However, the crown store sales would probably drop drastically if they had a class change token because then nobody would need to spend crowns on mount speed upgrades, skill lines, skyshards, and so on.
From a moneymaking point of view, this company would probably rather have people buy many tokens, upgrades, skill lines, etc. from the store than just one token to rule them all
But I totally agree with OP: my main is a nightblade that I had since launch, did as much as I could with her. I have a special connection with that character. Yet, I would love to play as her being a warden instead, or maybe a templar or something DIFFERENT just for a change.
I don't have another 6 years of resources to get an alt character back up to where my main is, sadly.
Why would you need to? If you want a character to play "just for a change", why does it have to have everything that your main has?
Class change tokens wouldn't be a one-off thing, they'd be a never-ending cycle of purchases. Change Class A to Class B with a token, Class A gets buffed so you need a token to change back, then Class A gets nerfed again while Class C gets buffed so you need a token to change to Class C which then gets nerfed while Class D is buffed, and so on ad infinitum. Then a new class is introduced and everyone buys a token to change to that at max level without bothering to level through the class and learn what it's all about. Meanwhile everyone runs around with Class A characters, then Class B characters, then Class C characters and so on... No-one bothers to play the game any more, they just switch classes for the one bit of the "endgame" they play before complaining that there's nothing to do. And if anyone thinks ZOS make too many adjustments to the classes now, just wait until they can sell Crown Store tokens every time they tweak the classes, there'll be no limit to the class adjustments.
Be careful what you wish for!

I have 8 characters and I agree with the cat kidnapper...I can't be ***ed making any more characters and levelling them with everything, Mage's guild, Psijics, Undaunted etc. I've done more race changing than character development because it's long and annoying at this point. Also the fact that the skill lines mentioned above can be sold in crowns, this really pushed the motivation to grind right down.

1. That's 18 if you pay
2. I have one free slot, 3 if you count mules, but I would never ever want to just drop my main and "create a new one". Because I have achievements earned, motifs and recipes learned, horse trained, and, most importantly, I have quests done on that specific character. She has her story. You know, that important moment when NPC in chapter recognizes you because you got rid of skeevers in his basement in the starting zone or something? It's like proposing someone ditch their kid and just "make a new one".

Essentially, they have everything you need to make a new character quickly. Add up how much all the below would cost, and that would likely be the price, with maybe a 10% discount on the total cost.
150% Scroll Crown Purchase
Skyshard Crown Purchase
Skill Line Crown Purchase
Mount Training Crown Purchase

Sounds like the real solution is account bound achievements.

Again, this is not the issue. Quests (Cadwells Gold), Achievements, Titles, Motifs, Furnishing, Consumables, Lorebooks, PvP rank, Overworld Exploration, Trait Research, etc. are the things we want to have. You cant buy these things in the crown store, you need to re-do them which is time consuming. It took me almost 6000 hours to get my main at his current state, I dont want to invest another SIX THOUSAND[ (!!!) hours for another char just to get them at the same state as my main when I could simply keep playing my main, or another game.
I think anybody who started playing before 2019 should get 2 free class change tokens even if its only a one time thing seeing as they would probably lose money in the crown store I doubt they would.
If you started playing at or near launch classes in 2016 compared to 2020 are completely different almost unrecognizable. Also Warden and Necro wasn't available back then is all the reason to have class change now.
I doubt they will make achievements account wide. There is enough of a player base that wants each character to have their own achievements that they would have all sorts of headaches to deal with.
I think we'll see that class change token show up one of these days. I mean, who the heck cares? PvP balance is a bust. So what if everyone is playing the same class? That would actually create a form of balance in its own way would it not?

100% agree, NBs are nothing like they used to be when the game was released. And I also agree that giving "old veteran" players 1-2 class changes would be probably the best solution given the crown store economy with skyshards and FOTM worries.

I could see a split of account bound, and non-account bound achievements. That would make for a nice QOL improvement to the game.xI_The_Owl_Ix wrote: »I think anybody who started playing before 2019 should get 2 free class change tokens even if its only a one time thing seeing as they would probably lose money in the crown store I doubt they would.

You'd had at least 3 years to decide the class you play isn't what it once was. At any time, you could have created a different class.
I have 1 main. He is the crafter, and achievement gatherer. He does all the things. I then have 10 alts to play. At no time when they do drastic changes am I flat out screwed. I always have another character to lean on if my main isn't what it once was.
This is why they give us so many character slots. If the intent was to do everything on 1 character and 1 character only, we'd have 1 slot.

Im sorry... what?? Ive created my main 5 years ago when the game launched, my decline of enjoyment of my NB-main started at around the end of 2018 when Ive already had done most of the content. I stopped playing for a year through 2019. Came back in 2020, and now I dont enjoy playing NB one bit.
No drastic changes?? NBs had different skills which were straight up replaced, every major update changed a lot of abilities, passives, etc. Thats also not NB exclusive. ALL classes had drastic changes. I didnt like playing DK 4 years ago, now I do.
The point is: giving your consumers (us) the option to change class is the most consumer friendly option which doesnt spit on the consumers time and money and forcing them to re-do everything that theyve already done. Be it via class change token, or giving old veteran players one time only 1-2 class change tokens. I dont mind both of these options because its clearly overdue.
You dont want it because you feel like you dont need it? Fine. Dont use them, nobody is forcing it on you. But there are a ton of people who are in the same position as me and would love to be able to change their main to something that gives them more joy.

That is at least 3 years. 1 year for the changes, 3 for the decision.

As much as I am all for options and being able to adjust anything... I don't think class change should exist. Many players would all revert to the flavor of the month with every patch. Which would create a really unfair situation for other classes. Players should stick to the class they choose, or simply respec one they already have.

You do realize all that defines a class are 3 skill lines, nothing more, it is already shown that you can remove Skill lines given how if you cure yourself of Vampirism or Lycanthropy you will lose the respective skill lines.

If it were that simple it would've been done already no doubt, we all know how greedy ZoS are when it comes to cash grabs. ZoS already stated they don't have the tech to pull this off, lets also not forget that there are much larger areas of the game that clearly need their priority right now. Personally I think class change is a terrible idea that will hopefully never see the light of day. Services like this should NEVER happen.

They told us alliance change would never happen as well and yet, here we are with alliance change tokens. I'm in favor of class change as long as the current dev team exists since they have no problem gutting whole classes and playstyles with no regard for the effects and then leaving them in a sad, broken state for an indeterminate amount of time until they feel like looking at it again.
