How will ESO handle moving to the next gen consoles?

Haven’t seen a post about this, or maybe I missed it, but has ZoS or anyone discussed about ESO on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Will we have to start over new, or will we be able to move our accounts over to the new consoles?

Not sure about PS5 but MS has already said that if it plays currently on the XO, then it will on the Series X from day one.

I expect ZOs to have a (payed of course) upgrade tp next gen where you can keep your progress. So basically: Buy the game again on Next Gen, continue playing.

I would hope they would do what Bungie is doing with Destiny to where current players can upgrade to the PS5/Series X version of the game for free and still play on your same account.

As long as I can play my same account though, that’s all I’m really worried about.

Why would you have to buy ESO again? As far as I'm aware both next gen consoles will have backward compatibility, which means you just have to put the disc in (or download), install and play.

Again, I can't speak to PS, but for XBOX, if you have ESO on disc, you'd just put the disc in the series X and it will play the game. If you have it digitally, it would already be in your game library ready to download (then play). ESO is also a GamePass title.

You wont have to re-buy the game.

The series X will even upscale the game to the better graphic ability and loading speed of the new system.

That's not how the ecosystems are working going forward.

If the game works currently on the xbox (and more than likely ps as well), the game is going to work on the new system.

This has nothing to do with the devs, the game will be read by the system and played as if it were on the current gen.

This is the new paradigm moving forward.

In MS case, even peripherals and such move forward, you can bring you current controllers, headphones, mics, etc. with you.

Don't get me wrong guys, I totally expect that it will be possible to just download and install ESO on the next gen consoles and be done with it. However, as this is Bethesda after all, I can see them releasing a "High Quality Version" for PS5 and charge for it (and let's be honest, don't we all expect to see Skyrim Next Gen as well?)

If Skyrim hits next gen, it has to be a remake (not gonna happen, I know). None of this remaster nonsense. I know they managed to sell us Skyrim yet again with the new chapter, but hey, I think even for Beth, giving us yet another new gen Skyrim would be a step too far.

Certainly a question I think Zos should provide a clear answer regarding.

My understanding is that backwards compatibility will be a feature of both consoles, so that we will be able to play the current version of ESO, on the new consoles. But it would be nice if Zos clarified matters.
