There needs to be a comprehensive questline covering all BG match types before anyone can join a BG match.

This would require the palyers to play and understand them. The reality is that the questline will tell players to stay there and tehy will stay there, it doesnt mean that they will end up staying there in reality too.

Can you queue for "Deathmatch Only?"

Seems like lots of folks seem to have that as their goal, regardless of the "official" nature of the particular match.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

You can, but the queue times are long as it is. Waiting for a specific thing like this is just as bad as queuing for a dungeon as solo DPS.

It seems like relatively few players actually enjoy BGs, they just do it for the rewards. Trying to incentivize people to do unpopular content with rewards leads to people just wanting to get through it with as little effort/pain as possible to move on to content they actually do like.

Some of the matches are not crystal clear on the rules of the match except death match. I heard their returning group ques to BG which I feel is a mistake; they should add a third objective orientated match and open ONLY group cues death matches.

In other games, I have seen the complainer who was telling everyone else what to do drop the group and with the replacement, the team turned around and won the match. I never understood how they played while typing so much.

This does not happen in ESO BGs because the GF is bad at backfilling incomplete teams.

In fairness to the “idiots” there seems to be an assumption with online PVP that you already know what the various game types are, and the strategies needed to play them well. It’s one thing being told the basic premise of the game, it’s another to know the strategies involved in being successful. Even if you ask/look for help, you more often than not get referred back to previous games (“Oh it’s like such and such mode from Call of Duty”). Which is absolutely no help to anyone who hasn’t played such games.

So yes, some more info provided to those that aren’t familiar with online PVP would be extremely helpful.

    Good post.

Because in my experience it was premade teams that ignored the objectives more than randoms did.

Group queue was extremely unfair against solo players, so it should never return. ZOS should make roles more important in BG's though.

In BG's I have noticed that it is mostly those screaming others are doing something wrong, who are the ones doing something wrong. Or even doing anything at all besides typing, instead of BGing. More often it is those thinking they know what they are doing, that mess up a BG for others. Had they helped instead of typing, those BG's could have been won.

Players leaving when you are just a few points behind the other team(s) also mess up BG's, as with 3 players it is hard to make a comeback.

Yeah TBF you are bang on, I'd just like to see both I think, so we had a choice

Solo queue left as is, and a group queue seperatly maybe with registered teams for a leaderboard and stuff but I know that's very unlikely lol!

OP I personally find that most folk DO KNOW how to play the other BG game modes but refuse to follow the objectives.

"Oh look, I just got 25 kills in Chaos Ball" [snip]

Most folk that play BGs are selfish and just want to do well themselves.

If players geared up for more support roles then there would be more cohesion ... sadly this isn't the case so it's something you're just going to have to deal with I'm afraid.

This is what you get with non persistent BG's and beancounter design. Unfortunately IC is not to my liking. Too bad we cannot have multiple persistant BG's like in DAoC where we had a /levelstop which stopped your leveling so if you wanted to stay in the level 20-24 BG you could do it. I miss Thidranki, and Molvik BG's.

Too bad the game is dated / dead.

This is not ignorance. This is quite intentional. It seems to be a big thing for people to enter the battleground and attempt to achieve X kills with 0 deaths. Which leads to one (or more) players focusing on playing death match while the rest of the team is trying to achieve the objective. By preying on the weak and unaware, they rack up their kill count to 0 deaths then brag about it alone. I think one person was claiming 68 kills with 0 deaths at one point.

I agree that it takes the fun out of playing battlegrounds. That is why I rarely play bg any more. But it is within the rules of the game, so no much you can do about it. I suppose I could try to rally the team into ganging up and killing the one trying to play death match. I find that usually after a death, they quit the bg (because they no longer have their perfect score). Usually I just warn the other team members about the ganker, wish them luck, and say goodbye.

I have seen some suggest an option to vote to kick like in dungeons. Since they already have the basic concept worked out in dungeons, they would have to adapt it for the battleground groups. It would give teams a way of getting rid of problems on their team, but what about when your team is the victim? You will obviously not be able to kick someone from another team (but would be nice sometimes). So some other type of objective system has to be developed.

I would think that this can be cut out of the game by making a few simple rules changes in the battleground system. There is already a system in place where if a player remains idle (not moving) for a certain amount to time, they get kicked from the battleground. Maybe if that were expanded to include if a player has not assisted in achieving the objective for X amount of time, they are also kicked. For example if a player is just ganking to get a high kill rate, but not going into dangerous places like taking objectives, they are automatically kicked for not be a team participant.

We know they keep track of every player's location every moment in the game. The ganker who mows down individual players on their way to chasing the chaos ball, but never getting close enough to engage themselves (and is not actively healing), gets booted for not being a team player. The ganker who tries to roam around to get kills but never help capture a flag objective gets booted after X amount of time, again for not being a team player. The person not near the relic (defending), and has not attempted to get close to an enemy relic would get removed. This would at least force everyone on the team to participate to some degree.

Um . . . so the players who spend hours a day getting 30-50 kills to 0 deaths have low such a low MMR they are stuck with me? Or maybe I finally got my MMR up into a range I get stuffed in with them. Which is more likely?? Proved killer vs armature player. Who has the higher MMR?
