Does anyone use the Crown store alt-convenience options?

I tend to invest the subscription-bundled crowns into the Undaunted skill line for some of my alts. It was a pain in the ass to max it out on my first character because I refused to participate in daily random dungeon or the group finder.

How did you then? That's where I am with it - not doing a daily random that will most likely be a DLC dungeon I won't be able to handle - and nope, not doing group content at all because my ping is too high to bother others with! Even the FG and MG stuff was simple compared....

Bogrol has an Undaunted delve daily. Takes forever, but my first character maxed Undaunted without ever doing a dungeon. You do have to set foot in a dungeon to join Undaunted, but you don't have to do anything but enter.

I have unlocked skyshards on many alts, so that they can use 3-4 crafting stations for daily writs.

This generates a lot of gold material, what I don't use myself I sell for gold, then buy crownstore items like crates from crownsellers.
Like this I meanwhile have approx 1600 crown gems, enough to buy gem exclusive items I like without investing further real money.

I think it depends heavily on if you are the type of player that is willing to grind (in this case craft) a lot to get a benefit from such a concept.
People without so much time (as they have family for example) might be better off buying directly what they desire.

Ah. Somehow I didn't know after all this time about the delves (or if I did know at some point, I'd forgotten!) Thanks! Yeah, the "join" part was sort of funny..... I expected to die repeatedly....

I got all the Cyro skyshards on two separate toons (including the 4 gated ones), but they're usually the ones I buy on other alts. That and Craglorn's skyshards because I have no interest in doing them again.

The only one I've ever considered is for Cyrodiil Skyshards since I don't go there except during MYM for tickets. Of course this assumes I collect them all on my main at some point and the gates to the other alliance areas are open for me to get to the ones I haven't completed.

Actually, that would be the only one I'd consider. However, the possibility of getting them ONCE on each account on both PC megaservers is vanishingly small.... so *shrug*

To me those are some of the things that are actually worth spending crowns on. At least you get something useful, I mean what in the crown store is worth buying? Really nothing but if you have the crowns I would rather use them on something useful.

I support a drastic reduction in alt-boosting options. Obviously keep the requirement to have previously unlocked all skyshards, grinded skill lines, etc, but drop the Crown cost by half or more.

Nah, that's not going far enough. None of this should have been put in the cash shop at all, period, under any circumstances. Especially not in a game that isn't free-to-play trash. Though come to think of it, perhaps this game is free-to-play trash - the monetization certainly suggests it is. Ridiculously overpriced one-time use transactions with no upper spending limit? Sounds like a free-to-play trash game to me. And it has no business being attached to a game that's actually good like ESO. Hell, if they wanted to make money selling cheat codes or NewGame+ mode I'd been fine with that if it was a ONE TIME transaction/DLC add-on. But of course we couldn't have that because of course we couldn't. Not from this publisher anyway.

Honestly, MYM is probably the best time to get them, as you can bounce from campaign to campaign looking to see if the gates are open and there's way more likely to be scroll raiding happening.

If you are going for them and you've never done it before (or for other first timers), my suggestions are as follows:

    - check out the maps of where the skyshards are specifically online before you go in there and drop a marker
    - if you're not on a nightblade, craft some invisibility pots, because even when the gates are open there's still guards unless you follow a zerg through.
    - if you are on a nightblade, unlock shadowy cloak and make sure you have enough mag to keep it up
    - if you don't want to go the invisibility way, getting in as close as you can and hitting rapids (if you have them unlocked) or having any other speed boost is a bonus
    - have a spam heal if you can
    - once you get through the gate and out of aggro with the gate guards, crouch ASAP to get into stealth from them AND any players

You don't have to be of the Alliance who opened the gates either, they're open for EVERYONE.

I also recommend once you get through the gate heading left or right at a right angle the moment you get through the gate and especially once you can get into stealth safely, because that means any unfriendly players coming to the gate won't see you once you're crouched because you're effectly invisible unless they're close to you.

