Why would Microsoft do this? It would cause so much ill feeling, that it’s not like many PS4/PS5 players would rush out and get an xbox as a result, let alone be willing to both spend all that money and have to start the game from scratch again. So they would be losing a large portion of their income from the game, for little to no benefit.

You have to remember that as much as people call it a console ‘War’, Microsoft and Sony don’t see it that way. They are not trying to put each other out of business, they are are simply out to make as much money as possible.
