Psijic Order quests are pure mental torture

I don't know whose idea this quest chain was, but I'd like a word with them. What ever made anyone think sending players around from zone to zone to zone multiple times in a row to do the same exact thing over and over and over would be a fun experience? They couldn't have made it more tedious if they tried.

But one of the worst parts for me was that you would be prompted to use the auger, then have to find a portal that could be anywhere in a huge area, with absolutely no hint as to which direction you should go until you eventually get lucky and find it. Seriously?

Anyone else find this as bad as I did?

Why are we complaining about something added to the game over two years ago? Zos did not change the awful appearance of Nocturnal they are certainly not going to change that quest line.
    '
BTW, it is about the dialogue, not the actual travels and the dialogue is quite funny at times. After that it is a very fast grind.

Because I wasn't playing 2 years ago and this is new to me, as it will be to many new and returning players.

Yeah thank god that skull had some good jokes or this quest line would have been awful.

Interestingly enough that last couple of quests you could tell even the developers and programmers were getting tired of running all over Tamriel and started dropping the portals right next to wayshrines or in a more logical path from wayshrine to wayshrine. The first could of quests though they really have you running all over.

It's just there to pad out the game hours. The jokes are also annoying when you've done it multiple times. It's REALLY annoying because the prompt dismounts you and prevents you from jumping while it's on the screen.

Hm. It's tedious for sure. However, Mages Guild without the use of an add-on is the real nightmare, I think.

Um. The Augur usually gives a pretty good hint of where the rifts are when you activate him in the blob. I maybe had trouble finding one or two out of all of them (the first time).

If you are on PC, I believe the Destinations addon has a filter for the rifts, if that helps.

Lol. Often the same people complaining about the Psijic “grind” claim to LOVE Antiquities - when they are both really just mediocre re-hashed uses of existing assets / content / zones. Hmm...

That's funny because I do love Antiquities. I don't find it grindy at all because I only do it when I happen across a new lead. And I get some really nice furnishings from it.

I wasn't crazy about that quest line either. Aside from... I guess I should probably say spoiler or something so stop reading now if you care about that sort of thing - but aside from Darien (whose presence I always enjoy in the story) I really wasn't that entertained by any of the Summerset quests. A lot of people liked them - but I found it mostly just blah. I thought Elsweyr was miles better.

It's actually a great quest line from ZOS pov. Little effort programming it and quite a number of players will spend crowns to get the skill line instead of doing the quests on multiple characters.

Very fast? Very fast as as in what? I supposed most who do this "grind" today does so on a new character, and if they haven't already been to every zone for skyshards etc., it's certainly not a fast grind. A character with low mount speed, getting repeatedly knocked off their mounts, no or very few wayshrines available. I can't see how it's fast, but I guess it depends all on what you compare it with.

But on the other hand, you can "buy" it if you've already done it. And if you do it with a new character, just do it as you level up - instead of wasting braindead hours "dolmen grinding" or something like that. Get the skyshards, do all the delves/public dungeons, do scrying and lorebooks too if you need it. It takes much more time, yes - but then you are at least doing something constructive while leveling, and skip a LOT of the stuff you'd need to do when you are done with the stupid "xp farming".

    Ugh, yes, it's so tedious.

I've done it twice now, and the worst part? I'm probably going to do it again.

only twice, then at least 16x more to go...

Now getting to even start it is the boring bit, do the first 3 steps of the Summerset MQ

Well, if you are on PC get the Addon Map Pins and in options turn on the psijic tears/rifts. It will put a maker on the maps of where all the tears are or other pieces you have to collect.

It's entirely up to you how you do this, but I would not specifically start the Psijic quest before my horse has the required speed and stamina. The best way would be to have a group event where you clear the zone of skyshards, world bosses and rifts. It's a lot more fun than doing things on your own.

Slot maneuver/rapids and it will be kinda fast, if you're on pc use the addon mappins... Leveling Mages guild is a lot worse than this imo.

done about 20 times so far with various toons,my old ones had some books missing so i slowly found some of them
new toons discover the map and wayshrines plus many skyshards
    win-win

btw if you find the Psijic quests torture wait to start the Scrying and Excavation Skill Lines
on my second run i was stuck at L8 for a week cause there were no leeds drooping and i had visited Coldharbour 20 times to dig that golden leed there so i could level up

at least Psijic line can be done in 8-10 hours if you rush

I would recommend running skyreach/spell scar quests for it, a lot of daedra to be slaughtered.

Well.... it's not going to matter where I have to kill daedra, because I really don't like having to kill a bunch of ANYTHING for a guild to rank up.

MG on console isn’t as bad as it seems. Go download a companion app from either google or Apple and keep that alongside you when you play. Those will also have the more books, sky shards, world bosses, wayshrines, delves, doorman’s and other points of interest marked. They even have survey and treasure map locations all in one place so you don’t have to sit there googling everything to find the exact location.

With your companion app open you go to the in game map, set your waypoint manually and go. If you study the map for a few minutes you cannot a logical course around each zone to pick up all the books and skyshards you need while leveling. Yes chasing some kind of add on would be easier but this way is still just as efficient.

Also worth noting the companion apps will often tell you which books/shards are locked behind quest lines. You can avoid those if you wish to save time or look up the alternate locations to those books (yes books have alternate locations) except the books in Cyrodiil. Some you can find in DLC much easier than in the base game, so just be aware of this.

So anyhow console players, you aren’t screwed because of lack of add ons. You just need a better source/guide for the game. I paid for my companion app, but there was also a free version. I figured the guy curating the thing more than earned my $2 for the effort!

Yes, the Psijic and the Mage Guild quests are a grind, at least on console. I have done them on multiple characters, but must have a laptop or phone displaying a map with the locations next to me. With console you have no add on telling you on screen where to go, and wandering the map looking for all those portals and books is not fun for me.

    Having Rapid Maneuver unlocked helps.

I had the maps. It's still incredibly painful to look at the phone, set map marker, go there and find it. And that 200 times AT LEAST. No sugary way around it - it's a stupid grind symptomatic of our current games' designs to rob you of every last minute. Skyrim players absolutely hate the Barenziah crown quest - what in the world would bring a game developer to think that making that quest seven times harder would be good design?