Take a breather to let the adrenaline settle, then go get your skyshard. Stay off roads, stay in the wilderness. People generally ride on the road or in a direct line between their home base and the gate so avoid that. You don't have to stay in stealth but you can if it makes you more comfortable.

Get the skyshard and let the good in.

Rinse and repeat three more times. ;)

Pledges for the dungeons that I could solo comfortably and Bolgrul's delve dailies. Took forever because both only grant 10 reputation points. And then there is the “This One’s On Me” achievement granting 30 rep.

Oh heck no. I love getting skyshards, lorebooks, wayshrines, antiquities etc. on my alts! It's why I have them....

Absolutely, and the thing is, on the way to collect the skyshards, I gain skill points to flesh out my alts' other skill lines. I have done it once on a non templar toon that needed undaunted orbs for a heal role early on. I don't really like inflicting a skillless healer on others, even if it is a lowbie. I don't think I'll do it again though.

No, not yet. The only possible circumstance I can see myself doing that is if I get very invested in an alt to the point where I need the Cyrodiil/IC skyshard, but as there are plenty of other skyshards to get, I don't see that happening any time soon. I'm only completionist on my main, so I only need to unlock things once. Nothing else in the game is so odious to me that I'd spend real money to skip it. I have a very limited entertainment budget and subscribing already eats most of that.

Agreed, during normal days those gate keeps are rarely pushed, I got all my "enemy territory" skyshards during this MYM.

Anyway, yeah, I don't buy upgrades. I don't mind taking things slow. I levelled through my alts (1-50) over the course of almost two years, they're mostly my writ crafters and rp characters.

Not so far. My crowns usually go on housing, sometimes outfits. Anything unnecessary diverts my funds away from my main interests so I don't do it. I'm sure some people who aren't into other things will like it though.

I have bought the Cyrodiil skyshards once to unclock the skyshard furnishing on my main character. There is no need for anything else, I simply collect skyshards while doing psijic quests and it is more than enough. I have only one weapon skill line on all my characters and just one class skill line on half of my characters, though.

The trick is not to do it on one character completely, the trick is to do it on three characters of different alliances to unlock the skyshards of their alliances. Then you combine them by crown store on any character you want.

The only one I'd consider is Mages Guild. Without an add-on to keep track on what you've found and haven't, it's a nightmare. Plus the online guides though helpful, sometimes aren't up to date and it's still difficult to track.

ESO Helper covers that and everything that's a map hunt item, and you can remove icons for ones you've discovered to reduce clutter

Why would I pay them to take the fun out of the game?

I play characters, not build load-outs, so going through the zones and leveling skill lines is part of that process.

I'm not proud of it, but yes...bought quite a few skill line upgrades.
It's an incredibly scummy business model though. Subjecting every new alt to a gruelling grind (probably 48hrs+) or charging you 9k crowns per alt.
Imo 500 crowns would be more appropriate for race changes and skill line upgrades. As it is, it feels like ZOS is really trying to milk the playerbase dry.

They are priced to make you play the content rather than buy the skill lines. I'm actually surprised the skyshards weren't twice what they are.

It's not very obvious, but the Cyrodiil skyshards are actually split into 3 achievements - One for each faction (and then there's the lonely skyshard on the mountain, which is on its own.

So you could complete Dominion Skyshard Hunter on an AD character and that achievement becomes available to your other characters.

@AlnilamE - I'm fairly dim sometimes - I never really looked at how the skyshard achievements are set up. Thanks for that - I'll have to take care of that on my next fisherfolk! After we get through with the rest of the stuff going on this month, I'll be ready to start fishing on people again - beginning with Cyro, because I found on the last batch of them that doing Cyro first is nice, because I get to heave a sigh of relief when it's done!

I think I've only bought things on level 50 characters. I had other uses for them, but knew that playing them wasn't fun enough to continue, but they needed a few more skill points. I can afford the cost and its more important for me to spend time playing characters I like. I'm on console so no easy " just go pick skyshards up" for me.
