Does Character Creation Need Updated? Why or why not?

So, in your opinion, does character creation need updated?

In my opinion it does. The character creation screen suffers from
Some dated design that can impact the creative process.

1. It’s so dark. I find that a lot of the time my skin colors I choose or facial features look different because they’re created in that dark dungeon of a room.

2. More options for armor. Right now we can only pick 3 different gear options for viewing on the character. But, only sorc shows robes. It would be nice if we could see the character in basic, light, medium, and heavy armors to get an idea of how the different scales of character appear depending on the route we intend to make the character.

3. Any cosmetics such as earned/ purchased hairstyles, tattoos, etc. should be able to be placed on character.

I hate creating a character and having it look completely different in the main game. ESO certainly isn't the only game with this problem though.

I would love to see some form of measurement so I can see just how tall (or short) my new character will be. My stamsorc looked about the right height on screen, but ended up being too short and I can't afford to buy an appearance change.

    Definitely so for the reasons stated above as well as the following;
    • Option to preview vampire stages and how they affect body markings and tattoos, as well as seeing how the overall character looks.
    • Adjustments for more hair colors that are both lore friendly to the races that we see in game, why can't Altmer have black hair?
    • An option to 'save' presets without committing to the character, that way when we're kicked back to login due to taking so long (I personally get hung up on names which is where I get booted), we don't lose everything.
    • Maybe lore friendly racial name generators, but there's already an abundance online (options are however nice).

Sometimes the character you make, doesn't translate over the the actual game looking the same way. I've had to delete quite a few characters after making them because they didn't look right.

I absolutely agree that any purchased or unlocked cosmetic collectibles should be able to be chosen when creating a character, but one other thing is names; Instead of checking to see if a name is available only after "finishing character creation", can we have a little green check next to the name box if available, red x if it isn't?

Yes, update the lighting (a toggle for different lighting conditions would be nice), and have all the hair, eye and "human" skin colors (not altmer and dunmer obv) unlocked. It's the least they could do.

Is it too much to ask to have the same lighting and Field of View in Chargen as in the game?

Or, let us tweak the character before leaving the tutorial, after we have had a time to see the whole thing in game.

Also like to see racial armors instead of the latest xpac stuff. It was weird making an orc and having the kajhiti type stuff on.

My beautiful Breton females are indeed beautiful, but the mouth height, chin size, eye height, forehead slope, eye separation, nose options, and other sliders make too little of a difference.

Also you can tell where they messed up the skin in some places while designing costumes or outfits.

You can see where they used a blur tool to cover up those mistakes.

A few more polygons on the thighs, elbows and knees would be nice.

So that there is no clipping happening.

    It's dated.

    Simple as that.

I loved that feature in Oblivion (honestly I wish it had been in Skyrim too). I kinda struggle with character creation, so I like to have another chance to touch them up. Actually, I agree with most of these suggestions. ESPECIALLY the lighting one. It’s waaay too dark.

    Things ZOS should consider adding:
    • taking your character for a test drive before finalizing
    • more depth to the hairstyle creation (different coloured highlights, more base colours within reason, mix and match different parts of different hairstyles, add hooded-look so our characters don't go bald and we can customize the way they look when wearing certain hats and hoods)
    • option to mirror scars, tattoos, bodypaint etc if we'd simply like them to be on the other side
    • adjustable tail-length and type for Argonians and Khajiit
    • choosable background/upbringing -
this is a tricky one because it threatens to break with the tradition of the character always being a blank prisoner, but it could be used to determine starting location/tutorial, while also giving new players to the franchise more info on what is actually going on in the world. The reason the character is always a prisoner is to not shoehorn your character into anything, but add two to four backgrounds for each race, which are essentially just writing and maybe determine your starting weapon should you skip the tutorial, it really isn't a lot of work to implement.

If they were to give it a major overhaul I would expect at the bare minimum a few free appearance change tokens, doubt they would ever give us as many as we have characters but 3 or so free ones would be nice like they did with race and name change tokens awhile ago.

Or more character slots to buy in the crown store.

    • Allow account bought items into it.

