I hate Imperial City on general principle and because my last time there was... a pretty terrible experience. Even realizing going in that it would be a terrible experience.

That being said, I held my nose and went in this time because I figured a quick district daily in a campaign where my alliance looked strongest would be faster than a dungeon run.

And I have at least two positive takeaways, as a casual PvE carebear in a cruel PvP world.

The first was total joy in finding a campaign early yesterday morning where my alliance had all districts under control and kept them under control (mostly). That actually, finally, allowed me to actually complete the quest lines in each district plus the overall PvE storyline - something I never, ever thought would happen. Was just lucky and good timing, like getting the skyshards in Cyrodiil behind the enemy gates. It also allowed me to rack up pre-done district dailies that I can just pop in, hand in, and immediately leave again for the next few days.

The second was the one time during all that questing when red got enough of a group together to battle for control of Elven Gardens. I was LITERALLY on the final "you can tell you are turning in the main quest and finishing it for that district" part of the district story. And ZOS, in its infinite wisdom, decided to place that turn-in in a sewer underneath the flag area folks stand on to claim the district. Of course, there is a group of EP standing there (I'm AD). I make it a point to avoid them and go around just desperately trying to get into the quest door. But because I am taking damage, I am locked out from interacting with the door. Despite the fact that I am standing right next to a quest door down in a ditch with my shield up, OF COURSE all the EP drop down from the flag and 10-to-1 slaughter me even though I didn't attack, was clearly by a quest door, and had my shield up because "LoL KiLl ThE yElLoW PvE PlAyEr I sO SkIlLeD!"

As I lay there contemplating my options - do I attempt to revive somewhere else and try to run back in to the slaughter? Do I leave and try to turn in the quest another day, even though I was ONE STEP AWAY from finishing it and moving on with the PvE storyline? - I notice someone wanting to revive me. I'm shocked. How, in a sea of red, is there a yellow reviving me? But I accept it gratefully and it looked like they had maybe also been questing and stepped outside from the quest door to see my corpse laying there... so close, but yet so far... and took pity on the poor quester, revived me, and then surely went upstairs to slaughter.

It was just enough to squeeze me in the door and hand in the quest. And was literally the difference between me completing the entire IC storyline or not yesterday. That one random act of kindness felt so wonderful.

Here we go again, a PvE'er complaining about PvP in a PvP zone during a PvP event.

Now imagine PvP players complaining about PvE in a PvE zone during a PvE event - which is literally all other events except Midyear - and the fact that they cannot kill players there! That's what you sound like!

This is why no one goes to the sewers. Because you think killing someone as soon as they tag a boss is PVP.

If you just want your tickets and gold loot box,you can get it pretty easy, jsut takes a little longer.Just goto arena area, get quest, and stay at the area on top, don't go off platform. There's always ppl to save by killing dremora, jsut takes longer, but alot less worries about dying. Also, jsut dump your telvar as often as possible, and atleast if smeone kills you, they get almost nothing.

meanwhile... I'm still cracking up over my experience yesterday, when I was running out of time to do WGT, so I went to do arena quest. there were other faction zergs, plural in there. and I ran into them couple of times... and was left alone?

like one person half heartedly swung at me, but I just kept running and they didn't chase me.

to the point where I ended up having to switch districts looking for another zerg to kill me to death travel after my quest was done (what, i'm lazy and death ports are faster then even queuing up for cyro, then back to IC.)

its the most bizzare thing. one time I want to be killed... and I'm left alone. thank you though :P tells me that plenty of people DO leave questers alone after all :)

'nope'...unless you like waiting in line or taking a tv set to the face.

Same goes for PVP during an event. You enter at your own risks and perils ;)

You don't seem to stop to amaze.

The imperial city event is a PvP event and it has been that since it was first held. Today it also just happens to drop tickets, but all events do that since they were introduced quite late into the game. Tickets are not bound to PvP or PvE events nor are they the main reward of this event (which is fun and tel var).

If you want to do a boring PvE event where you repeat the same quest for the 400th time, you will have to wait a bit. For now you can repeat WGT. But leave us have one of the only PvP events in the game.

You mean instead of boring pvp events where you have to complete the same quests again and again but with added in avoiding zerg balls? You know I always find it funny when pvp players claim pve is boring yet they're in a game that is more pve focused and seriously there are other games far better for competitive gameplay.

The event questers are very easy to spot. They look very out of place, to be honest. My policy is to leave those folks alone, as they are no real threat to me. I have seen some panic, and start running around in circles and then try to hit me or cast on me.... but I usually just hold block or cloak away, depending on what character I’m playing. It’s the ones charging at me from 50 yards away and buffing up on the way that I try to close on (if the gap closer is actually working, lol).

I know how frustrating it can be. Having all dailies ready but one, which I may need to plant one last geode but an enemy faction controls the zone and keeps zerging me every time I get near the skeleton workers is aggravating as hell. Especially when you have 10 minutes before reset and don’t want to pop your xp scroll until they are all ready to hand in! But along with the frustration comes some of the best satisfaction you can get in the game. Working with your team to take and hold flags in epic battles is exhilarating! Some hate these events, but I love them!

