Why don’t you play certain roles?

    What keeps you from wanting to play or enjoying certain roles. To be clear the roles in referring to are tank, healer, and dps.

    I usually like tanking and healing in MMORPGs but not so much in ESO. Having to collect multiple sets (think it’s like 3-5 just for healer) is a turn off for me. I just want to play the game and work on my mechanical skills. I don’t want to have to worry about grinding that many sets, allocating space for all those sets, having to download more add ons (I really hate how much mmos rely on add ons ) and having to remember which sets I should use for each group or certain trial.

    So I DPS and PvP

    TL;DR,
    To get me to play healing and tanking more they would need to
    1) Split DF into casual/advanced so i can relax and run dungeons instead of getting stuck with someone that wants to do it in 5 minutes.
    2) Make trash mobs in instances more challenging and interesting.
    3) Completely rework tanking so you are not a buffing busy body paper shuffler with a ST taunt.
    4) Completely rework heals so that it was more engaging and less of a snooze fest.


    I normally enjoy running dungeons and raids. I don't in ESO which is really disappointing. I love playing tanks and healers in both. I rarely run dungeons in ESO and i havent ran any of the ones released since scalecaller i think. Part of that is because of how toxic the people are even on normal. That sucks a lot of joy out it.

    Another big reason is i find both tanking and healing in ESO to be absolutely horrible. There is a lot of unnecessary micromanaging that some might argue is strategic whereas what i would consider really strategic play to be absent. What is passed off as important strategic play( Heals and Tanks rotations) is more about turning both into a busy body paper shuffler and less about actually making an enjoyable experience where you are making decisions based on the situation to benefit your group mates. Nope just going to spam #4 on back bar every 15 seconds to keep that buff active x every ability on both bars = Paper Shuffler.

    TO make matters worse, the tank doesnt get an AOE taunt and single target taunt is only used on bosses. Of course this is fine because trash mobs in ESO dungeons are about as fun as fighting a bunch of angry mud crabs. They are not even slightly more challenging than the NPCs found in the open world. So the boring trash basically kneecaps you so you have to fight them but they are a complete waste of time. Whereas in other games, the dungeons will often have much stronger trash mobs that present some challenge to a group and a tank actually has to gather and tank.

    I tanked every dungeon and raid in WoW before i quit right after the kung fu panda Xpack. I tank dungeons and some raids in Rift, and ive tank dungeons in other games and i hate tanking on this game. It is so exhausting just to "properly" tank a base game dungeon that i do one and im done for a week. All the stupid little buffs and such. Other games you had to use something unique to counter special attacks from bosses, not here. Buff and block, buff and bash, bash and block, stop drop and roll, etc etc.

    Healing is almost as bad. I hate that everything is group heal or random target. It is so boring. Ive healed a DPS so many times when i needed that random to hit the tank. Instead DPS gets it, tank dies, I can't stop healing the dps long enough to res the tank, he cant res the tank because he is getting smacked around, I cant pull aggro off him, I run out of res, he dies, i die, we start over. All because i cant bloody target heals. Also makes it boring to group heal. I have never been so bored healing in a game as i am in this one. Sometimes, if i have a dps bar, i will dps/heal. But in harder dungeons you really need to focus on healing especially in a PUG so im stuck casting a heal rotation like im a factory worker... YAY ME!
