This means that after a short time you have to buy gold to pay for small things such as repairs, since you can't earn the money fast enough to pay for the damage as it happens.

If you add in an option to purchase gold legitimately, the prices on the items that are finally going down in price will skyrocket. Not only is this not the ideal solution to stopping Gold Sellers, it also ruins the economy.3 -

These kids who are in favor of buying gold don't care about how it will affect everyone else. They will be able to afford it because they are willing to spend their disposable income on a video game. They could care less if anyone else can afford it. They could care less about how it will affect the price of items that aren't being purchased with real life money. They don't care about legitimately earning things. Are you in the wrong thread?
No one is crying about not having a horse here...In fact, I worked hard to save up 42k so that I could buy the best horse in the game. Let me tell you that it feels great having earned my horse through hard work, and careful saving of funds. I'm broke now in-game, and couldn't be happier about it.
Had I simply bought a horse for $15 with out-of-game money (and I easily could have), it would've completely cheapened that experience. Instead, I appreciate that horse so, so much more now.

A better solution is a chat filter program. Normal people never use the terms "gold" "selling" "USD/EUR" and website names in the same sentence, so when the program detects things like that being said it filters and kicks the player. I offered a situation earlier why this would detect false positives. People actually discuss gold selling quite often, simply because gold sellers exist.
"Don't support gold selling, please"
"Please don't buy gold"
"I wish that Zenimax would crack down on these gold sellers"
"Can anything be done about the gold seller spam?"
Then there are the cases of gold sellers getting creative to get around any potential automatic filters:

Finagill✭Horrible idea. So the solution to fixing gold spammers is to offer an official gold spammer? Seems like there are about a 100 better ways including letting the gold spammers have free reign. The best option is to hire a few more GM's to focus on banning these guys. Make it a perma account wide ban so at least they have to buy a new copy of the game to try selling gold again.2

crush83✭✭✭✭This is really the solution. Ban buyers and sellers. Banning sellers will just increase revenue for Zenimax, as the sellers will have to buy more and more copies of the game. Likewise, the price of gold will go up to cover this cost of doing business. This will result in gold sellers not making enough money to cover expenses at which point they abandon the game (or start relying solely on phishing/hacking accounts, which they will/are doing anyways).Edited by crush83 on April 21, 2014 4:53PM0

If you really want to get rid of gold sellers, ban all the buyers along with them, and publicly name the accounts banned for doing so. Sales will dry up overnight once people realize not only can they lose their accounts, but they will be ostracized by the rest of the community and denied groups/guilds because of their actions.1 -
