How to train new skills?!

I am lvl 49 now and there are some skills that i would like to use, sadly they are only lvl 1, so they are very weak to be used against lvl 49 mobs, at same time i dont get any exp using them against lower level mobs.

So my question is: how to train low level skill on hight level game?

i thought you simply slotted it into your action bar, as long as its slotted it gains exp you don't actually have to use that skill itself
Guild Master of Lost Prophecies, small group of friends playing in Ebonheart Pact, recruitment only accessible through playing with us and making a good impression.

    Hmm,

I don't use my healing spell much, just occasionally but I do get xp for it. You also get xp when you do quests or explore the world. So yes, it should be working unless I am missing something?

They aren't going to raise quickly just by killing a few MoBs, but when you complete quests with those abilities slotted they will level pretty quickly.

Do the quests with those abilities slotted even the pvp ones will count and you will find they level pretty fast.

Also the damage of the level 1 skills goes up with the whole skill line when it levels up as well. So they are never that weak they are useless. you just need to equip them and use them during normal game play.

I have noticed that exp raises a bit when i kill a lot of mobs, but the amout of exp is ridiculous.

I guess it only works with quests, that is a bit hard on lvl49.

It has to be on the bar you currently have equipped. It doesnt gain xp while on the alternate bar.

What line of skill? Some level by killing particular type of mobs, like Fighters Guild for example (killing daedra and undead)

The easiest way to test it, is look at your map, find a black location icon, go there to "discover" it. You will see all the skills roll by that gained EXP from the discovery. Free exp and none of those skills were used to "Discover" the location.

In my case its nightblade skills, like "summon shadow dude".

Ah ok. No that should level like others already said, unless when you hand in quests you have it on your other toolbar. Weird

Do quests with it. Killing mobs in this game is incredibly unrewarding when it comes to leveling your skills, you have to do quests with them slotted in your kit and then they will level up easily. You only receive significant amounts of experience trough quest completion.

Also read books from bookshelves, always read them, they sometimes contain books that will raise your skills even if you never used them. My Aedric Spear skill-line is already at 18 levels even though I have not used any of the skills thus far.
