Could an one-time class change for older characters ever be a thing...?

My main is a nightblade. Sure, I can switch btw mag and stam but I have regretted the choice of NB for a long time. I have 10 characters and 8 only get logged into when I'm looking for a piece of gear they have.
Like others, I do NOT want to redo all those achievements on the other character I play semi regularly, as that is several thousand hours. I passed the 8000 hours' play mark in early January.

I'm against an easy class change... as this would have players simply follow the flavor-of-the-month builds.

But a system like quoted below would be awesome, and suit all of your needs as well(class change):
I would like to see something like a rebirth system. Where we keep our progress/achievements/skillpoints, but start at level one again. Maybe something offered by Azura, as a reward. Where in the rebirth we can pick a different class, or upgrade our existing class with one skillline from another class. A skillline which we can manually pick. Allow us to rebirth multiple times(only at level 50), where each time we can replace the skillline we choose in the previous rebirth, to another skilline. Or simply remove the extra skillline, and change our base class. This gives players an endless progression system, and allows players to change how their base class plays drastically with some really neat added options.

You know there's already fotm wardens everywhere in PvP right? They already make another character with the best class now. This really wouldn't affect meta players, but would really help those who settled on a main. And tbh, zos needs to fix the balance regardless.
Well, my suggestion makes it possible... but it would require them to re-level to 50. Sort of like a new character, but they get to keep all their progress/skills/achievements. Which does not seem like a bad trade off in my opinion. And there needs to be some kind of hurdle, to be able to switch classes. As it wouldn't be healthy for the game if suddenly every patch 90% of the players is class X.

But they already do that. If you don't think endgame players have a stam and mag version of every class fully leveled and only needing a respec and gear change for PVE/PVP content then I am not sure what you think endgame players are doing.

I also agree we should level class skills from scratch, however, as AlnilamE suggested, if Class Change Tokens as a remedy for future nerfs, the game should memorize class skills we already levelled in past so, for example, if I change my Nightblade to Templar and then back to Nightblade, I wouldn't need to level up Nightblade's skills again.

The opening post was about a one time change. A one time change I think would be okay with stipulation I made earlier. Switching more than once, that idea I do not like.
If they did allow for multiple class changes I think you should have to learn class skills from start each time you switch whether you previously learned those skills or not. Let's say they got rusty from non use so you have to use them again to become as proficient as you once were. Still think a one time switch would be the way to go. That way players wouldn't be doing it just for subtle changes in the game.

Class change tokens, or just class change in general, is one of the most wanted services.. Not much answer has been given from ZOS tho, so I would not hold my breath

Probably be the year of dagon theme honestly just add class change as rhe big years wow factor

i wish they'd just add job changes ingame like while in a city or something change job classes and your stuck as the chosen class in dungeons and combat. Then when they break a character class you can just hit town and swap classes.

Don't like the idea of it being a one time thing, what happens if you regret your decision? Your oldest character becomes a class you don't enjoy and you have no way to change it back.

I let go of any compulsion to be a completionist several years back!

Now if I finish a achievement it's more by luck than judgement and I have multiple max level characters of various different classes, which I enjoy playing whenever I feel like a change......

The fact that they all have so much stuff incomplete is very much a "Meh maybe oneday" thing! 🦄
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

I would suggest leveling up another character to try it out. That way you are not jumping in blind. Doesn't take long to level a character and play a bit to see if you are going to enjoy the new class. If not you wasted a little time. If you still want to make the switch you get to save all kinds of time not having to level guilds and all that type stuff.

Indeed. I have played all the classes plentifully myself actually. So, I have an idea now on what better suits my main character's playstyle but I cannot switch.

It genuinely makes no sense that you can't change class. Literally every other MMORPG out there allows you to play different classes in the same account. We can change the character's race, but not class? Like how much sense does this make? I get that ZOS is worried about selling riding lessons and skyshards, but it's immoral to force players into alts... also they'd make thousands in selling class change tokens. Lastly, it's extremely unfair to introduce new classes YEARS after the game's release and not allow old players to change their chars into these classes.

there is 1 thread per week about this and never have i seen a suggestion about the price of said class change tokens.
and we have to do some rough math before we suggest anything. ZOS is known to be heavy on the pricing of its corwn store items.

the implementing of a class change token would reduce the need of the following (only including the vital purchases in my eyes, this list could be allmost never ending):

    fighters guild skill line
    undaunted skill line
    mages skill line
    alliance war skill line
    psijic skill line

that sums up to 15k crowns. and again, these are only the vital ones in my eyes, excludinig possible riding lessons, dark brother hood and thieves guild as well as all the skyshards.
would that be a reasonable price for you OP? Would the players beeing thankfull for that token outnumber the players that are infuriated by the price? i dont know the answer.
having alts in this game has a lot of benefits, crafting writs and hirelings to name two at the top of my head, so nothing is lost while creating them.

You didnt factor in the fact that you also lose a character who had the class you changed. It would be cheaper.

ah you mean since we lose a char with all the skill lines mentioned there should be a "discount" of sort? since effectively we do not gain new skill lines, we transfer them over?
seems like an argument. dont know if it works in ZOS' eyes, since again they do not calculate what we loose, only what services they would not sell with a class change token.

again, can some one propose a price? it seems relevant to the discussion, because it would show a common ground on what the player base would be willing to pay and also the differences in the value between the lowest and highest suggestion.

I would probably change my Warden healer to a Necro healer, I do enjoy the playstyle more.

Any arguments against are moot as we already have pay-2-skip options. This is not a combat follow the fotm issue at all anymore.

An accountwide option (except skill lines) would be best.

I do have one of each class already, I leveled to have a better understanding of opponents playstyles.

ZOS will probably tell you it'll never happen...but knowing that money talks, I would guess that it will eventually be on the crown store with certain restrictions. When? Who knows...but considering we are now into year 7 of the game, probably by the end of the year would seem reasonable. Maybe when the next class drops, who knows.

I remember getting an extra character when I got Elsweyr and I think it was because of the new Necromancer class.

With that in mind I think that class change does not work in ESO and that's why they gave players a "free" character.

    Memory could be faulty ;)
