Do you think Microsoft will make an ESO 2?

ESO is a very story driven casual-friendly game. It would be nice if a new MMO in the ES universe came out that was more catered to PvPers and players that enjoying changing PvE and skillful gameplay with a high skill ceiling.

Think it would happen? It's just wishful thinking on my part.

My wishful thinking is a remake on a newer engine with the hope it will fix the performance issues.

    Maybe eventually?
This one still seems to be steadily limping along. At a certain point, its easier to add more content to an existing (if somewhat broken) system than it is to build a new system entirely to run essentially the same game.

I think they should just focus on story and casual PvE for the current game. It's what sells and hardcore PvEers and PvPers just keep getting frustrated every update. Having different games for different types of players would make everyone happy.

Will there be an ESO 2? Probably.

Anytime within the next 5 years? Unlikely.

Will it cater to the hardcore any more than ESO currently does? Very unlikely.

If they do then as long as I can keep all my cosmetics and stuff then I am fine with it. I'd rather they just overhaul the current game and keep it going like WoW and Runescape and other MMO's

Microsoft isn't buying Zenimax media for ESO. The singleplayer IPs they get out of this deal will be infinitely more profitable in the long term. I'm not sure why some of you seem to think they're just going to swoop in and replace the current development team. They have been very hands-off with studios that they have acquired in the past and I don't see that changing now. Either way, the sale will not even be finale until sometime in 2021. "ESO 2" is extremely unlikely.

The problem with an ESO2 is, what would it contain? The same world zones we have already explored? So just eso with better graphics? I can't see that happening.

I never said anything about the current dev team being replaced. I'm hoping for another MMO in the ES universe that has a focus on skill-based combat, challenging PvE, and good quality PvE, and they can just have this current MMO be focused on story and casual PvE like it does currently.

I doubt it will happen by 99%. While it would be fun to see another type of ESO game, it won't happen because of money, they are already getting tons of cash through this game, building another one doesn't make any sense, since it will just drive some ESO players to a new ESO, which basically they will just swap the game, yes they will buy it, but sub from ESO will be gone, as well as purchases of crowns and expansions, so there is no point of doing that. That is one of the reasons why we won't see WoW 2 for example, WoW same as ESO won't see a part 2 until people stop playing part 1. Game industry is a business, and most corporate heads might not even care about the product, as long as it makes money.

Yes, I'm sure one of the most successful MMO's of all time, one that is currently amongst the most played and profitable on the market, and is likely to remain as such for a very long time, wasn't considered at all when the buyout was decided on.

I'm sure they won't want to milk it for all that it is worth.

I'm happy with ESO as it is completely so I don't want them to remake it. If it is a second ESO MMO with no disruption to the first and a different team then that's ok.

Do you think Microsoft will SUPPORT ZOS making an ESO 2. Microsoft Games aren't taking over development, they're only becoming the new Publisher and financial backer. ZOS has to both decide and prove that a second ESO is warranted and viable. Right now? No it's not. ESO is still playable, work on improving performance is ongoing, and new content updates can continue being provided (sold) every quarter.

You don't see a World of Warcraft 2 after all these years.

Yeah, every attempt at a new "hardcore pvp/high-end-raider centric" MMO has crashed and burned, from what I recall. If MS were to make an ESO2 (at some distant point in the future, since this game is still going fine), it would be another get-as-many-players-as-we-can cash cow.

And I never claimed that you did. There are plenty of people in all of the threads related to this sale who are acting as if they will be. I didn't call you or anyone else out specifically. Regardless, it's unlikely that there will ever be another ES mmo. Financially, there is no reason for them to do it.

The decision makers at Microsoft have probably never heard of ESO, let alone any interest in it, it will be a small number on a spreadsheet.

It's not like Bill Gates has bought it so he can buff his Templar toon.

PvP as it is now is already 90% of the time a horrible experience, and I have to purposefully transition into a dedicated zone to participate. If they made a more PvP catered game such as having overworld PvP where questers had to constantly look over their shoulders and get relentlessly ganked, I wouldn't even bother spending the cash to try it.

Bill Gates hasn't had any real hands on involvement with Microsoft for a very long time. He still owns a large amount of shares but isn't a decision maker in the same way he used to be, and has been stepping off more and more since 2008. He is purely focused on philanthropic endeavours nowadays. I doubt he even cares about the acquisition other than it just means more money to pour into the Bill and Melinda foundation as share values increase which translates into more vaccines, medical aid, and educational enhancement and opportunities. That said, it would be cool if he did main magplar and thought the aoe tests were killing his class which spurned him to take it to the board 😂

This is about bolstering MSFT in terms of exclusive games as well as their game subscription service. The studio will generally be left to manage things however they want. But it means things like Elder Scrolls 6 is likely only on PC/Xbox and won't be on PS4/5.

This could be of benefit to those that play both PC/Xbox because many MSFT games have it where if you buy it on one, you get it on the other for free. They are also working on where you can be playing in one game on the PC and then switch to Xbox and pick up where you left off.
