My Symptoms: Constant disconnects during load screens whenever changing zones or characters thus having to log in again several times until it works.
The Cause: My ISP recently switched to using PAT (Port Address Translation) instead of NAT (Network Address Translation) and their... less than ideal... implementation was leading to my IP constantly shifting - basically with every request. ESO seems to have problems with this - as do some other services that may log you out without apparent cause. Since ever more ISPs switch to PAT (because of the dwindling IPv4 address space and sluggish adoption of IPv6) this may be the cause of other problems too - for instance infinite load screens or lag spikes.
How to find out if you are affected: Use websites that show your public IP. Just google "whats my ip" to find a number of sites capable of doing this. Reload several times over a minute. If your IP keeps changing there is a good chance this is the reason for your disconnects. Note that some such services may not properly renew the address (like Google Search itself, which does have the ability to show your IP too) - so it's best to try several websites.
Solution: Call your ISP, tell them about the problem, ask them if PAT is used and if so politely ask them to switch you back to NAT.
After having to put up with disconnects - that forced me to log back in 5-10 times just to switch zone or character - ESO now runs disconnect free again on my end. As this is mainly a network issue it's highly likely to be platform independent.
@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_KaiSchober Maybe something to tell the devs? It may be possible to fix on your end - although it may have to do with security measures not to allow alternating IPs. But you guys should definitely notify your support staff about this so that they in turn can tell those affected.
EDIT: To avert misunderstanding: This is not about the current
XBox issue.
