So, the main feature this whole year are two whole overworld companions.

I am HOPING these companions won't make real people healers/tanks redundant though. That's like... my only real concern with this.

I'm actually very sceptical about this... they said they will be everywhere exept pvp.. which means new meta with companions in dungeons..?

Sure, lets scale content to Craglorns difficulty for solo questing, based on CP and gear rating. At least story bosses would feel like bosses.

Overland is easy without CP and gear. Granted, Chapter zones are a bit more difficult, but not hard in any way. It might not be easy for a brand new player, but it is and should be for everyone who plays this game for more than 5 minutes.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing challenging in any quest or zone for solo players (not counting World bosses and Dolmen features, obviously) that cannot be corrected by putting a self healing or defensive skill in your skill bar. With that, everything that’s meant to be soloed is easily soloable. If you refuse to even slightly adjust your build, this doesn’t make the game hard - you’re just not using the simplest kind of tools you have available, e.g. your class skills.

On none of my characters I distributed CP when going from 1-50. On none of them. And I just used the gear that dropped for me. It was still easy as hell.

Why even bother with a chapter release if the dev team, due to working situations, can't come up with proper new features? Just give us two story DLCs...

Well the "boost companion HP" CP passive would look a bit weird if they released the CP re-balance before companions.....maybe  .

Interestingly, 90% of the stream was focused on selling merch and calling for new players instead of trying to retain the old ones.

Seems to me that "Companions" already exist in the game as glorified pets for certain quests, but are now being sold as a feature? I knew not to expect much when he said there would be no new systems this year, but I thought surely there was something worthy of a chapter update. I doubt companions will be useful where you would actually want them with this balance system.

Wow, so no adjustment to zone difficulties, not even optionally. Or a CP rework in that vein. At least the companions are not lizard pets, I guess. Leveling, gearing, and choosing skills for them is a surprisingly cool feature I wouldn't have thought they would have added.

Ummm... but... I need to know if we can bring them into our homes. :relieved:

And what kind of "relationship' can we form with them exactly? Asking for a friend.

So we would have to level up the companion and equip him/her with gear - so why the heck can we not just use one of our others characters as a companion?-

And then again, the companion will have to be very weak - why?- because otherwise one could just let the companion do the work.

No one is suggesting that exclusively. Stop with the strawman.

There is such am overhwlimgy dense amount of actual content for solo casual players compared to what seasoned accounts have to do. It's like they sell these sweeping chapter experiences with a big zone and the very audience that fully engages with the games various systems to be a strong as they can be and get told "you get 4 dungeons and a trial every year" and even those have extremely easy normal modes.

There is such a paltry amount of actual meaningful content for end game players in solo and group content that provides agency. Yet it's completely unreasonable that they would like to be able to enjoy the new overland content added to the game without having to arbitrarily handicap themsleves for some semblance of self imposed difficulty?

This companion system is a huge slap in the face to long time players who have committed the cardinal sin of spending their 810 champion points and used well thought out gear sets and ability loadouts, as being the only game expanding feature for the entire year..

Say it louder for the ones in the back. With every Chapter, I feel like I'm losing engagement and character identity because they don't even bother looking at the previous content while trying to add things like this. They're either going to be so OP that everyone is running them or they're so useless that they're just filler content with nothing to write home about. :/

I am very pleased to see the introduction of companions! I love soloing and it will be lovely to have a constant in game companion to keep my elf company and whose schedule perfectly mirrors ours. My elf is nurturing by nature and favors supporting roles so we're looking forward to having our very own private companion to support. One nice feature of the companions is that, if you don't want them, you don't have to use them. :)

Yep. I've never wanted companions in any game I've played since I started CRPGs in 1985 - even though I've had issues with overland questing due to lack of teenage reflexes, and having only satellite for connection. It's nice for those who have really wanted them. I'd have preferred story-mode for dungeons.

I'd love Story/Solo mode for all dungeons so you can actually experience the story content there vs. rushing through for gear farming.

I really like this as there's many times I needed help and couldn't find any. I like the idea of them having a story too. Followers in Skyrim so why not. You only need to summon them when needed so if overland is easy, just dont ask them for help.
