etc, slap a VoIP on top of that as things are at the moment and it'll only exacerbate the issue surely?

    This man speaks the truth!

Really, the ingame voice-chat blizzard implemented was a really big waste of time, Vent and TS had already established themselves as the de facto voice communication for gaming, and you HAD to be in-game in order to use the blizzard voice-chat.

Believe me in-game voice chat is not neccecary (also waste of resources), and if it's added hardly anyone will use it anyway.

Blizzards was also horrible though, nothing but static most of the time... Even TS was better.

    ^ This

Plus there are people out there who DON'T want to use voice chat for perfectly acceptable reasons. Putting the feature in game will force players to have to use it or they'll be kicked from all group content.

Even if it did make it easier somehow to pug, Id refuse to use it.

Im not getting in voice with people I just met. The only thing in game voice chat does is encourage pugs to require its use because theyre too damn lazy to type.

Besides, I dont want to hear you breathing, eating, yelling at your kids or dog or squeaky prepubescent voice.

At least I can control who uses my TS server.

I am in both camps on this. The best in game chat system was EQ1, very easily customised and worked very well.

In groups voice chat with friends is great and teamspeak or what ever u use is fine. For PUGs you would need an ingame system but not sure if enough players would use it to make it worth while implementing.

So far I have found that grouping up is more chaotic than other MMos have been, and the chat system is clumsy and slow and a voice system would be much better.

It would be nice to be there though so I would learn towards a yes than no. Just my opinion.
  • Solarstorm
Devs, please get the voice chat going already. Its 2014 , I shouldn't have to dl 3rd party software. I want to be able to communicate in pug allowing success in similar goals. Typing is for the forums. Learn from other successful games already. Having no chat sucks; I thought that was just going to be a beta thing and corrected by release.

Btw, Sakiri you are funny, lol. Won't talk to strangers haha.
"I dont want to hear you breathing, eating, yelling at your kids or dog or squeaky prepubescent voice", its called using 'Push To Talk", something that most gamers understand as a rule; live mics get iggied fast (which means you DO retain control of who you hear). And, if you are 'prepubescent', I don't want to game with you, so go ahead, speak up.

I'd just turn it off. It was far too annoying in other MMOS I've played that had it.

nope, not needed IMO. Don't need the drain on resources, and no point in having it around since most wont use it. If you wanna use it for your PvP I can understand, since you really have no need to voice with a dungeon group. But for the PvP grouping, best to go with the 3d party.

I am all for in game voice chat. But unless you are in a group, you should only be able to hear people that are NEAR you, like the say option, no more than a 5 meter radius or something like that. If you are in a group, obviously it should be game wide.

I dont want to hear people near me either.

Most in game chat has group, raid, guild channels and custom channels. No general channels.

Then turn it off? But I think that group, raid, guild channels, and custom channels is also a good idea, I just would like a general one as well, you could simply turn it off. Then I can finally tell if that female elf is actually female, lol, or not.

Which is exactly why many people will not want voice chat ingame at all. Speaking from the experience of being in guilds with multiple females (last WoW guild was around 50%), the last thing most of them wanted was to deal with the *** who were more worried about what kind of plumbing they had rather than if they could play their class/character well.

    Also this.

Im female. My main is a male Nord. I prefer not announcing it.

And when games have it built in it becomes mandatory to pug.

No. If you cant fuctiin in a mmo without voice, thats your problem.

    I love Turbine. Seriously.

Only MMO I've ever played for years instead of months was LotRO, which had in-game voice. I'm just saying.

I have never liked 3rd party software for this function, and I personally type way too darn slowly to be useful in any challenging dungeon (haven't seen those so far in TESO, though :p ).

I completely understand folks who DO NOT EVER want to use voice. I would probably never willingly use voice in WoW, for example, due to the playerbase of the game. LoTRO was different (as far as I was aware at least), and I was completely comfortable using voice in that game.

If I ever DO come across a challenging raid in the game, and I'm sufficiently happy with ZOS's moderating of the playerbase, I'll want voice, and I'll want it as an in-game function.

I vote with an emphatic.. yes.

.. and it can't come quick enough. I have other things to do with my hands, like control my character. I don't want to stop and have to go through the process of typing out anything as the new player I want to interact with is... gone.

No 3rd party software cannot accommodate that, no matter how techy it has evolved.
