Port Forwarding and Multiple PC's behind a Router

My wife and I have been getting the "An unknown error has occurred" message, where it kicks you out of the game and back to the login screen. Now of course they have changed the message slightly, but it still does not give an error number or any meaningful information about the error.

We finally got a response back from customer support, and their suggestion was to turn on Port Forwarding on the router for a couple of specific port ranges. Of course this was another canned response and made no reference to the fact that our support ticket indicated there were multiple PCs involved.

My impression of port forwarding is that the router would then forward all traffic for specific ports to one specific IP address on our network. And if it does that, then won't that prevent the other PC from connecting at all? Or can you forward the same ports to multiple PCs?

According to the RFC's you can't port forward to more then 1 IP

For example if you port forward port 80 to your PC, you can't also port forward that same portto your wifes PC..that won't work..Routers are Layer 3...they don't have the features of Layer 7 devices (enterprise level equipment)

You could try "port triggering" as it sometimes works in your situation. This is application specific though.

You can't forward the same port to multiple IP's...however UpNP sometimes works because the applications themselves often have "fall back ports" when their main port is in use...UpNP will allow the application (ESO in this case) to talk to your router and forward the appropriate ports for each PC, and close them when its done.

Just enable UpNP in your router and restart it and hopefully save yourself a lot of headaches.

"Here in his shrine, that they have forgotten. Here do we toil, that we might remember. By night we reclaim, what by day was stolen. Far from ourselves, he grows ever near to us. Our eyes once were blinded, now through him do we see. Our hands once were idle, now through them does he speak. And when the world shall listen, and when the world shall see, and when the world remembers, that world will cease to be. - Miraak

Shoot, my router already had UpNP turned on.

My router has a separate area called Port Triggering? Would that be of any help? Right now it is disabled.

simple to resolve aslong as it is no more then 2 pc's
go into the network settings of one of the pc's and assign it a static ip lets say 192.168.1.2 now go in the router and assign that address into the dmz which means all ports are open and directly forwarded by default
the 2nd pc use normal port forwarding
    issue resolved.

You aren't having a port forward issue so ignore the advice telling you to go setup a DMZ and crap. You're more likely to mess your internet up or something.
