I know a lot of people in my guild never knew there were books to read in Cloudrest because it was always sprint kill sprint kill sprint kill with maybe a bit of dying mixed in with all the killing. Even without books there are things to see and screenshots to be had. Cloudrest is a small (in area) trial and players still do not see all there is to see. It isn't just about stories.
I don't think we will get a solo story mode version of dungeons or trials because it would require to many separate instances. If it were possible it would be nice for players that just want to run around and look at things.

Good thing you can go into Cloudrest and literally look at everything that can be looked at short of the small arenas all the bosses are in then, and read all the books and even engage with the NPCs, then. :)

Trials are also low on story/standalone/old. They're not even remotely required to understand what is going on in a region. In your WORD DOT WORD DOT WORD DOT WORD DOT comment you're acting like trials are pivotal parts of the story but they're literally not (altho you then go on an act like I was talking about the yearly dungeons which I clearly wasn't so... who even knows).

Was kind of my point. Cloudrest is a compact area yet many people didn't know their were books in the place. There are some trials that have all kinds of little nooks and crannies to explore. I'm lucky to belong to a guild that does story mode events and we go in knowing people are going to look under and behind everything. Some are not so lucky. I don't think it is feasible but still would be nice if you could enter the trial/dungeon solo, talk to NPCs and just look around. No rewards or experience gained just a place to explore for a while.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

As long as there's no more rewards than in overland, I don't mind, why not?

No dungeon sets, no monster helm, no achievements, skins or title.

Do we? I think you may be missing the point about group content... its kinda designed to be done with a group...

You can already travel to any dungeon or trial on your own - I am currently working my way through the dungeons on veteran, solo. Its great fun, if rather challenging at times.

I have never attempted to progress through a trial on my own, though I have beaten Hel Ra 1st boss and add pulls on my own, which again, was great fun, though very time consuming - to the extent I quickly decided I was not up for continuing!

I think the idea of 12 man group content, trials, having solo versions defeats the purpose of such group focused content. For dungeons, I guess solo versions in some fashion could work, but personally I have absolutely no need of such a feature and am enjoying soloing them on vet already.

Well, I see no harm in making a solo story mode for dungeons and trials that would allow you to experience these solo, but wouldn't give you any loot or achievements.

This is an MMO, there has never been and probably never will be an MMO that lets you experience the whole game solo. As a matter of fact, unless you are L33T, you probably won't experience a bunch of it. I have played many MMO's for years(10+ in EQ) and still never "saw" the end game content, it was reserved for those willing to put in the time, effort and coordination to do so.. which I wasn't.

ESO is entirely different in that aspect, you just need 11 rando's and you can experience the entire game. If you want to poke around and do it slowly, check every corner, then get 11 like minded friends to do it with. Although, the trials in most cases do not allow you to poke around in many cases. You will however need some minimal skills to not get wiped.

SWTOR has solo versions for all but a few dungeons. and those few dungeons are low on story/standalone/old. people are not asking to be able to solo veteran trials. they are asking for solo mode to see the story.

ESO is exactly the same way, out of the vast amounts of content in this game, there are 9 trials you need other people to completely "see". Sounds exactly like SWOTR to me.

    no, its not.

none of the dungeons have story modes.

and before you go into the whole "but you can still solo them" they are NOT designed to be soloed, and a lot of causal players can NOT solo them. SWTOR dungeons have specific modes that are designed for a solo player to enjoy the story. yes, the loot is different.

I'm acting like DUNGEONS are a pivotal part of the story. trials do tie into it though (Craglorn trials do, others to some degree, not as much as dungeons though). the only trial in SWTOR that ties into the story to that degree, btw is the one in Shadow of Revan expansions, and there - you have a solo version of encounter. its not the same as the trial, but in terms of story - it serves the same role. there IS another trial that is part of the storyline but the response was so severe, that they never did that again.

this post is about BOTH trials AND dungeons. and heck, part of the post you quoted of mine SPECIFICALY REFERS TO DUNGEONS. if you are going to argue with me, at least argue what I actualy SAID.

I would also ask for skill points to be attached to first time group dungeon completion rather then the quest, but pretty much. there are two reasons i saw against this that have any validity at all - the rest is just pettiness.

    1. too many instances may affect performance even more negatively
    2. there is a lot of work that NEEDS to be done on the game that is far more crucial, as there are severe bugs, etc and ZoS has to prioritize things.

that's it. those two are the ONLY valid arguments against. however - I still think that this is something they should consider especially since fixing too many instances issue will also help with dungeon events and just dungeon performance in general.

    No, no we really don't.

