I just tried to purchase the Boston (Breton) Terrier for a friend (his kids really like the little pets), and it says that I'm unable to do so? Has it always been like that (I've only been playing a little over a month), or is this new? Any way to give him the Gems, and he can just buy it himself?

    You can't gift gem items neither can you gift gems themselves, only things that can be purchased for crowns (like crates themselves).
    Maybe you can somehow gift the dog with support's help, but it's highly unlikely.
