the box for the grown up man (you) is given to the youngling (new players with little CPs) because the grown up man does not need the box to see, while the youngling does.

do you benefit if you have a box underneath you? not really, you are still able to see, while the box would just elevates your viewpoint further, but you dont see more because of that

do you benefit if your box is given to the youngling? yes you do, because that increases the playerbase you can play with, more choice in groupmates, better chance in finishing that darn random vet LoM you got thrown in, a better experience in pvp since the playfield is more even (sense of acomplishment is bigger the bigger the hurdle was you have overcome)

think about it, take a nap about it, even a lovely sip of tea maybe on this rainy day, reflect about it. if you still feel betrayed, well then i cant help your "futterneid"

So if I get this right, there is an argument being made that new players/existing players should
need to grind the equivilent number of hours as vets already have before they can be allowed to be on an equal setting?

No. New players can and should enjoy the new benefits but vet players shouldn't be screwed over like this. I, for example, have ~1300CP. If the math is right in this comment then a new player will be at 2980 CP if they spend as much time as I did but I will only be at 1300 CP when the patch goes live without a conversion. If they play like me they'll get to my current level in about 800-1k hours, I've spent 6k hours in game.

You've already spent 6k hours and have enjoyed being max CP for some time. A new player yet needs to spend 6k hours.
Imagine the gap between new and old players if they did convert CP.

And whats the problem if theres a gap? Isnt zos saying past 1200 is just convenience?

So? Then why nerf that convenience for old players? We can'thave that? But the new ones can reach 1200 faster than we never had...?? I dont wanna be stronger or make the new players leveling slowly with a conversion. I want equality.

i highly advice you to press on this link and take a look at the picutre (you can read further if it interests you).
Yes you want equality, but you are given equity, which is far better in any point of view.

there is a german therm of your feeling which is "futterneid" its a concept from the animal kingdom. where predetors defend their food at all cost and sometimes even eat more than they would normaly, just so no other predetor can have some of the prey.

    equality and equity explained: https://interactioninstitute.org/illustrating-equality-vs-equity/

Even a glance on the picture shows that it's not universally "better in any point of view", especially considering such a games where you're having a learning curve and progression going.

The new system is making the child go to a vip zone.

How dare they ? That's YOUR zone !

More serously, now. Will that exclude you from said zone? Will they take your cp?
Where I live, there's a local tax being removed. That's a net positive for everyone, right?
Then, still, some people complain .. "I had to pay it all those years ! It's unfair that people younger than me won't pay it for as long as I did"

It's the same thing. it's stupid and a bit sordid.
Please remember it'll substract NOTHING from what you have. Maybe it'll help people to have the same thing, but it'll not take yours away. What the hell does it change?

It's ok to be wrong, as long as you improve.
    errare humanum est, perseverare diabolicum

And one last thing ! I prefer to be in a vip zone because I'm skilled enough than because an arbitrary number says I'm high level.

well if you consider learning curves and player progression, equity is still better than equality?

ahhh the good old "white knight" accusing.
there is absolutly no white knight im my arguments, i dont defend ZOS in any action they do.

i state my opinion, and if everything you have to say is "but the child is now VIP" and "white knight" then i have nothing more to add to this discussion

Problem with the gap is that it looks intimidating to new players.
I'm CP1000+ and I can't see my XP as wasted. It's... just how the game worked before and how it's going to work after. It's still going to be easier for me to get more until I'm 1200. It's easier for new players to catch up, not harder for you to go on. You instead get to be proud that you got your CPs the hard way. Like I get to be proud that I duo-ed nMHK or nFV before the nerf. Or someone, that he got the Master Angler before Artaeum food. Or my grandma, that she stood in the queues to pay the bills I now can pay with one tap on my phone.
And, as you said, it's just convenience, right?

    Edit: got number wrong

Well having just moved from console to Pc this could'nt of come at a better time for me. I'm al level 21 and no cp on pc rn haha.

But if I was on console still I don't think I would mind them leveling the playing field a little, I never got enjoyment from whipping a low levels behind. I like to Pvp fair and skillfully.

So coming from both points of views I can see no negatives

also it may make new PvE players feel more optimistic with being able to get in to a good guild for trials etc

I just checked and appears my CP is 816 now. (Last time I noticed it was 780ish.) I guess now when I'm fully levelled it's time to start learning how to play this gaem. Oh wait...

Anyway, if 1200 is the 'new 810' and would take very long time to reach I'd find it slightly discouraging. And new CP 0 players would be many years behind without catchup.

IMO veteran point system is just fake and should not exist in any game. It's there only because making players grind is incredibly cheap compared to actual content.

Okay, this spiraled a bit out of control and some of you clearly didn't understand what I said. I'm not against new players having it easier. This will make an endgame player pool larger and it's a welcome change. But I'm against vet players not getting proportionally rewarded for the time invested in this game. This is perfected Maelstrom weapons crap all over again.

One thing to mention, I think they said that players base stats are being buffed, as if they already had cp like 15% less damage taken, more health, mag and stam, I don't think you're going to have to grind to be able to do the content you're already able to do.
