Is it EVER ok for officers to ask guildies to donate real money ingame?

✭✭✭✭✭I joined a trading guild where one of the officers linked a go fund me page to the guilds discord, asking guildies to donate to another guild member. There was a link to a go fund me page. The page asked to help this guild member but gave no reason as to why they needed the money. Apparantly it was a private reason. They wanted 1 thousand dollars.
The officers in that guild were all shady aswell as the guild master and im thinking that they all work as a team to scam people. When i quit...one of them whispered me asking for gold from me. I blocked them
Yes i quit the guild and put the other dudeon ignore but I wonder how many people donate real money to them out of kindness not realusing they are being scammed.

✭✭✭✭✭Oof. Stories like this make me more grateful for the guildmasters and guild officers I've worked with in trading guilds. Nearly all of them have been very professional in both demeanor and how they handled guild gold. There was always a clear commitment to helping guildies have fun in ESO.
I mean, I'd think that's sort of a low bar to clear, honestly. But then I read stories like this and, well..."Thank you, all my decent guild leaders/officers."1
