What's the biggest challenge you faced as an ESO noob?

Trying to solo Maw of Lorkhaj when it came out, not realizing it was for 12 people

I had already been playing for almost a year or whatever, I should've known better, but it was great practice

Vet Maelstrom Arena on my then 250CP stamina DK. That was a whole new level of work i had to put in to get through stage 5, then 7 and finally last boss. Took me around 1500 deaths in total. One of the most challaning, frustrating gaming experiences of my entire life - that tought me so much about game mechanics in general, aswell as building a character for success.

I remember prior to beta, me and several friends would devour every scrap of information, theory craft races and class builds, plan to form an effective 5 man synergy team. We'd be up all night talking about it.

Then beta came and it was like... this? This is awesome (enough)! Of course I knew I was going to play on the PS not PC. But at the time it was not worth a subscription model they were selling and would scrap at console release, which I knew in my gut was gonna happen.

So waiting that first year was the greatest challenge. In the end only three friends picked it up and only two still play. But I still visit tamriel everyday and look forward to the next big change.

Me? Getting over my MMO-phobia to actually group up with people.

I've always been a solo player, and never even touched an MMO before because of it. The fact that you can play ESO solo is what finally got me to come in the first place - that and the fact that I've got massive Elder Scrolls withdrawal since TES6 isn't coming for another few years.

I finally managed to get over myself and join a nice helpful guild.

Once I ended up with a lot more time at home because of the pandemic, I started running group content with them and learned how to play my role, and I ended up having a lot more fun with everything. It was hard to break out of my shell and start being social, but it really made this a lot better of an experience than I'd ever thought it would be.

Same here! This was the first multiplayer game for me and every time i saw another player i was like "eeeep, dont come close, eeeep eeep i run away now" i enjoyed cadwells silver and gold so much, because back in the day you did not see players of the other alliances. So when i finished the ep questline and started dc or ad, i forget which came first, it was brilliant. The whole world seemed so empty, for me to explore on my own <3

It took me years to play any group content and after i did, i loved it! It felt silly to have been so scared of other players. Then a bit later i went to cyro and absolutely fell in love with pvp and made good friends. I actually started to talk to peeps on mic. I used to be so insecure and shy and this game has helped me so much to be more social n all and not feel uncomfortable in group play. In pvp especially it's so easy to make play mates for life :)

Yep. No idea about mmos, and playing on console to make extra difficult.

Played about 1 1/2 years before joined a guild about start of 2017. Now am an officer, and totally over any hang ups over playing with others - it’s what I mostly do now! Though still like to occasionally go off & do a bit of solo questing.

(But for the most amusing (& useful) thing I learned was from my son, near the end of completing Auridon, when, after watching me wipe repeatedly on a boss, he pointed out in a slightly exasperated tone that the red circle on the ground under/around the boss was not a good thing and I might last a bit longer if I stayed out of it.....😂)

I started playing in 2015 with a nord dragon knight. I was a top tier noob in that I knew absolutely nothing about anything. I didn't even know what a set was. I equipped whatever I picked up. Every fight was a struggle and I enjoyed that very much. The easiest fight was accidentally taking flight on a mouse. Whew, I won one.

But more on topic, the first big challenge that I remember takes place in Glenumbra and is the quest in which you enter the giant Wyrd Tree and fight. I died a lot but also learned from it and eventually won from the things I learned and the changes I had made.
Fan of playing magblade since 2015. (PC NA)
    Might be joking in comments.

Knowing which activities were too difficult for a new player. I only figured it out though trial and error.

The combat. All of it. I'm older, my reflexes aren't as good as they were even 10 years back, and twitchy combat is still pretty bad for me. Yes, after 2.5 years in the game, I can kill stuff - but it's still not easy, and it's definitely not fun.

Oh and btw - the Doshia fight that got nerfed? It's still way too hard for me.... takes me a couple of deaths nearly every time.

Same for me. Playing since 2016. I can kill things, and I even soloed a world boss, but...combat is really a difficult thing for me, and hell yes - not fun at all.
