Now this deal happens with XBOX and no one knows if ESO will be on PS5...
So can you be clear?

Thanks

I want to take this moment to reassure the entire Elder Scrolls Online community that ESO will continue to be supported exactly as it was, and we fully expect it to keep growing and thriving on each of the platforms that are currently supported.

Doesn't say anywhere it will be on the PS5... so I'm still confused.

Pretty sure they have made alot of progress to the port to PS5, scrapping that would be a waste of spent money.

So again question not answered it says platforms "currently" supported currently we have ps4 as ps5 isn't even out yet this could easily be a sugary way of saying that it won't launch on ps5 and be left to die on ps4 as progress marches forward. Kinda like destiny on the ps3 and ps4 one got left behind after a certain point. So a clearer answer than a vague letter and a tweet may need some much more in detail explanation!

"The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation®5!

We are thrilled to announce that if you currently own or plan to purchase an Xbox One or PS4 copy of The Elder Scrolls Online between now and the launch of ESO’s next-gen version for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation®5, you can upgrade free to that version of the game. We do not yet have a planned release date for the upgraded version of ESO, but stay tuned!

In addition to this, we also plan to support backward compatibility. What does this mean, exactly? We’re working hard so that when the Xbox Series X and PlayStation®5 launches, if you are a PS4 or Xbox One player, you can continue playing with your same accounts via backward compatibility on your respective next-gen consoles without interruption or loss of progress--same characters, servers, everything!

We can’t wait to share more information about The Elder Scrolls Online on the new consoles, so keep an eye out as we take Tamriel to the next gen!"

The deal isn't going to be finalized until 2021. The PS5 launches in 2020 with ESO. Don't worry.

Yes, but is ESO launching with the PS5? or after the PS5? or After the Deal is signed?
Do you happen to know the release date of ESO PS5? that might clear up some things.

ESO is a current game. Even if they make a slightly-better-than-backward-compatible-PS4 version for PS5, it's still not a "new" game.

edit: and even if they somehow didn't make a PS5 edition of the ESO client, it'll still run the PS4 version "backward compatible", so you'd still be able to play with your girlfriend on your other console.

I understand that, but again their words threw me off, like " you can upgrade free to that version of the game" ...so what version are they talking about? and why call it an UPGRADE? if its just backward compatible.. ?

From what I understand, the backward-compatible versions of ESO will be enhanced. Native versions will follow later. The question is whether there will be a true PS5 version. The fact that it will already be in development is no confirmation. The sunk costs mean little to Microsoft. It’s pocket change. ESO PS5 will only happen if it suits Microsoft and the Xbox brand. And that remains to be seen.

I see it as "Playstation" being the platform and PS5 being the latest console for that platform.

The PS5 players are going to play with PS4 players, so there's no reason to NOT have ESO on the PS5.

Dude they have already said it will be available on ps5. There is nothing to worry about. They are not making a new eso, it is the same game. Ps5 has already stated that it will also have backwards compatibility. Zos says it will be supported on all the current platforms to next gen. Everything is going to be okay.

    I asked Finn on Twitter and he said, and I quote;

    "I wouldn't worry about it :)"

and he linked the original article about the PS5 upgrade.

So, I daresay we are fine.

It's not a different game on PS5, you can just play the PS4 version, they are working to get it compatible is all. There might be some graphical improvements (hopefully it will run in 4K on PS5 as standard) but I wouldn't hope for much more than that. So you'll be using the same account, and playing on the same servers. So yes you'll be able to play with people on PS4. That's my understanding of it.

As for the long term picture of elder scrolls on PS, we'll have to wait and see. This deal doesn't finalise until second half of 2021 anyway, but I hope MS don't make elder scrolls 6 an xbox/PC exclusive...

There's no reason for ESO not to be on PS5.

ESO is a cash cow. The more players that have access to it, the more profits MS get. Restricting it to PC/Xbox only at this point in time doesn't make financial sense.

Making a new game exclusive to Xbox (or limited time exclusive) does make sense, but not an established game, 7 years (at the point of sale) into it's life, that is raking in money.

Console exclusivity is cancer. Way more cancer than anything you see on PC, plus you add in having to pay per month to even play online, like why put yourself through that?

I never said I had a dilemma. You are assuming that I do. I have no issue with playing on a console, but you clearly do. Also I don't pay month by month. I buy a one year subscription. I also don't have to upgrade my console every 2 years because it is outdated like PC. I don't have to buy expensive graphics cards too. Why pay thousands of dollars to have a pc that needs to constantly be upgraded?

How about the fact that it's a constant drain that many console players can't afford, to continually upgrade a PC so that it can play a particular new release?? I stopped playing on PC when my children were born and I then got a mortgage.

Why would they want to make less money?

As I mentioned in another thread "a somewhat improved PS5 version of the ESO client, instead of just running the PS4 version via backward compatibility!" is NOT a system seller. Brand new exclusive games are. Just like with Minecraft (which MS continued to spread to Even More Platforms), there's literally no reason at all for MS to not want to keep the money flowing from ESO.

It says ESO will be supported exactly as it is. One cannot get more specific than that without detailing every aspect of the game.

ESO will continue to work on PlayStation.
