Though it's true that some kind of alert wouldn't be bad at all, I have to agree that the old system was crap... placing your key fragments in the bank so they don't get blasted when you enter a vault seems to be the way to go.
I'm resurrecting this thread to say this behavior sucks. I had a big stack of key fragments and was going to finish my achievement. Not knowing this behavior, it made like 6 Legionary Chest keys upon entering the first vault.
PLEASE change this to where ONE key is assembled when entering the vault (or ideally when activating the chest). No need for separate fragments.

There needs to be some warning to the player that they're about to do something that can't be taken back. It shouldn't just automatically do it to 15 stacks of fragments upon entering a vault.
