I have started two guilds and then gave them away to others to manage

Small guilds to be sure about 50 players and probably half that are active. I started them on the premise that guilds should give set training gear for free to guild members below cp 160 and cp 160 gear that is craftable costs only the mats needed to make it. Also i began them with the idea that the guild bank should be shared. This premise works to a point but someone always wants to ruin it and take advantage. This seems to work very well for building a new guild up.

Recently i went to the other server and went into zone chat and asked for free training gear and the one person who was willing to do it didnt have the skills to make set gear. A guild i applied to asking for training gear to help me get started told me to bugger off. I have two 9 trait crafters on Eu and have made a buc=nch of free gear for folks. Is there anyone on NA who is willing to make me training gear for my new toon to help me start again on the NA server?

We share the same ethos brother. I think this is at least the basic deal of being guildies, we help each other reach our goals. Guild banks show camaraderie and while that random recipe you get from it means very little to who put it in it may be the one you need to complete your list or need it for a writ on a new toon, it was either selling for 10g to a merchant or cost you 270g from a merchant.
I never sell my recipes or plans/diagrams ect I put in Guild banks for that exact reason.

This sucks, sorry to hear people can be like that. Looking at the thread it looks like there's at least some people on NA who will help you out though.

I'm always happy to craft training gear free or CP gear for mats. Same with WW and vamp bites which I have seen some people really take advantage of and charge really large amounts (particularly to newer players for whom 10-20k might be a months worth of gold). If I can see the deal is going down I'll often port straight to the relevant shrine and bite for free before the deal goes through.

So this isn't really a thread about the OP giving away guilds. It's a thread asking people to make the OP gear.

Your subject is "I have started two guilds and then gave them away to others to manage". But your real reason for the thread is to ask for free armor.

That seems to be quite a cynical takeaway aha.

I think it's more for comparative purposes i.e. "I've always provided this service to newbies / guildies and have even started two guilds on EU to do so. As such it's surprising to see a lethargic response to doing so on NA".

    Sorry but that won't work.

I've never once asked anyone to make me free gear. I crafted my own or paid for what I needed. Guilds are not responsible to take in new members and immediately give them free gear and access to the guild bank. Members should have to prove themselves before expecting anything in return.

SilverBride is correct. The title has little to do with the actual subject of the thread.

They gave the guilds away, so they aren't providing anyone with anything. Then they asked for free gear in a guild application and didn't even wait to be admitted as a member first. The whole point of the thread's title was to pull people in to ask them for free gear.

    Cynical? No.
    Realistic? Absolutely.

That's pretty cynical view imo. OP seemed to me surprised that people on the NA server was like that, when their experience on their old server was so different. Seemed moreso a comparison than anything else. The free gear was just a bonus.

I've never once asked anyone to make me free gear. I crafted my own or paid for what I needed. Guilds are not responsible to take in new members and immediately give them free gear and access to the guild bank. Members should have to prove themselves before expecting anything in return.

There are a number of guilds who do that. I had a lovely small trader guild that crafted free gear below CP 160 for players, but they also had a real process where you signed up on the website to give your order to a guild crafter so the crafters didn't get overworked and could get guild credit for their time and effort. One of the best run guilds I've ever been in, honestly.

So some guilds, especially those who's goal is to welcome new players, will make training gear. Guildfinder makes it easier to find those guilds, thankfully.

My other guilds, the ones who are oriented for trading or PVP? That would probably depend on whether anyone was one who felt like dropping everything to go craft training gear - or get on their main crafter to make training set bonus gear - for the newbie.

My recommendation for asking for gear, especially set gear, is to write out an "order" including the set/per piece, traits, weight/per piece if applicable, and even style if you want something other than whatever I've got the most style stones for in my craft bag. Its enormously helpful for me to craft for someone who knows what they want and to have a checklist as I work. Otherwise I do dumb things like forget the trait.

And if it doesn't work, there's always hunting for Armor of the Trainee on the starter islands.

That would hold more water if the OP's replies explained any of that, instead of just replying "huh" and "what" to evade answering. Plus they weren't just comparing. They came right out and asked for free gear. That is what this thread is really about.

And I seriously doubt there were ever any guilds formed and given away, either. If the OP can't even gear themselves, how were they gearing others?

We craft gear for new players BUT we like you to be in the guild a bit longer than 30 seconds before asking. We also want you to go to our discord and fill out a little premade form for what you want so one of our crafters can "pick up your order". We also ask that you don't repeatedly ask for the same thing over and over in chat when we've advised you of the process.

OP, I'm sorry but I'd kick your app to the curb in a heartbeat if you asked for free gear in your app instead of telling me why you'd be a good fit for our family!

No to mention anyone can START a guild, it's maintaining a guild that requires patience, time and yes talent.

Different Server. They were on EU, then asked for gear on NA.

Being on NA myself, I can't speak to the situation in EU guilds or how likely they are to craft gear for new members.

Well you can think what you want, but this thread was nothing more than a bait and switch.

I mean, if they were asking for something that would be worth a lot of gold, but training gear for a new character? Worst scam ever if it really is a bait and switch.

That's exactly what it is. Scams often start with something small then move on to bigger requests.

While this thread certainly started off with a weird roundabout introduction that didn't really have anything to do with the request for free gear, my main guild does just that on a regular basis.

If a newbie needs gear, especially training gear, we're all happy to provide. We've all been there (being a newbie) and some of us still remember.

Remember, the OP is the same forum-goer that just started a thread asking for all sets in the game to be craftable ... including Trial sets.

So, we're back to think what you want ... ;)

OP was on a different server before but you have a fair point with the "huh" and "what" responses.

    Greetings all,

As it would seem this thread has derailed from the initial subject, we have decided to close it. When replying to a thread, we ask that all comments be kept on the subject at hand.

    Thank you for your understanding,