Seeing as group content only makes up a small % of the total game, and overland is the remainder of the PvE experience, if we are offering up that tiny sliver of group content to solo player to allow for them to complete their PvE game without grouping, I think it's only fair to allow people who do primarily play such a small amount of repetitive content to experience the wider game in the same way.

I don't see any reason to argue against it.

This is an MMO, meaning its a social/cooperative game. If you want a single-player experience where you can experience everything the game has to offer, try Skyrim?

I do own it , ESO is 20x more vast, complex and giganntic with tens of thousands of npcs, quests, books, etc, must I add, and pretty much will take years and years to experience most Sykrim is a tiny fragment compared to ESO behemoth

I dont think many realize how vast truly is , what you fail to realize is a freedom of choice iI dont want to wait for dayshours weeks or be forced to skip dialogue or not to enjoy to fullest because of others players rushing or ignorance

we have all different needs I am more for slower approeach and detailed in through depth exploration more attention to dialague and story

I want an option to experience trial without inteference of others and dungeons as well

I've played Skyrim and Oblivion over and over and over and its what helped me get hooked into ESO. While ESO's maps/areas are large and expansive, I find eso to be less in-depth than a game like Skyrim, where I can read the individual books on the shelves, have more in-depth conversations with NPC's, and each area is far more detailed. I understand why ESO is the way it is, but my point is that while ESO is very broad, vast, and expansive, it is far less deep than a game like Skyrim. And some of the mods I'm looking forward to using during my next playthrough (survival mode for instance).

With that said, games like ESO are simply not going to be designed to have all of the endgame content soloable. The content is simply not designed for players like you. The game was designed for a completely different audience and that, whether you like it or not, is just part of the core experience.

If you really want to experience that content without being rushed, you really do need to make like-minded friends so that you can complete that content at your own pace. Plenty of people in many of my guilds (including some of my trial guilds) have the same mindset, so they are out there, you just need to branch out and meet people.

I am not about to hijack this thread in detailed response as to why we do not need harder overland content. There are enough threads on this forum telling you that already. If you want to discuss that I suggest you comment on one of them or start your own thread.

This thread is a debate about whether or not we need solo modes for dungeons and trials.

This thread is about giving those that want story an option to experience the content they can't experience otherwise while enjoying it. Giving those that don't enjoy the anticlimactic overland an option to enjoy it as well, is the other side of the same coin.

I agree it's an mmo and value those aspects but think we can have it all ways. Why not do both and have the first sampo single and multiplayer player online? Everyone gets what they want. It's nice to do something with other people around to interact with if and when you want but not forced to do so. I enjoy trials and dungeons most of the time with other people but maybe want to just quest and potter round other times. I love ESO as it is so if it spoiled it in any way then I prefer to keep it the same but nobody seems to have tried it yet because they stick to the formula yet a lot of people seem to want it.

This would be nice but the whole premise of trials is to encourage players to group up with others. I don’t see them ever spending dev time creating solo versions of the existing content specially this late into the game’s lifecycle.

In a perfect world where everything can be provided magically, we could have this, but if I could choose between story mode dungeons or a year of expansions such as Gates of Oblivion, it's an easy choice for me. It would be quite a bit of work to restructure the dungeons to support this. Analogies have been made to other games such as SWTOR which has story mode flashpoints (aka dungeons) and operations (aka trials). The story mode versions still include all the mobs and most mechanics and for inexperienced players can still be challenging. SWTOR also has 3 difficulties, STORY, VETERAN, and MASTER mode. The veteran difficulty is equivalent to veteran in ESO, but MASTER is quite a bit harder. Story mode operations are actually more difficult than ESO's normal trials, and cannot be even entered alone.

Most base game dungeons can be soloed on normal difficulty in ESO. If not soloable, ask other players to help you do the dungeon in a manner that meets your needs. You'd be surprised what people you can meet.

This isn't a single player game. It's an MMO. All content should not be catered to everyone's playstyle. The whole game shouldn't be turned into a ghost town because some people refuse to cooperate with others in an MMO.

Turned into a ghost town is a bit dramatic, also MMO's are notorious for having a large amount of impatient, toxic, and selfish people who are unwilling to help newer players.

If players choose to solo because of bad experiences in parties (I have had my fair share) does this mean they shouldn't be able to experience the whole game?

Technically...yes. This is an MMO, as such it has group content, the very idea of which is to encourage you to group. Think of it this way - if your experience with grouping was bad, it isn't because the idea of grouping is bad. It's because you grouped with the wrong people. So find the right people. There're casual guilds out there. There're heaps of people here, on these very forums, complaining about the very same thing - why don't you guys instead start a thread 'LF people to do dungeon/trials quests with'? You only need 2 people at most to breeze through most normals.

