premise that guilds should give set training gear for free to guild members below cp 160 and cp 160 gear that is craftable costs only the mats needed to make it. Also i began them with the idea that the guild bank should be shared.

That seems to be quite a cynical takeaway aha.
I think it's more for comparative purposes i.e. "I've always provided this service to newbies / guildies and have even started two guilds on EU to do so. As such it's surprising to see a lethargic response to doing so on NA".

They gave the guilds away, so they aren't providing anyone with anything. Then they asked for free gear in a guild application and didn't even wait to be admitted as a member first. The whole point of the thread's title was to pull people in to ask them for free gear.
Cynical? No.
Realistic? Absolutely.

Sorry but that won't work.
I've never once asked anyone to make me free gear. I crafted my own or paid for what I needed. Guilds are not responsible to take in new members and immediately give them free gear and access to the guild bank. Members should have to prove themselves before expecting anything in return.

I mean, if they were asking for something that would be worth a lot of gold, but training gear for a new character? Worst scam ever if it really is a bait and switch.

That would hold more water if the OP's replies explained any of that, instead of just replying "huh" and "what" to evade answering. Plus they weren't just comparing. They came right out and asked for free gear. That is what this thread is really about.
And I seriously doubt there were ever any guilds formed and given away, either. If the OP can't even gear themselves, how were they gearing others?
