What do you use alts for?

Accelerateless

My question mainly revolves around how/what others use their alts for. Do you use them as fully geared spares, writ gold farmers or maybe storage?

PS: I currently have 16 characters, 3 fully geared, 4 other CP level, and 9 others that I just level mount stats on so I don't have to do it from scratch.

Some people like to try playing all of the roles (DD, Healz, Tank) for each of the classes, which is cool.

I've gone for 2 PVE DPS (1 mag, 1 stam), 1 tank, 1 healer, crafter, PVP Stam, PVP Mag, PVP gank, full vamp build, full werewolf build etc. which I find more interesting than rolling the same build on multiple classes minus a few class skills.

11 of my 15 slots are geared to play different builds for PvP and PvE. I like to make at least one stam and one magicka of each class. The other four slots are just ones that I haven't finished yet. Oh and I do have one dedicated crafter as well, but that one can still take on PvE content as needed.

I have 18/18. 14 max level, 1 on the way to max, and 3 waiting for.double xp. They are all used for writs and surveys. 1 pvp, 1 mag dps, and 1 stam dps. 8 are fully craft levelled. 6 have all crafts levelled except for jewel and enchant, and 4 are base but will eventually go max. Only 2 have traits almost fully researched.

But I.liked your way of setting up.your alts. So once I get them all max level I see myself doing something like that. 1 pve mag dps, 1 pvp.stam dps, 1full werewolf,1 full vampire, 1 pvp stam, 1 pvp mag. Thanks for the insight.

I used to have a main and a couple of mules, but character ideas piled up, I gave in and now I have a PVP char, a PVE healer (a vampire, but it's unrelated to build), a tank, and 2 DD. DD here are mostly to try other classes, tank and healers so that I could go into random dungeon and not grow old in queue. But main is still main - she does farming, crafting, event stuff, questing, PVE, PVP, fishing and some achievement hunting.

I use alts so I can play all classes and all specs on them for different purposes. Each of them also is a dedicated mule for a single category of items so I know where to put them without cluttering my whole inventory with junk.

That is also an insightful idea. Not sure why I never thought of it. It's so simple and effective. May actually make the need for eso plus a non factor for me. If i max out the inventory upgrades for 18 characters...i can certainly get rid of the craft bag....hrm...thanks!

All of mine are "people I play". Varying levels, but as geared as I can make them depending on level - sometimes they're in crafted sets, sometimes in overland drop sets.

Also if you are on PC, the addon Inventory Insight will show items on your other characters. You just have to log in on each of them so it knows the items they have.

I have 18 characters and I basically play all my alts. All the characters are level 50. I try to do every role, but so far haven't gotten into healing. I craft and research on all my alts, and use them for different occassions. Like right now, I basically remade my entire first character(was neglected for years from when I didn't understand the game yet) just for this event to scry on.

But I like playing all of them, yet time does not permit this hehe. Want to get all of them through all zones, and all DLC. As well as get all the skilllines that matter on them.

At the moment there is only one character I cannot really play, so I will have to re-do him one day. But everything else is geared, and ready to play for whatever they were intended for.

PS: I'm not using any of them as mules! (although one is holding some master writs which I plan to do after this event is over)

I have 15 alts as of now and I use them to try out different builds and roles, as well as play through my favorite content again since I enjoy the story and lore of the game. During the Jubilee event they're also great for farming motifs via crafting writs.

    I have 9 characters.
PvE: 1 stam DD, 2 mag DDs, a healer, a tank, and a harvester (which I have completed some DLC hardmodes with, so I guess it's a second stam DD).
PvP: 3 mag toons, two of which are identical but in different alliances.
Every toon is maxed and fully geared. I do daily writs with all 9.

This is a hard question! I can relate to a lot of the answers here. Basically something or some interest at the time gives me an idea for a new character. I say I have altitus, but it’s more like I think of all of my characters as my main, just whichever I’m drawn to playing at the time. I do have just one dedicated crafter who also PvEs. I was also just planning to have one character do the antiquities lines, but after getting the passive that helps find treasure chests I now want to get that on more characters. I love set theory crafting and mixing/matching different sets to see what they can do with the different classes.

I have at least one character for every class, role, race and alliance (of course not all of the combinations) with a priority of having all the races and classes.

Currently at cp-levels: bosmer stamina nightblade (main, PVE), altmer warden healer (PVE), breton magicka necromancer (PVE) and dunmer magicka nightblade (PVP).

Below lvl 50: dunmer magicka sorcerer, nord dragonknight tank, orc stamina warden (maybe pvp), khajiit templar healer, imperial warden tank, argonian nightblade tank or healer (only lvl 3, so haven’t decided yet  ), and redguard stamina dragonknight.

From the alliance perspective I think it’s something like 4 AD, 4 EP and 3 DC.

And I actually like levelling alts kinda slowly by doing mainly daily dungeon/BG, some starter zone quest lines etc. It’s fun trying to learn to play a new class/role. I’m also researching traits with all of them, but only my main is a crafter — although I’m planning to level crafting skills with couple of other chars for the grand repair kits and master writs too.

Edit. I also tend to store gear in their inventory according to their planned role and usage, even when they are below 50.

