Elden Hollow I: Clear a Path to the Final Ritual Site Bugged?

Hello,
I am soloing this dungeon. I killed all the bosses except for Chokethorn (can't kill him, keeps healing from the saplings).
But I can't to through the last gate for Clear a path to the final ritual - the thorn gate won't open.
Do I have to kill ChokeThorn?
