Can a zos employee tell me

Can a zos employee tell me, why did performance during midyear mayhem increase. Specifically in pvp zones like cyrodiil. Ever since your "performance improvement plan" started and before that, performance in cyrodiil has been spiraling out of control. There is no denying it, everyone is constantly thinking about it, talking about it and getting mad about it.

However, during midyear mayhem performance was actually great, there was no 2 second skill delay, after casting a skill there was no huge delay before opponent took damage got stunned or rooted. This type of lag, we see every day, with no improvement of it.

So my only question remains, why was performance during Midyear mayhem good. Why aren't you implementing the changes you did if they work 1000x times better than your performance improvement plan. And it even worked without much effort from your side. Why?

Please remain civil and constructive aa i can see this discussion spiraling out of control from angry customers. Come with concrete examples of lag and videos if you have it. This cannot be ignored any longer.

I'm going to hazard a guess and it's because they allocated more server resources to Cyrodiil while taking away from pve, which for the record made many pve things borderline unplayable during MYM, even simple overland stuff was affected.
So why not just buy more server space? Probably judged too costly and they're oping coding optimization and rewriting will achieve the same, cheaper, in the long run. Operative term here being 'long run', they're far from done yet and none of us, the devs included, know whether or not this will actually work and we're probably about a year away from seeing any actual results if any are achieved. Plus it is likely to get worse yet before it gets better, in fact poor as performance is right now I expected it to be worse considering they're working on a live game slowly uncovering who knows how many layers of bad code and weirdness in the coding as they go.

I think alot of the extra resources taken might have been split 50/50 between existing servers in cyro and new one and also some in imperial city. Allocating that much extra space would be unnecessary as there wont be as many players normally compared to how it was during the event. So they could allocate slightly more in gray host, which is the laggiest.

You make some good points though, i was unaware that pve suffered heavily as i was mostly doing pvp during the event.

The bad code should get fixed, but i dont think it will be enough to fix the performance in cyrodiil. I dont know if they are allready doing this but they should relocate server space where it is needed. If something is never using above 20% while another server is using 90% constantly they could relocate some accordingly.

They just increased server slots for Midyear mayhem. After event they back to old setup.

To answer another question why they cant do it permanently are ... money. Zos propably is trying to fix other issue who have impact on servers like block, pets, account storage etc. to save money. Idk but maybe increasing server slots is expensive.

    1) Bomb groups and other concentrated AoE spammers, the number one source of lag, spread out over more campaigns.

    2) ZOS probably allocated more server resources to Cyrodil given that an event was going on there.

Which begs the question why they didn't if they did for MYM...

(for clarity I'm referring to PvE performance during this event)

I had the very same question. Turns out they CAN fix most of the performance issues. And they can do the fix with the literal flip of a switch. They choose not to at all times for some reason.