Mine are for a combination of rp and the ability to bring different specs to different content. I used to have 8 but I just made a new one the other day. A have essentially a self-insert for only crafting purposes since none of my characters are actually crafters to the full ESO extent. Three of my nine are technically the same character but she suits three of the classes so I made her three times so I have more flexibility to play her.

experience different classes. i love most of them except templar which got deleted at some point.

i like a couple of races so i combine them both. currently im trying to level khajiit stam sorc since i wanted a khajiit too. ive deleted 2 stam sorcs before this because its sooo boring to level them up. though i may also make a khajiit nb but i keep telling my self whats the point since my main is darkelf stamblade. plus woodelf nb and argo nb still waits to be leveled up but why? i dunno.

    pls help.

I have one Mag/Stam version of each character for DPS, and then a few extra for Tank/Heals that I want to play. But from patch to patch, I typically play 3 or 4 characters.
    - My main character, either for writs or new content/quests.
    - My main DK tank...always good.
    - DPS -- really depends on the patch, because I like to be effective. For Vet dungeons, I usually run a Stam character. For Vet Trials and progression groups, Mag NB/Cro to maximize damage output, or whatever the group needs me I can switch to.

Short answer: They give me different options.

All my characters are different classes (I technically have 2 dragon knights, but one is a crafter with very few combat skills) and they're also at different points in the story or approach things differently. It means when I log in I can choose what I want to play instead of having to do one bit. For example when a character gets to Coldharbour I tend to space out questing on them with doing something somewhere more colourful!

It also means when events start or something I can choose who is the best character to do it, or switch between them. For example my DK is currently staying in Solitude doing a daily quest each day, while my templar is doing antiquities. My necromancer spent the whole Elseweyr event at the bottom of a delve, so I could kill the boss once a day without having to all the way back there after doing other things.

It also means if I'm doing a dungeon with friends I've got a few options to fit what the group needs, although my tank is still low level and doesn't really have the right skills yet.

    18/18 here - 17 at max level

    5 Nightblades - 3 stam / 2 mag - 3 for PVP, 1 thief, 1 PVE dps
    4 Sorcs - 2 stam / 2 mag - 1 crafter (Main), 2 PVP(1WW), 1 PVE (Petsorc)
    3 DKs - 2 stam / 1 mag - 2 for PVP and 1 PVE tank
    2 Templars - 2 mag - 1 healer, 1 dps
    2 Necro - 1 stam / 1 mag - 1 PVP, 1PVE
    1 Warden - Stam - PVP
    1 mule

I try to play them all (except the mule) and I use them all for different roles/styles as I'm not a fan of the same thing over and over. I generally pull down 8-10 geodes from a 30 day campaign so most of those tunes get played regularly. The PVE toons get played when I'm in need of gear for the others and my crafter gets played daily.

I start them as storage and maybe crafting but with different races/classes to try differing styles once they've got enough riding skill to be playable, then play them.

I've done the different storylines with different characters rather than them all through the Cadwell's silver/gold.

I've chars for all roles, all fully geared (8 chars PS4 EU) or getting there (6 chars PS4 NA, 4 chars PC EU n 1 PC NA). I like to play with them all, either Pve n PvP :)
I never bought lines/shards from CS (and I won't) so, that's the most time consuming atm (skill points, mages guild line n psijic line). Besides, of course, from mount leveling (still leveling 3 on PS4 NA n 4 on PC EU).

Set collections will make player's alt chars soooo much easier to equip. Thanks again, ZOS!

Edit: Almost forgot my PC NA char lol

I enjoy having characters of different races and classes, different looks and play styles. I am always keeping gear that could be useful for any of them (and even my lowbies carry set pieces I’ve picked up that I think might be useful when they hit level 50, so then they’ll at least have a set or so ready to go for the general theme/role I had in mind). Right now two of my level 50’s are properly geared while they other two are still-in-progress / will-get-to when I feel like. All of my characters end up shouldering a portion of inventory, most carrying a style or category of furnishing, and one character carries every potentially useful undaunted head and shoulder piece I’ve collected over time! Believe it or not, I actually do go through from time to time and decon, donate or destroy things I’ve determined I’m not going to use, although I could probably stand to do so a lot more...

I used to have one of each class, so I could experience them all. But what I found myself doing was rolling a new class, playing it to level 50, then setting it aside while I rolled the next one. So basically I only played one character while the others laid dormant, which defeated the purpose of playing each class.

So when I returned to ESO last year, I rolled a Necromancer, and when I hit 50 I looked at my character list, deleted all but 3, and now I play them all.

I try to have a viable tank, DPS, and healer on the active roster. The rest are all leveled crafters that can do writs. If I want to ramp up my gold for a while, I start grinding writs on my alts. Otherwise, I play them randomly when the mood strikes me or if it is beneficial to do so due to an event.

Basically the same as in any MMO I play -

    • Try different playstyles & zones (back when you started in the different factions and had to go through them in order)
    • have extra characters for events (Moar Daily Boxes! Moar event prizes! Etc)
    • extra characters for farming (crafting writs, etc)
    • fun with character customization
    • and a bit of mule-ing

I've got 8 characters currently, about half are max level & somewhat 'geared'. I don't do trials/dungeons/hardmodes, so my version of 'geared' is lower than the usual.
