Question about glyphs (PvE tanking)

So I haven't changed glyphs in...well, ever, been running the usual Absorb Stam. I've been looking at Weakening glyph for front bar, so simple question: will this actually do anything in PvE?

Going on a one-hand sword, non-infused, front bar.

Edit: got impatient, tested it, it works. Surprisingly well honestly. Figured I'd leave this up for the next Googler.

    It works? Afaik bosses have enormous amounts of weapon/spell damage so reducing it by a couple hundred is not gonna affect the amount of damage they deal to a noticable degree. I use absorb magicka on my tank.

    Even if it's just a percent or two, it adds up. I'll give it a whirl for a while, see if I miss the little bit of Stam

    I have no idea how much weapon damage bosses have, but a two hand infused weakening enchant plus nightblade power extraction is like 650 reduced damage.

    Out of curiosity, can you tell us how precisely you tested it?

    He just added up the numbers. 200 from Power Extraction and 452 from the infused Weaking glyph = 652 weapon/spell power reduction when active at the same time. It's not insignificant, but typically a tank is still using Crusher on their backbar because the net benefit of reduced armor is rated much higher vs reduced incoming damage.
    A support role is all about optimizing how buffs and debuffs are given out. It's easier to reduce enemy weapon damage with a skill like Power Extraction since tank skill bars are flexible. It's easier to use a monster set like Vykosa to reduce weapon damage + still keep full value Crusher if the situation calls for it.

    That being said, plenty of tanks use Weakening on the front bar if they choose not to use Absorb Stamina/Magicka because it does help a little bit.

    I let a netch beat on me, then I gave it a whack, then let it beat on me some more. Pre-whack damage was higher than post-whack damage. EZ

    @Cortimi

    Ok, that’s what I was afraid of. Your test is going to be horribly skewed.

    Weak creatures have very low weapon and spell power. So when your glyph debuffs them it knocks out a disproportionately high amount of their damage. Your glyph will seem massive.

    But when you go to any creature that actually matters, your glyph will barely impact their damage at all. You probably wouldn’t shave off even half of a percent of a trial boss’s damage. For a quick comparison go do your same test on a world boss.

    @Skelfish I was asking how he tested, not how the other guy did math. But I sincere thank you for your patience in explaining something so basic. 😃

    It works. I'm a healer and one of my Resto staves I actually carry an infused staff with a weakening glyph.
