Key Fragments Make No Sense...

I've never bothered with key fragments. Imagine my surprise when simply walking into the vault room magically converts all of my fragments into multiple keys without even the slightest hint that it will happen. Then imagine my surprise when ZOS made it so the keys are specific to the vault you go in. So I now have a dozen keys that are of absolutely no value. There needs to be some warning to the player that they're about to do something that can't be taken back. It shouldn't just automatically do it to 15 stacks of fragments upon entering a vault.

Even novice game designers don't make mistakes like this.

Did you prefer as it was before every vault had there own specific key fragment? I cant remember the detail as i went to ic twice before the change
The first was on release date with a lv45 character(pre-one tamriel player will know hom much of a chance that character had to survive aggaint mostly anything) seccond was my first real try with a new cp112 characters so i didnt farmed those fragment myselfbut from what i recall any could drop from any source current fragment could multiplying farm time by a lot if you were unlucky

Yeah before the change I ( as AD ) had to go to the DC sewers and farm there for Willpower keys

Though it's true that some kind of alert wouldn't be bad at all, I have to agree that the old system was crap... placing your key fragments in the bank so they don't get blasted when you enter a vault seems to be the way to go.
    PC NA @cnyanes
    Cin'onyx - Khajiit Werewolf Nightblade
Clothe Senay - Breton Vampire Sorcerer
    Dannelen Deldúwath - Dunmer Dragonknight
    Shuzug gro-Bharg - Orsimer Templar
    Nathsandra Rivervale - Bosmer Warden
    Heals-All-Creatutres (Hest-Leel) - Argonian Templar
Ancarion Larethion - Altmer Vampire Necromancer
    Jair Ababneh - Redguard Nightblade
Olfina the White - Nord Werewolf Dragonknight
    Teo Moslin - Imperial Warden

I tend to keep them on a particular character who doesn't PvP or go to IC so I don't even go into a vault with keys "by accident"

Yes it's frustrating, but the old system was worse.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Old system was a pain and add to an already lacking inventory system.

I've only been playing about 10 months now so I'm not at all familiar with the old system. However, it makes the current system that much more disheartening knowing that this is supposed to be the better system. The fact that the chests are in unique instances likely means we don't even need unique keys for unique chests. Just a generic key for all of them.

But there are countless way they could have done this.

1.) No unique keys at all.
2.) A vendor to buy unique keys with fragments.
3.) No need for fragments at all and just let us buy keys with Tel Var.
4.) How about a tip on the loading screen for ICP and WGT saying how the fragments work?

That took me all of 30 seconds to come up with. I'm not sure how we ended up with what we have now.

I'm resurrecting this thread to say this behavior sucks. I had a big stack of key fragments and was going to finish my achievement. Not knowing this behavior, it made like 6 Legionary Chest keys upon entering the first vault.

PLEASE change this to where ONE key is assembled when entering the vault (or ideally when activating the chest). No need for separate fragments.

This exact thing happened to me as I planned to go to each of the vaults - but the first one screwed me completely.

ZOS added too much too fast, and didnt think about every little detail, so they could stand to update a lot of things. Maybe one of these days we can get a quality of life update and not a rush to puke out a new chapter.

They WANT the chest - but they DONT want all of their fragments turned into useless keys for THAT chest upon entering. Nowhere in the game is this noted or explained until its too late and hours worth of game time is wasted due to a poorly designed system. Of course, you already know all that - you just wanted to leave a baited reply, classy.

I think the easiest way they could do this would be to have no unique keys at all, and only consumes fragments when you open the chest, not when you enter the room.

when i used to save key frags i would put them in a storage chest in my house, and when i wanted to go into a vault i would get the specific amount of keys i needed for the amount of times to open the chest, and then go to the vault

nowadays i dont hardly keep any keys because i sell them all for like 600g each lol
