How do I choose the Server to use?

Shadowblade001
About 5.5 years ago I first downloaded the EU server version as I am in the UK.

But my friends in Australia were using the US server, so I downloaded that version.

I stopped playing when they tried to force a 30 GB patch on me for DLC I had no intention of ever using. So I have an account here and on Steam, but at neither place can I see which server I will be using or where to choose.

Cheers!

They changed it a few years ago so now there's only one version and you choose which server to connect to on the login page rather than through the launcher.

When you get to the login screen you'll see a thing on the left hand side saying which server you're connecting to and if you want to change it you just click that and select the other one.

You can switch between them whenever you want, but bear in mind all your characters, items etc. are server-specific and there's no way to transfer them from one to the other and anything you buy from the crown store is only available on the server you're logged into at the time, but your crown balance is shared.

    OK, cheers.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I have been lookng at the Blackwood CE on sale at Steam, and needed to check how I can choose the server.

So all the freebies on the NA server will not be on EU server? Ah well, I don't suppose they were all that anyway! I can live without them if I use EU server.

    Thanks for the help!

    Doesn't quite work that way.

If you pay real money for a CE edition, all the zones/items/etc will be on both servers NA and EU.

If you buy an item with crowns in game it is server locked and you would have to buy on both servers to get it on both.
  • Shadowblade001
Oh, OK. So if I log in, on either server, the freebies I was given when I first got the game will be on both EU and NA?

Although, I think the original base game was free to play, but I got some freebies when I installed from elderscrolls.com. It's been a while. I forget if I paid for that version.

Thing is, I cannot even log into my game account!

I raised a support ticket, but it took me from account.elderscrollsonline.com to bethesda.net. And now I have filed my ticket, I cannot log in to Bethesda.net!

I suspect I cannot log in to the game account because I do not have the game installed at the moment. But I would have thought I would be able to log in and then be prompted to download the game. I tried to change my password, but the site refuses to accept the answer to my Secret Question, which I know is correct.

No wonder I gave up earlier in 2021. They don't make things easy!

    Cheers!

@Shadowblade001 - you should receive a "canned" boilerplate type response to the support ticket, by email. Don't make another ticket, just reply to the email you get, stating it doesn't help (because it most likely won't help!) and restating your issue. You might have to do that a couple more times before you get a live breathing person on the other end of the email chain.

Post your ticket number here so that @ZOS_Kevin or @ZOS_Chiroptera can check to see that your ticket has gone to the correct department.

Good luck to you. Kind of not a fun way to start a new year....

Yes, I've been playing another game for almost 8 years, I know how poor MMO Support can be! Of course, it doesn't help if I was just being stupid!

Good luck to you. Kind of not a fun way to start a new year....

Thanks for trying to help, but it was my own stupid fault! I misread the secret question! DOH! I gave it the full name instead of just last name!

Anyway, I got in to my game account and it asked if I wanted to download and install the game, and it said I still have 500 Crowns in my PC/Mac account. I think there was some other stuff I had to claim from the bank within a time limit, maybe a wedding ring and some fashion, but it doesn't matter now.

And I made an account at Bethesda.net as well, but I don't know if the support tiket went through. Irrelevant now, though. The Eder Scrolls has always been my great love ever since Daggerfall was first released.

I'm still not really sure if the Crowns will be there if I download from Steam. I am sure someone told me here, so I'll check the thread.

Where I buy Blackwood CE will depend on who is cheapest and Steam is doing a 2/3 off sale atm. But I don't much like Steam, every Ninja Stealth patch of Skyrim always used to break SKSE!

I am hopeless at all this internet stuff. If I do not know exactly what I am doing, very, very well, I can't do anything without a LOT of help! I am getting old!

    Cheers!

@Shadowblade001 - well, that's good to hear, glad you got things sorted! As for old, you're NEVER too old: I'm 74, been playing RPGs (pencil and paper, then CRPGs, then MMORPGs) since the mid 70s. I've played every TES game beginning with Arena at release in 1994. There is no better fun to be had!

You can unlink ESO from steam but there isn't a nice way to do the reverse, so if you have the game so far via Microsoft Zenimax you want to go to their store to get the Blackwood CE on the same account. If you buy the CE edition on Steam then I believe you'll end up with a new copy and a new account and the new account will have Blackwood not the old one.

The deals are almost always identical. There may be odd hours they don't overlap but when there is a PC steam deal it'll match their own store deal.

The NA and EU servers are effectively two different universes and the only things that overlap are
    - Crowns
    - Content purchased for real money (not crowns) - game content and ESO+

Everything else is separated - so mounts, pets, skins, achievements, characters etc are all per server.

The only weird one is the freebie twitch crate drops, those appear on both accounts so you get twice the drops if you play on both 8)

Too many toons not enough time

Any in game things will still be there. The account page only shows crowns and which edition you bought.

ESO is an MMO, any patches are exactly the same for all versions and there's no way to avoid them like with a single player game.

If you already bought the game outside of steam, then buying the collector's edition on steam and linking it to the same account will link the two together, so that you can login in with steam or login outside of steam.

    Oh, flip!

I just bought Blackwood CE on Steam because I could not buy it here, and had the impression it didn't matter.

And now my account here just says I have THE ELDER SCROLLS® ONLINE PC/MAC DIGITAL IMPERIAL EDITION.

So will my Blackwood CE never show up here?

I haven't read all the replies, so I'm not sure how much of this might be repetition, but...

As stated, anything you buy in the Crown Store resides only on the server you bought it on.

On the other hand, anything you bought or received outside of the Crown Store should be account-wide and should be there when you log onto a different server. That includes things like collectible mounts and pets, experience scrolls, and so on that you received for purchasing a collector's edition, as well as free Crown Crates and other "drops" you received for watching a pertinent ESO stream on Twitch.

However, the mail system was changed a while back so that old system mails will no longer stay in your mailbox forever, and Twitch drops now need to be claimed within a certain period of time after you've earned them.

As far as the system mail, I'm not sure if that might affect whether you can still get your collectibles on a new server. I think the welcoming mails with any attachments should be delivered when you first log onto the new server; but if you'd previously logged onto that server and then never returned (until now), the welcoming mails have probably expired and been deleted.

And as for Twitch drops, if you'd already claimed them on some other server then they should show up when you log onto the new server, since they're linked to your account rather than to any particular server.

All of the above assumes you're logging onto the new server with your existing account, rather than some new account.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

Did you login on steam and connect the steam version to your other account?

If you messed up only support can help, but before going to them, make sure you install the steam version, run it, when it asks to create an account or use an existing one choose use existing one and use the account you want to connect.

Did you login on steam and connect the steam version to your other account?

Not yet, I want to fit my new SSD and RAM first. I bought it because today is the end of the sale. But I can link my Steam account to my elderscrollsonline.com account? And play Imperial Edition plus Blackwood CE through Steam?

Steam said when I bought Blackwood CE that I already had the base game. But I think the one on Steam is just the base game and the one here is the Imperial Edition. It has a mount, 500 Crowns, a ring to let me marry people and a few other freebies.

I cannot tell if the one on Steam is Imperial Edition or not.

I have NEVER watched an ESO Twitch or anything, other than Lucky Ghost videos on YouTube.

If you messed up only support can help, but before going to them, make sure you install the steam version, run it, when it asks to create an account or use an existing one choose use existing one and use the account you want to connect.

    OK, thanks

But how do I get notifications in my e-mail of replies to this forum?

I was really asking about how to get e-mail notifications of replies to this forum, as I can't find a way to do it.

But that info about Twitch etc is very useful for future reference.
