Why no voice chat on eso PC

After coming from ps4 it seems really backward that there's no voice chat, honestly voice chat makes the game more than 2x more social, having to type to say push left or pull back in pvp or correcting somone making a mistake in PVE means you have to stop what you're doing to communicate, even thzn they have to take their focus off the game to read it I know there is discord but when playing with randoms it kinda sucks

It's the one thing consoles have over PCs providing a bit of solace from the lack of add-ons.

People will say that there are other programs on PC that do that, but don't be fooled. The experience is NOT the same.

It is the only thing I truly miss from consoles.

Discord is not even close to being the same thing, specially when you do PUG dungeons, trials or just want to laugh at the crazy people in Daggerfall voice chat.

The social experience is just very different on PC due to that (for the worse, in my opinion).

Not for me, only as optional. Definitely kills any immersion in the game in pve. For dungeons possibly but makes it that much easier for salty comments to go unmonitored.

I don't know much about consoles but don't they already have an underlying voice chat capability? If they do it would make sense that game producers climbed on that. Since it doesn't exist in PC's it doesn't make sense to spend the funds and instead redirect them to other parts of the game.

I will say I don't care for chat and have disabled it in my setting for Fallout 76. The only time I find it helpful is when running formalized groups and as was mentioned above there are plenty of PC applications for that situation.

Personally I'm glad the game doesn't have voice chat built in.

I'm often in a nosiy room when playing, to the point where I usually have the sound off so I'm not adding to it, so my chances of hearing what's being said even with headphones on are pretty low. I also can't really talk without having to constantly explain that I'm talking to someone on the computer and not anyone in real life. It's just much easier to use text chat than deal with all of that all the time.

But also my understanding is you can only be in one voice channel at a time, so I'd have to choose one of my guilds to talk to and ignore the other and miss zone chat as well. Admittedly a lot of the time I largely ignore zone chat because it's random useless chatter, guild spam and trade spam, but every so often there's an interesting conversation going or someone asks a question I can help with and I wouldn't want to miss that just because I have to pick only 1 channel to be in at a time.

Who actually goes into zone chat to hear that? I've never had that problem because I don't force that on myself. I just use voice for trials and sometimes dungeons if the randoms aren't up to speed.

I'm pretty sure it's because console already has the voice chat capabilities built in, so there isn't really a lot of work needed to allow it's use in-game. I also could be wrong, but if we didn't have in-game chat we could just make a party and still chat the same.

I've never used voice, I have it on in case someone's selling something I might want and not using zone chat (typing on an xbox controller without a keyboard is a nightmare), but most of the time it's the same 10 people in Vulkhel Guard talking about one night stands or people in Riften being incredibly racist (multiple times of personal experience to say it's more the default than not).

Not sure I would want to group up with people who already shout innuendos at me over my username or yell about how terrible of a person I am for walking by them on a day that ends with Y.

same. I don't play ESO on ps4, but I play other things and my chat is permanently disabled. its one of the first things I disable in settings, followed by enabling subtitles, etc.

if I want to go into voice chat, I'd rather use a separate program and join chat by choice, not by default. the experience IS different and IMO, I would rather take easy text chat over not having any and being stuck with voice only.

Same! the toxicity is bad enough in text chat. I'd hate to think of what cyro chat especially would be like if they had voice.

I used to play on PS4, and the vast majority of players I came across would always disable their voice chat. Of the players that did use voice chat, the majority of them were just there to troll, blast music, or have stupid rap battles in the city. The only time I actually enjoyed using the voice chat was when I was doing a public dungeon and wound up meeting another helpful newbie. Honestly, the instances in which having in-game voice would be better than simply using Discord are so rare that it would be a complete waste to ever bother implementing such a feature. In fact, I can only assume that the majority of people that want this feature are either trolls or extremely toxic players.

When I heard about the type of voice chat that exists on console I was horrified and wondered how anyone could bear being exposed to such a thing without going insane. Having to hear random strangers chew, play tv in the background, have yapping dogs, and say out loud the sort of awful things people say in zone chat? Sounds soul-killing. *shudder*

Why is everyone talking about the possible 'bad moments' from voice chat and not the good things possible with it? Just turn it off if you don't like it, others might need it.

Voice chat could definitely help, and discord is not just the same. Yes I am on discord with my friends, but for example when helping PUGlings through a vet DLC it would be so much easier to have a voice chat. I recently spent quite a lot of time typing things out, while I also could have left the dungeon because I was on time pressure. Having voice chat would have made it so much easier, especially for mid fight instructions and guidance. Not everyone has discord or is willing to share his discord account and having voice chat in game makes the entry barrier just so much lower.

@SteveCampsOut yes, Steve Steve you are correct but in my opinion pc games rely way too much on other sources like those you mentioned. For those that came from console it’s off putting. For example, I join a random group in cyrodil or dungeon group on console and I’m automatically put in a voice channel with them. On pc you have to use the chat box or (more so for cyrodil) the leader of group gives you a discord and you have to minimize the game, open discord, type in link, join channel. It honestly feels like a giant step backwards.

I’d agree with OP that it’s something console has over pc atleast in terms of cyrodil and pug dungeons. Toxicity? Maybe I’m lucky but I had two toxic moments in voice chat on console over the three years I played it. Pc I’ve been here just over a year in way more toxicity in chat box (in pve mostly).

So most of the time you have voice chat off and don't get to talk to other people at all? I thought the premise here was that built-in voice chat makes the game more sociable, but if it's off unless you're in a small group then I don't see how it's any different to using Discord on PC.