    Just to share my routine:
    1. Turn in 1-2 of the dailies done beforehand.
    2. Pick whatever dailies there are to pick.
    3. Go to Arena - this is the 'guaranteed' daily I pick and do, just in case it's too uncomfortable to get into the districts. There are spawn points you can poke from base exit, and they respawn pretty fast. If it's quiet - just jump into the district.
    4. Try to do the dailies you picked earlier
    5. The fun part: lfg or just find a group and tag along. This will also get you some event boxes from mobs, bosses and chests while you are running around.

There are ppl in "wild hunt mode" who try to kill anything that moves
There are ppl who won't care for a solo enemy unless they attack
There are ppl who will help you with a boss regardless of your alliance

Just leave your base with the thought that you're already dead and treat every minute you're not as a bonus. And don't forget to bank your tel vars and that queuing for empty Cyro campaign is a fine alternative to retreat sigils.

Well said. This is the routine I use as a PvE player. That and I built a Bow/2H Vamp Stamblade wearing Darloc Brae :D Easy peasy. Be a pessimist, expect to die, understand PvP is focussed on killing you and not everyone plays the way you do. It's all about getting your tickets and 1 daily coffer.

If you are not a PvP player, planning to get rich on Tel Var/Motifs etc, is going to make you miserable. Have a laugh when they only get 18 Tel var off your corpse and be glad of a quick port home. Rejoice that the price of Xivkyn motifs and Style pages is freefalling in the guild stores. With a sneaky build, I'm getting credit for Boss kills merely by hiding in the background and doing one snipe, if its enemy players hitting it. Then hide in the corner and wait for the blue flash of your screen that tells you it's dead. If you are tempted to take a shot at an enemy player, accept the hell that could rain down on you. Stay out of choke points and run along the sides of tunnels.

If all this seems unfair to you, it's not, it is just how the other side plays. It is a tiny zone, PvE has the rest of Cyrodiil and all other events barring MYM. I now know what actions are getting me killed. I have the right equipment, I am a poor pvp player but it is taking slightly longer to kill me and sometimes I'm even escaping. Speaking for myself, the more I play, the more fun I'm having, regardless of how quick I die.

As a old PvP player I salute you! This is how every PvP player started. By being cunning and smart, you don't have to be best PvPer to feel the thrill of victory. Sometimes getting away is more rewarding than the kill, one day you may even get rage whisps because you are so good at escaping :) Have fun, and let the tel vars flow! :)
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

Welp your ad doesn't even mentioned getting ganked or blown up by a bomber. So, sorry, but it doesn't sell this event and I'm not porting to IC.

Seriously though, if you stick to a city zone that your faction controls, you shouldn't have to make too many attempts to get one daily done and there's your box. The dailies are very quick quests really.

And if you get stomped and/or steamrolled - and we've all been there - it's a quick release to get you back to the starting platform or the base. No big deal.

Still much quicker than an IC dungeon.

IC gameplay has real risk - something that is sadly lacking in a lot of this game. To me, that does add a lot of fun. Throw in Telvar - especially Telvar that WAS being carried by another player lol-, and key fragments and you can definitely make this event pay you for your time. I should also mention the IC antiquities leads that have dropped for me this event. No ganker can take those from you.

The purple boxes seem to drop OK for me too. So, yep, the event is pretty fun.

The only real issue I have with this event is the GA lag - that certainly can detract.

No, that's wrong. We are not focused on doing these dailies, we play PvP all night long and somewhere in between a daily will be completed when you picked up enough of them.

And with avoiding zerg balls? No zerg balls are good for kills. If there are too many players in it you can simply lure them into one of the houses until the group is not too big to take on. This is exactly why a lot of PvP'ers like the IC, the zone suits fast battles and rewards making use of the environment.

What does it matter anyway that this game is more PvE focused?? That is a fallacy. Your last statement is wrong too. Because of the fast paced, high actions per minute and no cooldowns it makes it one of the best MMO's for PvP. No queuing up the same skills in the same rotation as everyone of your class does in some other MMO's. Btw most PvP players were once PvE but have already seen all of that.

So my point still stands, instead of having these boring repetitive PvE events where you grind the same quest for the 400th time, here you have an evening full with diversity because every fight is different. You would know if you have tried PvP once.

I do not like PvP but on the first day I did go into IC. I got my Tickets, Gold Box (including a Style Page) but it took me forever.

Since then, I have pugged WGT - twice on vet, the rest on normal. Each day I have got my Tickets, Gold box & 3 or 4 Purple boxes from either Mini Bosses, Treasure Chests or Mobs.

I have had at least 1 Style Page every day but usually 2 or 3, albeit a fair few were duplicates.

If one goes early in the day, WGT on normal is very quick and there are no long waiting times for the Dungeon finder - only 1 - 3 minutes.

At the end, I come out with more Tel-Var than I would in IC - to keep me self-sufficient in Hakeijo for the foreseeable future - and without any frustrations or stress.

For PvE ers, I would recommend WGT over IC's Dailies.

You get TELVAR... which ... has a few things you can buy!

And those few things happen to be some of the most sought after items in the game. For just 500 TelVar, you can get an Alchemy satchel which may have
    - Cornflower
    - Clam Gull
    - Mother Pearl thing from Summerset
    - Other alchemy mats

Why would you ever run around Summerset looking at the beaches when you can just farm TelVar and get more Powdered Mother Pearls in one day than you would a whole week? Plus Hakeijo's as well, which are an instant sell. There is a reason some of the richest people in the games religiously farm IC for TelVar.
