PVP Etiquette

I have been a mostly solo player to this point, cp637, but recently have started trying out pvp. I'm not very good, but figure if someone is targeting me during a siege I figure that's at least drawing fire from someone who knows what they are doing😁
The reason for this post is something I read on here. During a recent siege our side had put down about ten ballista. They were taking heavy fire, so I ran over and began alternating between a couple of them before being killed. I thought what I was doing was helping the team, but read on here in the post about sniping chests, that what I was doing was essentially the same as sniping chests. So I was wondering if some of you pvp vets would be willing to offer some basic etiquette tips for people who are new to pvp to avoid making these types of mistakes.

I always put like 3 ballista and yeah it annoys me if someone goes and fires them, cause it ruins my tempo you know. So buy own siege and quickslot it and use, use a lot :) but like when defending, i can put oils and i usually put on the chat "use my oils" or something. Like if someone says it's ok to use their siege, then of course you can.

    Siege Weapon Etiquette

#1 Bring your own Siege weapons. Seriously, its a great way to contribute to capturing/defending a keep and you can earn AP by hitting players.

#2 Don't use other people's siege weapons. If you do, do NOT sit on the siege weapon. Hop on and off so the owner can claim it back if necessary. The exception is if someone explicitly says "I'm putting down extra," as I commonly do when PUGing. Then, please, use the extra siege weapons. "Abandoned" siege weapons are riskier. Use you best judgment as to whether or not someone else was using it and, again, do not sit on the siege weapon so the owner can grab it back.

#3 Coldfire and the new lances are the most expensive siege weapons. Don't touch them if they aren't yours.

Others may have more to add or disagree where I draw the line.

Well people just don't like it when someone else takes their siege, but thats about it. Other than that I suggest you do what ever pleases your playstyle. You can also buy your own siege btw ;)

Oh and no Teabagging, unless you're british :D

In general, stay off of someone else's siege unless they ask you to use it. You're basically stealing kills from them in the case of anti-personnel siege, and you are also interrupting the flow of their placement and movement. For taking down doors/walls with trebs/ballistas, it's not as big of a deal, but it can still be annoying. I sometimes put a ballista down while on a ram for someone else, but I'll ask someone to grab it.

Sometimes during slow hours, you will happen upon a couple of people fighting with some other folks stacked around them and watching. They are probably dueling. Best to leave these folks alone and let them do their thing.

Don't gate camp or join in on a gate-camping zerg. This is not cool. It's basically taking the tri-keeps on a faction and planting outside the gates leading from the faction bases into Cyrodiil and killing everyone as they come in. It's like spawn camping on an epic scale, and it will cause people to get frustrated and log out. Then there is no more PvP, so it's not only unfair and uncool, but it's also boring.

Also dont just blindly set up your sieges. Put them as close together as possible. Keep in mind that even ground is sometimes rare, to more sieges can be set up the faster the keep will be taken.

    1. Don't steal sieges especially not the Coldfire ones.
    2. Don't run over a single person with 5 or more people.
    3. Don't teabag or you can go back to Fortnite, more fitting for your mental age.
    4. If you are grouped stay with your Crown.
    5. Don't chase players that try to lure you.

Besides that well, there are some things that you can do but you will get heavy disrespect for that, for example playing NB and only cloak, run and hit once, cloak, run and hit once, and repeat. Thats more annoying than dangerous.
Same if you use Snipe on the bow its propably the most disrespected skill out there, mainly because you can deal huge damage without being in danger and the skill is so buggy that you can hit people 10 times before they got any damage, which results in an insta death.
Petsorcs are also on a pretty low level of respect.

I will tell you I have seen people get on my siege as I pop off in between shots, keep buffs and heals up, and get back on; and I have watched many die because the enemy siege was hitting that area and the person not bother to even get off after a shot to heal. I left them lay dead each time. Sometimes; I am on a magplar and I do not heal them either.

This is nothing at all like chest sniping, many players lay down extra so PuGs can use them they are cheap and honestly are just left so you don’t waste time moving to the inner seconds matter a random ballista does not. This counts for all siege if you see a burning oil ready to go pour it and drop some more.

