Nah, just crummy RNG. I have 3 of the lunar phase windows and it only took about 40 dragons.

Glad to see this thread as I was wondering if it was just me. When Greymoor first hit, I was getting random leads left and right. I did them to get one char to 10. Then during the event I farmed Artaeum (green-blue-repeat) just to get three other chars up to 7 for the glowing chest perk. Now back to normal adventuring but get almost no leads. Maybe one or two since the event started. I don't care too much since I don't farm for anything but thought it odd.

The hardest leads to get are the ones that drop from lockboxes, treasure chests and thieves troves. Those just pure rng, especially if you need that one piece to complete the music box. ... and the lead only drops in lockboxes. (I've been at it, on and off for 3 weeks now. Started a new character too. Figuring I might as well grind out the thieves guild skill line also while I'm at it. LOL :p )

Someone posted in another thread that s/he got the music box piece that's supposed to come from lockboxes from a treasure chest. I sure hope that's true....

It's really just RNG. I was able to get most of my orange furnishing leads within minutes up to an hour of farming for it. But Minotaur, Giants and Font of Auriel (from Bloodknights) are taking forever for me (I haven't gotten them at least once yet).
As to the wolf mount, I got the Volenfell one on first try, the Darkshade Caverns I after 3 tries and the Darkshade Caverns II after over 50 tries.
RNG is weird, and it sucks balls sometimes (most of the time really).

Hmm so I guess font of auriel is giving trouble to most people

Two weekends ago my guild ran the Stonethorn dungeons as a guild event and in my group 2 people got the Font of Auri-el (one in each dungeon).

IMO, much more rewarding than Mage's guild or Psijiic skill lines especially on main characters who have all skyshards and exploration done. Some RnG is definitely frustrating; but at least you make some decent gold along the way.

The drop rates for leads in time consuming content like dungeons and trials shouldn't make you feel like you're grinding BiS weapons before transmutation existed. Tradeable leads for the same time period as the monster helms and other timed BoP gear would make things less grindy.

I dont think most of them are that bad, have had difficulty getting a few but thats ok.

However I would like getting leads while your doing other things to be a more common occurrence. Having some rarer ones that you have to farm is fine. I want to be able to go out and do antiquities as an activity rather than just something I do when I get a lead. Yes there is always the base ones but they get boring after while. Especially after you unlock all the lore about them.

Yeah, once you've done everything in an area, going back to find leads can be boring. I've got 3 and 2/3 antiquities to do on Bleakrock and fishing, killing low level wolves, stealing nodes from low levels and looking for chests are the only things to do while I'm there and its pretty boring.

Anecdotal, but if I'm having trouble with a lead I usually swap toons and get it that way in a few extra tries.

I have a love/hate relationship with RNG. On one hand that rare drop feels GOOD. On the other, it sucks to have bad luck.

It seems to me that they drop often enough for what are supposed to be leads for rare treasure. I find one once in a while — what people describe from when Greymoor first came out (I wasn’t online much then) sounds a bit absurd and it was good that it was adjusted. I have only specifically looked for one lead so far — the third piece for the Aldmeri music box. I just did a bit of safebox cracking each day in Glenumbra, some days more than others, but not to turn it into a chore. Yeah, at times I felt impatient, even frustrated, but it was a very good feeling when I finally found it! And the citizens of Daggerfall were glad too!

What I've noticed is that the first lead drops fairly quickly. But if you want it again, especially if it's a golden lead, it might take *forever* to get it.

It took me a whole weekend 12+ hours a day to get all the leads for the Wolf Mount, definitely a stressful grind at times.

But it took me 10 mins to get N.Elsweyr and S. Elsweyr gold leads from Dragons when I wasn't looking for them.

It’s actually a good idea. Until you’re killing 3 dragons on 7 different characters every day for a month and STILL DONT HAVE THAT DAMN WINDOW LEAD (or a even a second Shrine of Boethra)

Eh, I tried that. Numerous times. No one's getting leads. I did get the King's Trove one on one account EU today. That's the first "extra special" lead I've got on that account.

Very unhappy about the RNG on this. I love the antiquity fun - but the lack of extra leads (no matter how many chests, safeboxes, thief troves, nodes I hit) is pretty disheartening. ESPECIALLY when I had a gazillion leads in the first month when I hadn't bought Greymoor, and didn't want to ever.

So yeah, I did buy it for both accounts because I wanted the house. And now.... no leads to be found.

    Bad cess, @ZOS.

That music box piece gave me a devil of a time, then pretty much straight after I finally found it and dug it up, I got it again. Now it's just the damn safebox one I need again.

I've got the first two pieces on my main account PC NA. But I'm so not into the safebox thing.... Someone in another thread posted they got the last piece from a treasure chest instead of a safebox - and I really hope that's true.

With 4 pieces of Darloc Brae, 3 pieces of Night’s Silence, and 5 pieces of Night Mother’s Embrace, all overland drops, plus the passive to force locks, safe box farming is super duper fast and easy, even if you aren’t playing a khajiit. Since you’ll be focused on crime-ing instead of fighting, traits don’t matter, so it’s easy to get the requisite pieces. This set-up was my sanity saver for the 5 billion (give or take) safe boxes I had to open to get the lead.
