Frags bug

Hello,

the patch notes for 6.1.0 mentioned that Crystal Fragments would proc off itself.
I have tested this intensively and I can safely say that this effect does not yet happen. Needs to be fixed please.

It seems like they do proc of the hard cast though (why) and making them a semi (bad) spammable with the lower cast time (why). I was happy too to see patch notes, up till people tested. Nightblades got a hefty buff though of 250 spell dmg or something.

I think it needs clarification before we will talk about a bug. Does patch note means frags can proc of their own proc or only of hard casted frags?

    Well the text says this:

    "Crystal Fragments (morph):

This ability can now proc off itself"

So I assumed that when the skill 'Crystal Fragments' is described and the text refers to 'itself', that means the already procced frags should reproc themselves.

That is why I think/thought it was a bug.

But yeah, this needs clarification, right

Nightblades did not get a damage buff in terms of a weapon or spell damage number.
Grim Focus was changed for more crit damage (10% to be exact), which is an average of around 5% due to the stacks being consumed every 5 light attacks.
That does make a little difference but nothing major.

Also, if the frags can really proc off themselves and it is really a bug, it means frags got a slight buff overall.

A fragment proc can not create a proc itself, as opposed to what the patchnotes say.
Whether this is a bug or not, fragments procing themselves would certainly be welcome.

Either this or at least have the fragment proc provide the 10% cost reduction for the next ability. It also does not do that right now. It seems like the unwanted mutation of crystal shard and crystal weapons so far.

I think they want sorc to use frags as a spammable with a chance to proc. They lowered cast time so you can weave it more easily.

    Also we've got this:

    Master Assassin:
This passive’s Weapon and Spell Damage is now granted to your damaging attacks against enemies you are flanking, rather than granting a universal amount while sneaking or invisible.
The Weapon and Spell Damage is now a flat 129/258, rather than granting 5/10% of your current amount.

I don't think this is a bug. By my reading, the whole point of the changes is to try to get more people to hard cast frags. They did this by reducing the cast time and adding perks like the cost reduction and the ability to proc itself. Adding those perks to the proc is just unnecessary on a skill that was already very powerful.

Well you can debate over the term 'unneccessary' :). But the text isn't really clear...
So let's see what the response is and what the devs really wanted to do here.

@Zayoo, @the1andonlyskwex tends to jump into other classes threads and tries to bomb their attempts of buffing them.

Personally I think, it would be really welcome to get rid of cast time on frags and allow it to proc it of it self. This would free one slot on sorcs bar, without making sorcs stupidly OP, just more diverse.

@Mayrael There's no need to chase me around the forum just because I'm opposed to your pet buff request.

Class balance is all relative. An ill-conceived buff to one class is just a nerf-in-disguise to all of the others.

As for my "credentials" for being in this thread (because I apparently have to play a class to have an opinion on it), my "main" for the last 2-3 months has been a sorc healer (PvE and BG PvP), and I'm extremely disappointed to be losing Crystal Blast (AoE burst damage that procs Blood Magic which then procs Power Surge = Good Times). The fact that it was considered to be the (almost) undisputably weaker morph is enough to indicate that the Frags proc doesn't need a buff.

Just because frags is the more popluar choice, doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a buff when we take into consideration performance of magsorc as a whole. Maybe it's my skill (lol, that can't be) or bad skills of sorcs I met, but I havent met magsorc that was able to kill me in 1v1 for a very long time, TBH its more the other way around eventhough I play magblade. Thats why I think that this could be good change, ofc, % chance should be monitored to not overbuff sorc so they could spam proced frags one after another for the whole fight but nevertheless, such change could bring something nice to this spec which was the target of many nerfs recently to.

It is supposed to only proc off of a hard cast (which it is on pts) not the proc, everywhere else in the game procs dont proc themselves....or at least they should not, who knows with zos.

A magblade - the worst class of all - always beats magsorc - the alleged strongest class of all - in a 1v1 over and over? This would go against the belief of all Nightblades on the forums. A magblade can not beat magsorcs; nobody can.

That's true actually. I thought I was imagining things, but I often proced my fragments off of hardcasts (which I only performed by accident, of course)

That almost solidfies my belief that they did intend for frag proc to proc another. Everything else would be pointless.