This doesn’t count for Coldfire I would be pissed if I wanted to pack up a Coldfire and someone was on it.

As for siege etiquette in general stopping/slowing the enemy’s siege is better they trying to kill players with siege. What I mean by that is targeting the player’s siege equipment is better then killing them. Siege is cheap on the whole, but you drop extra cause players are always forgetting to buy more. I can’t tell you how many times I solo defended Drake or BRK with three Coldfires all hitting one target.

That’s another thing if see friendly siege firing at one location with a siege engine join them 100% or 1% siege will do the same damage till it falls so focus on whatever others are focused on the faster they go down the better. Try to also put 2-3 ballistas down as close together as possible so you’re not waiting for a reload and close so you’re not wasting space.

Don't think someone puts sieges down for you, almost no one does that, you are stealing and disrupting the siege speed. 1 Player can operate 4 sieges with ease and if you just take one of them, you slow the siege down, since they are all timed to fire right after each other.

About oil no, don't touch oils that are not yours people want to time the oil drop to get all damage at once and not after each other, since you can purge and heal in between. If you touch someones oil and use it at once, you are the reason the zerg down there survives.

Besides that two things your text is correct.

I have been siege since day one I was a raid leader when our alliance won every campaign for nearly a year and we had to ask whole guilds to join AD and DC just to balance it out cause game health in PvP was going down hard.

PvP guilds are not good at taking keeps or holding the line. I was raid leading 3 hour defends for the last Emp keep or the holding the keystone keep to keep the gates closed. YOUR FLOW IS POINTLESS it’s all about the team period you see a random pug add them to group teach them and made SOTP for that very reason just to train the PuGs.

    Buy some basic siege,
For Attacking, Stone Trebs ( which do more damage but take longer ( 2 normal stone seige attacks ) to reset for the next attack/Stone Ballista can put 3 down close to each other for easy rotation

For defending, Fire Ballista/Meatbags/Scattershot/Oils, place the oils above the main gate of possible and the other siege firing at the breach, if possible use Lightning ( causes magicka drain, people hardly use this, use this on one of the keep corners aiming at the Ram, it will drain the healers magicka so they can't purge as much and the oils etc will kill )

Wall and Door repairs, pretty self explanatory

REZ EVERYONE, I dunno how many times whole groups run past you and don't rez, that 1 dead player can be the make or break for a win/lose

If you are just beginning PvP I'd recommend not worrying too much about siege until you get used to the flow of combat unless you really like it and want to buy your own equipment. Even if the siege weapons aren't yours you can always defend them against enemy ganks and repair them with kits if they get low on hp. Every owned keep will have a siege merchant where you can stock up after a battle.

Because siege costs AP or gold to buy, some are AP only, some are really rare and I want to pack it up after a few shots so it doesn't get wasted.

During Midyear Mayhem I can run through 80 x 1800AP worth of siege in a single day... and sometimes I've actually gotten to touch less than 25% of the ones I put down. This is why we yell at pugs to bring their own siege. Especially since many pugs will jump on your siege, and promptly turn it away from a useful target to something random.

Everyone is happy if people don't touch siege that they did not put down. *unless instructed otherwise*

I can understand it maybe if you are using siege weapons to kill players. But if you're just pounding on a gate why does it matter who is using it to knock it down? You've already spent the AP or gold in either case.

Because I cannot kick YOU off to pack up that siege. So instead of being able to use it again on the inner door, or on multiple keeps, it's gone. 1800 per pop.

Alright. I guess that makes sense. But what if the player gets off as soon as the gate goes down? Would you mind it then?

I mean you've spent the AP either way and your siege contributed to knocking down the gate. What difference does it make who pushes the button over and over?

I usually buy several sieges and just hope someone else uses them for me so I don't have to worry with them. So I just don't understand what the big deal is, I'm sorry. lol

I much rather be running around fighting players or raising people then having to PvP some boring door while making myself vulnerable to be attacked. Maybe I'm just weird I guess.
