Stranglers. Also dwemer spheres. Both mostly for their veteran dungeons mechanics which are annoying as hell.

Dungeon NPCs with shield tether effects, you know the one where the target becomes invulnerable, which would be fine if it didn’t glitch out EVERY SINGLE TIME, because the game forgets to make him vulnerable again after the first idiots been killed or he suddenly goes from 40k health to dead even if you only hit him with a single light attack.

The same goes for those daft humanoid ones that shoot up into the air and then when they land the game forgets to make them targetable for a few seconds while they stand there yelling and flexing for no obvious reason. Let’s face it, there can’t have been a single player in the history of this game that ever got hit by that slow motion telegraphed AOE

Or enemies with abilities whose effects don’t give you any warning whatsoever. In particular vardenfel has a number of dungeons where the NPC’s have untelegraphed special abilities. They don’t so much add difficulty but rather a kind of glitchy tedium. Mostly because a lot of the skills simply don’t work properly, like the ice wraith, the characters becoming invulnerable or the game simply forgets that the character should be able to be hit. These days if it’s one of those dungeons then I’ll just make sure the characters got plenty of stamina and I walked through the entire thing with my block up spamming AOE’s and wait for everything to die.

Also, in response to the previous thought about this game being on rails, I reluctantly have to agree. At least the base game has some degree of choice on your part. But for the last few expansions it feels as if we have no choice or agency at all. We are simply fulfilling a predetermined destiny. I miss being able to choose about things even if the choice is ultimately insignificant.

Definitely with you on the veteran dungeons, used to enjoy them until I realised that what I was basically doing was playing a game of guess the mechanic. It’s a bit like enjoying playing doom right up until you realise what the games underlying pattern is, after that the fun just drains away.

Maybe I’d be able to get past this if I actually got the opportunity to find out what the blasted story was in half of the dungeons, but even when you find a group that says that they want to listen to the story there is always some idiot that skips through it. I’ve been playing this game since launch and I probably know what the story is in maybe 10 dungeons, and pretty much all of those are in the base game.

Every overland mob that snares, but dies in like 1-2 light attacks. A PITA when you are moving around there for surveys, excavations or whatever. Ice Wraits too, but because they are impossible to target much of the time.

Stranglers for sure, if you're OG then Old School Doshia takes that spot

I remember the first time I fought on of those way back when. Made me completely revamp my build.

But really the most annoying is Varen Aquilarios, even more than Struga. Having to listen to him prattle on yet again.... Vestige.

Oh, I know most mechanics and I'm perfectly eager to learn the rest, vet dlc dungeons are my absolute favourite part of the game. It's just that these two types of mobs tend to have excessively annoying mechanics there - either with strangler annoying pull (extra annoyance points in MHK for immortal stranglers that turn you into skeever, that one is just next level of evil) out of the blue or equally annoying dwemer sphere op AoE+CC, which can be oh so hard to see.