    On unrelated note...

I totally agree with a soloable story mode for dungeons. Though I was away for several years, I'm an old player and, for example, I never realized Dagon himself speaks to Gilrain at the end of its quest (City of Ash I) — and with a Bosmeri accent, mind you.

But I disagree mobs/bosses shouldn't attack players, they just need to be considerably scaled-down so every player, of every class and I'd dare say every role can beat them.

Regarding loot, it shouldn't be changed, after all, many of us are already soloing normal versions to farm gear, aren't we?

Honest Question: Why have normal mode when story mode gives the same rewards but will be much much easier? Everyone will use story mode to farm gear instead of normal.

I'm against a new form of farming as some people want but personally also would like a full story mode at least one time per character, for ones that can't be soloed at least as already made my own "story mode runs" for the other ones. Preferably with norm/vet through as challenge is always welcomed. It's pretty hard to miss a story in more recent dlc ones but still would be something to do when the game isn't in a state where group content is playable.

It's unrealistic anyway, can't imagine zos servers handling all the new solo instances in addition to what we have now.

    I need to see them

Most dungeons can already be soloed. If you have a tanky kinda build you can solo Normal trials for the most part. The thing is, it's gonna take you forever cuz the bosses have millions of HP.

The mechanics in dungeons (for me the most interesting part) are designed with groups in mind, even more so in trials.

If you want story, there are already 1000s of quests where you can go inside Bill Nighy's dreams or see Sheogorath's idea of what Kate Beckinsale would be like if she were murderously angry with the Mage's Guild. I don't think the game is lacking in quests.

Rather than just being angry with the groups you identified, try to put yourself in their shoes.

The people who rush (like me) have done the content 1000s of times and are repeating it cuz ZOS forces grind into the game. We either need Transmute Crystals or Loot pieces and we have already experienced the story.

On the other end of the spectrum are the people who literally just started playing the game and are figuring their way through. Not to mention the game is also played by elderly people (my stepdad plays and is 73), disabled people, and many other kinds of people that do things slower than you.

So basically, we can rename your thread to be 'I want to play with people who want to play the way I do'.

And there is already a solution for that: GUILDS.

If your answer is: I don't want to play with other people full stop, then maybe go back to Skyrim or Oblivion and remember that you purchased an MMO, not a solo game.

And ultimate freedom is never gonna be found in a game. The limitations of the game alone prevent this.

Maybe you could try thru-hiking? ;)

    Good luck and have fun

Good thing you can go into Cloudrest and literally look at everything that can be looked at short of the small arenas all the bosses are in then, and read all the books and even engage with the NPCs, then. :)

SWTOR has solo versions for all but a few dungeons. and those few dungeons are low on story/standalone/old. people are not asking to be able to solo veteran trials. they are asking for solo mode to see the story.

Uhhhh I was? In the part of your post I quoted, you literally said: "people are not asking to be able to solo veteran trials. they are asking for solo mode to see the story." You were talking about dungeons in SWTOR and then only mentioned trials in ESO.

    But go off. :)

you are the one who keeps trying to make it sound as if we are focusing on trials.

I'm the one saying that there is story in both and especially focusing on dungeon stories. but do go off.

I am tired of people rushing or waiting for hours, or simply unable to join any trial because of requirements, I dont want to be a sheep following others or telling me what to do, I need ultimate freedom i want to experience everything give us insanely nerfed version of all so other type of players can enjoy it, how many players will never even experience it

Maybe you could try thru-hiking? ;)

    Good luck and have fun

can be soloed by SOME. people. SOME. they are not designed to be soloed. and some specifically have mechanics that do not allow you to solo them.

and its been pointed out in this thread (and other threads) that even when/if you find a group of people to run this with, and your schedules magically align - dungeons have these annoying mechanics where if one of you, JUST one. plays at a slightly different pace - you can end up missing dialogue because there are keypoints that you get past and role play starts, etc. whether you were finished with your stuff or not - it starts, it progresses and you miss out on things. and even with other people who are also into the story and looking around, because individual pace differs - there is always someone waiting, and someone being rushed. not to a degree of a pug, but its still there.

there are many ways to play with other people, and many ways to want to play the game with other people without limiting story content to groups. did you know... that people could be wanting to play an MMO becasue it allows them to socialize and roleplay.. but also want to go through stories solo? oh right, they are doing it wrong according to you, even though they specifically chose an MMO because it allows them to socialize in a way that single player games - do not.