Agree with almost all of the suggestions. One of my pet peeves is the inability to tweak before leaving the tutorial. How many times have you made what you thought was a good-looking character who doesn't translate well into the actual game? Or how many times have you made a character and then you take her into combat and her voice turns out to be absolutely appalling?

The other is the inability to use any of the hairstyles, adornments etc that you bought in character creation. Some hairstyles totally change your hair colour, like the Seafarer's Crowning Trim - I wouldn't have taken white hair if I knew that when I put on that hairstyle my lovely pure white tresses would turn the colour of a dingy used mop. I need to be able to test all of my options to be sure that I've found exactly the right combination. On the bright side, if we have the option to tweak before exiting the tutorial we can get around this.

The CC is pretty good but as mentioned by many others it could use an update.
    • Different lightning options. This is a major issue which has stayed throughout all the various CC backgrounds from chapters. Let us be able to switch between some options to check how skintones etc look in various light.
    • More angles to look at the character. It can be damn hard determine how some proportions look with the very set field of view we have right now.
    • Height measurement. I'm more than fine with the races having specific heights, but it would be nice with some indicator to tell how tall a character is. It doesn't have to be specified in cm or inches, just some 1-20 or whatever.
    • A second final adjustment after you've seen the character in game, or the option to look at the character moving around with ingame camera view.
    • Better armour preview options.
    • Scars being seperate from body/face markings.
    • And the oddest one I've discovered through all the alts I've made - Inner eyebrow lifting option for all. This is a bizzare thing that only exist for male Redguards. If you slide the Eye Height to the right, you will notice that a big chunk of that part of the slider will lift the inner part of the eyebrows aswell. Something that is very noticeable and nice on all the eyebrows we have which are looking way too angry. *

    * Here are two pictures to show the eyebrow thing.
    Default angry looking eyebrows.
    UzLKXmJ.png
Inner eyebrows lifted as high as possible with Eye Height
    GfIJemQ.png
It's not a massive thing, but it's still darn weird you can only do it on male redguards.

Some other options that I personally would like added:
    • An undo button. (Move my little triangle slider, DO NOT LIKE, good luck getting it back right where I had it)
    • Numerical data for each slider. Please stop making me count clicks. Just tell me what number it is. Please.
    • Separate some categories, like separating scars and makeup (and then makeup separated further).

Kind of related but not exactly...let us recolor adornments. Stop tying them to hair color and let us dye them in the outfit station.

Agree with all of the above suggestions. I especially like the idea of an Oblivion style option to tweak your character before starting the game proper. This would be especially useful for people like me who forget to do basic things like choose an Alliance and a voice, sometimes even a class :D . I've lost count of how many toons I've created and then immediately deleted because I forgot something important or they looked weird. We absolutely should be able to use all of our store-bought items too, I'm confused that this isn't already a thing tbh. And the light is horrible, pretty much always has been - remember Morrowind CC? *shudders*...

And we really do need to be able to save whilst editing, I created the most beautiful Breton boy, answered the phone and when I got back just minutes later, my boy was gone, lost forever to data heaven and try as I might, I've never been able to re-create him. Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration since the characters do tend to look alike, but you get my point.

And for those saying there are more important issues/bugs etc, of course there are, but ZoS does have more than 2 employees you know. These are just some cool ideas for QoL improvements in the future.

The lighting definitely needs a fix. I wish they'd just use the exact same lighting and environment as the character select screen.

They also need to get rid of gender locks on everything. I mean *everything*. Let people have bearded ladies if they want, it's not game-breaking. Let us put nice earrings on guys. Let me pick a non-gorilla-looking skin for my pretty Breton man. Nobody cares if giant orcs are running around wearing wedding gowns, that's been a thing for forever, so it's time to just unlock it all.

Ha, you should have seen back in the day when the character creation screen was in your cell in Coldharbour, now that was dark. Back then your characters would always look completely different in game. I made an Argonian thinking he was tan with blue stripes, he turned out to be dark brown with green stripes. That's why I took to the habit of designing all of my characters on PTS first, that way I can tweak them to be just how I want them before making them on live.

The problem, of course, with adding new customization options to the character creation screen is that unless they give 1 appearance change token per character slot to every player it will be completely unfair to older players, who will have to buy tokens if they want to use the features on their existing characters.
