Move the hip flaps to belts

I know that many people who love the outfit system dislike that many chest pieces have annoying floating hip flaps and crotch rags which clip with other pieces of armor or with weapons.

A guild mate came up with this idea, to have these flaps attached to the waist piece instead of being tied with the chest piece.
The motif will not be changed, flaps won't be removed, just moved from the chest piece to the waist piece.

This way people who don't want hip flaps can use a belt from a motif that does not have flaps, like Oder of the Hour or Honor Guard, and I am sure it will open a lot of new cool outfit opportunities.

Honestly, there are some "hip flaps" that look like books or satchels that I really like--Breton, Fang Lair, and Sapiarch come to mind. I'd love to be able to take those accessories and wear them with other chest pieces.

So for that reason, moving hip flaps to belts would be a big win for me.

I wear Orc belts because they still clip inside the character body completely, becoming hidden. Pretty sure the Orc style has flaps, so then all my characters would suddenly have random flaps on them. Not a win for me.

If they also added a "hide belt" option, then you'd have to update all of your outfits, sure, but then you wouldn't have to rely on an art error to hide your belts.

'Cause I'd also like a "hide" option for every slot, in addition to having flaps moved to the waist slot.

    Great idea!

It would certainly open up many more options. And, of course, a hide option for every slot would be wonderful as well.

I wouldn't really mind that. But I guess they're probably appropriate and fine on up to half the heavy armor styles. They should be on no more than about 15% of the medium armors and on exactly none of the light armor styles.

I wish the side flaps were gone, or downsized.

I've wondered if there is a reason for the flaps. Like a skin tearing that they can't fix with the engine.

I like the idea but that would mean having to go in and redesign every piece of armor that has the flaps and also redesigning the corresponding belts. Not sure they are committed to that kind of time to change existing content.

Maybe they can move the bug-fix team to the job.

This. Moving the flaps does not solve what many have been asking for. It just moves them around. A real solution of hiding them is what needs to be done. Zos has said they will get to this eventually, irrc.

That would be really effective. Belts are so underused because they barely affect anything. And hip flaps are frustrating because you can't change them without changing the whole leg.

The devs can do this from now on with new motifs, if redesigning would be such a big task.

I believe it is complicated to make a toggle that hides a part of a model. And it's not just about making a spandex suit (there are several solutions already for such an outfit type), you can create robes without flaps, or use certain flaps to different chest pieces. The Sapiarch motif has a small bag, the Dragonhorn (I think) have flasks, books, scrolls, etc which could be used in combination with other chest styles. I would lose the metal flaps from the Militant Ordinator, keep the skirt and chest, but add something like the Sapiarch bag, because my char is a magicka user.

This would be an improvement. Allowing us to remove them completely would be even better. Also let us hide shoulders.

They'd have to go back and do all of the old motifs, because having the hip flaps attached to belts on newer motifs and chests in older motifs would create a clipping nightmare.

In my amateur, uninformed opinion, moving the flaps seems like it wouldn't be too hard. The flaps float off the hip depending on your character's body shape, so it seems like they're a separate part of the chest piece model that is attached to different bones. Detaching them from chests and adding them to belts seems like it should be relatively simple--perhaps even something that could be automated, depending on how their models are implemented.

There may be some art-specific reason that this is much more complicated than I realize.

Most of the butt flaps are just that, flaps. They need to go, especially on light armour.

    SOME of them, mind you.

There's a handful that actually look good on the armour and an even smaller handful that are historically accurate (Imperial heavy is basically Roman Legionnaire). So it would ruin the look if they were all just chopped off.

Sunspire heavy has this neat cloth flap on the front with writing on it.

Fang Lair and the PVP alternate have books (even though I think dual books look silly) and pockets and flasks.

Much as I like the idea of being able to get rid of flaps, my concern would be that I would then be stuck with a belt buckle I didn't like.

As, of course, the one I like would end up being the one with flaps everywhere...

That's interesting to me. Very few of my characters care about what belt buckle they have--I almost always choose the cheapest reasonable option, since the buckle is so easy to overlook. The flaps are so much more noticeable to me. If they were attached to the waist, I'd actually care about what goes in that slot.

Got to say I'm with the "send them to oblivion" folks .. they seem utterly pointless, and nonsensical just floating unattached by your hips .. ridiculous .. get rid of em PLEASE

As well can move older sets to the bug team since it seems they barely fix bugs.

I say just get rid of the flaps that have no point to them besides just being there, and attach the ones like Fang Lair to the belt... which is oddly enough just a buckle and not a belt at all.

Would support this. I don't hate those tassets, but on light armor it shouldn't be a thing.
But what annouys me more atm is that all new motifs have a crotch flap but missed anything on the butt. I have to constantly wear morag tong medium legs or similar cause I rly hate the look of it ^^

By the look of some chest pieces that already come without those flaps, no, thank you. A toggle would be okay but removing them makes me want to puke. Ever used that metal t-shirt that Order of the Hour is? It's a heavy fashion crime (as well).

My proposal is in the line of giving people more options, not removing or changing the way their outfits look. I also don't want to judge other people's preferences in terms of outfits. If someone likes these flaps/rags then fine, but let us have the option to switch these flaps by changing the belt, not the chest piece, because these elements are rarely attached to the chest piece, they would fit better in the waist slot. I also say the buckle is easily missed on an outfit, some buckles are hidden by the chest piece completely, and I do not mind that. Some buckles are so oversided and ridiculous, but that's a matter of taste.