I'm sure you already know it but it needs to be said for some of us. If you meet 1 strong magblade or sorc per 50 or 100 magblades/sorcs in total, it doesn't mean the class is OP, it means you've met good player. The easiest way to tell if class is strong, is to look how average "Joe" handles it ;)

Magsorc can't run and hide in duels, which is their strong suit. Like rollerblades. Without the ability to avoid damage, they can't soak a lot up, generally.

MagBlades - will have test again with loss of Grim Focus mitigation - can be built extremely tanky. Not saying MagSorcs can't, it's just most don't.

Tank Vs Tank Magblade will always lose as it has far less burst.

Tank NB vs Squishy Sorc, NB wins.

    Squishy Vs Squishy, sorc wins.

What I always found strong about magblade was the high damage mittigation they had for a light armor build. It remains to be seen if that does not change now where Merciless Resolve lost the damage mitigation.

Yep, hard casting already could proc an instant frag. The change must be that an instant frag has a chance to proc another instant frag. This would be a welcome change, and makes sense because even instant frags cost Magicka to cast. However it must be bugged at the moment.

Yeah I have similar feelings when it goes to random sorc. Magblades? Well hard to tell, because it's pretty abandoned ship, people you will meet are usually not average players but the ones who simply love that class and stick to it no matter what. Random players are really really terrible, just use detection potion and they are dead before they realize what's happening.

Yeah we will see how it will go with change to merciless, it's a nerf for sure but... Somehow I don't really feel threatened.

Umm, I'm pretty sure hard cast frags has always been able to proc frags.

So when I read this, my first thought was, this is a change and proc'd frags can proc frags.

pretty easy to test. log into live on a sorc and start hard casting frags. tested around 50 frags hard casts and not a single proc so its safe to say it cant proc off itself on live

to be honest if this change goes through and cfrags instant procs cant proc off of itself and only the hardcast it's going to be very disappointing. one of the few things i was looking forward to this patch.

I don't chase you, I just found that again the only person that have something against buffing others is you :)

Be very careful Mayrael, for you spread the word of herecy.
A magblade - the worst class of all - always beats magsorc - the alleged strongest class of all - in a 1v1 over and over? This would go against the belief of all Nightblades on the forums. A magblade can not beat magsorcs; nobody can.

    Well, so they say.

:) I'm not "all nightblades" friend :) Magblade is not in a good shape by any means (just like magsorc) but it still can be very dangerous, the trick is not to follow cookie cutter builds and right hands on it ;)

From my observation, the average person handles Sorcerer terribly, which fueled my picture of them being a pretty weak class. People always want to tell me it's the top class, but I really do not see that at all. To me, it's a poor class just like Magblade.

What I always found strong about magblade was the high damage mittigation they had for a light armor build. It remains to be seen if that does not change now where Merciless Resolve lost the damage mitigation.

That is true. Only 10% of individual players are a threat (actually regardless of class), and not being a great pvp'er sorc's tend to be one of the easier targets for me. Then you meet a good one. One who has played sorc for years. It it becomes a monster class. OTOH, every stamcro, stamden is dangerous.

Wait, hard cast frags doesn’t proc instant frags on live? Since when? It definitely did a few months ago, and I don’t remember anything about a change. Not that I’ve intended to hard cast frags much, but I’m 100% sure I’ve gotten frag procs from accidental hard casts in the past.

I can't speak for what it was actually doing "a few months ago", but the tooltip is pretty unambiguous that only "other magicka abilities" can proc instant frags, and that definitely hasn't changed in years.

Sure enough. I just checked on live and hard casts of frags no longer proc instant frags. Now I'm curious when that behavior ended and if it was ever intended. The tooltip is a little ambiguous, does it mean "ability other than Crystal Frags" or "ability other than instant proc Crystal Frags"? Both have apparently been true at various times, with the former currently the case on live and the latter on PTS. This means that the patch note makes a lot more sense now, and maybe even on PTS there is no intent for instant procs to generate additional instant procs.

Currently on prod I'm using an add-on that prevents you hard casting Frags because of how often after you cast Frag proc, you go immediately into hard casting animation. Did the delay they added to the skill targeted at this problem actually fix this issue in PTS?

At this point, I believe it is merely bugged on live. Due to desyncs or delays, your hard casted crystal shards can cause proc. This happens to me almost every day. Though just spamming them does not cause this.
