Scammed by Crown Seller

Hey guys. So today i got scammed by a guy who selling crown on zone.
So the question what can i do about it or where can i report him.

Open a ticket either on the site or through the game. Include screenshots of chat with this person if you have them.

You can certainly report him. Zos sometimes has helped in the past. However, they started becoming reluctant to help as there is a personal responsibility when trading such things with total strangers.

Submit a ticket and have your screenshots/recording showing the conversation and the attempted trade ready.

Yes, open a ticket and hopefully they'll be able to do something about it. However keep in mind that Zenimax support is extremely slow. We're talking in days, maybe weeks for reply.

Also, @Apollorrc - your first response will most likely NOT have anything to do with the actual ticket. Don't panic; just respond to that reply by restating the problem and including again screenies if you have them. Respond within a day or so, or they'll close your ticket assuming you don't need more help.

Yup i know they are slow and actually i dont really care if i get my gold back or anything, i just dont want anyone else be scammed.

BTW, there are some means that players have used that help protect them from such a scam. I think there is a discord related to crown trading where you can find some of the ideas like using a third player to hold the gold until the crown item is provided. You will likely get sound advice from them. Maybe someone can post a link to that Discord.

It does behoove everyone to be extremely cautious when dealing with a complete stranger. There are jerks (polite term) like this in every MMORPG.

There's also a Tamriel Crown Exchange website. As far as I know, it's pretty reputable.

@Apollorrc submit a ticket like others have suggested. Please be sure to reply, as you want a real person helping you solve your issue.

With crown sellers...,may I suggest that you wait till you have the item before sending the gold. I never had a problem doing it this way or finding someone.

That just opens up people for scams the other way around. Expecting Crown sellers to send a gift to someone who disappears and never pays up isn't a good solution. Getting scammed out of real money is a bit more impactful than getting scammed out of ingame gold.

Of course, Crown buyers also shouldn't get scammed, and ZOS really should have introduced a safe way to trade currencies already. Other games do it just fine, just copy them and be done with it. WoW and GW2 have direct currency exchanges through an ingame interface, and SWTOR allows the trading of actual store items since they aren't Bound. Either of these would be a good solution.

In the meantime, people who want to trade safely can join a Crown Trading discord. These have verified members who are vetted based on successful trade evidence screenshots, and you can also request a broker if you want who will act as a guarantor during the exchange.

Honestly just never send the gold before the crowns. I’m a crown seller myself but I don’t scam, but I always get the gold before the crown item gets gifted. My defense is I’m spending real money and you’re spending virtual gold. So unless you run into a guy like me who always get the crown item first then send gold or do half now and half after the crown item gets sent. Half and half I respect as a crown seller too. If they don’t agree to half and half OR sending the crown item first simply disengage and find a guildie or someone else who’s willing to do business on your terms. I hate people like this giving the rest of us a bad name.

I don't buy or sell crowns in game and never will.

But, I think the most prudent course of action is 50% gold upfront, receive the crowns, 50% gold after delivery.

At least if they do bail on you, its not the full hit to your gold.

And its just not going to be agreeable to them to give away Real money in the hopes that the receiver will follow through and send the in-game gold.

This wouldn't be a problem if ZoS had provided the tools to directly trade crowns for gold, but curiously they actually sanctioned these 'trades' when peeps started using the gifting option for that purpose, probably because they make money either way. It would make logical sense to implement crowns in the trading UI yet here we are, years later with this vulnerability still in place.

Honestly, ZOS doing nothing against this becaus it's the player's risk and responsibility is a bit of a Pontuis Pilate move. How hard could it be to implement a COD option for gifting? Then again, I think we all know the reason behind it...

Only trade with ppl you know are reliable - its like IRL .
At least IRL you can find them and shoot an arrow in their knee

You can use specialized guilds that are the middle man in crown/gold exchange , usually happens on discord and its a bit more expencive.
But dont get your hopes up that Zos will go anything - its very case sensitive.
Usually I dont sell my crowns - when I do is usually when ppl I know need something.
Those that scam or try to do it is 90% of the times gold sellers on 3rd party websites - the rest is just random greedy fcks.

Its not like you need that much gold in the game tbh - unless you are into gold sinking stuff like housing or gearing alt after alt.

Always a risk.
Its best to only trade with people you trust

I traded from zone chat because I had so much gold losing it wouldn't matter and getting a banker was worth the risk.

Well it isn't something ZOS would be responsible for - they do not support this kind of trade and aren't policing it - so you can ask them nicely to eventually have a chat with that guy who scammed you - but otherwise, it is your business to deal with it.

If you got screenshot,and they scammed you,you might not get anything back,since they probably spent/laundered it in multiple places.ZOS will look into it,and probably jsut temp ban the person if first offense.

There is a golden rule when you buy crowns for gold.

ALWAYS have the seller sent you what you asked for first, then pay him in gold.

Now look at it from the other side - that guy spent real money for those crowns, the buyer on the other side offers just virtual currency, where he spent no real money on. IMO he has no right to have demands at all .- he wants something, where another person spent real money on, whereas he has chosen not to, and dares to make demands - that is not ok this way, sorry.

A trustworthy middle man is a solution - who takes the gold first - then the item for crowns is gifted and if all is ok, the gold is transferred to the crown seller. It has downsides as well though - what if the buyer says, he never received the item even if he has.

I agree but most reported scams come from buyers who lost their gold. It's mostly scam sellers than scam buyers.
