Antiquities - Love it, but now what?

I do love the addition of Scrying and Excavating items in Greymoor. But I'm at a point right now where, besides it keeping me busy, I don't have anything to do with the stuff I excavation. I mean, none of the furnishings or the gear that we can uncover is sellable. So why go after it again and again? I mean, how many stone arches can you place in your homes? Wondering why we can't sell them at the Traders. And actually, lots of the treasures, I sure wish they were furnishing knick-knacks!

So any ideas?

I'm working on getting multiples of all the furnishings so that I can fill in the codex entries, but that's just me. Keep in mind that now this system is in the game, I can see them adding more and more leads with every new major game update. I highly doubt they'd go to the trouble of making this entire system in and then not add in new leads as time goes by.

The gear isn't sellable? I'm getting set items and generic items frequently as bonus rewards that are sellable. Plus the repeatable leads are decent for making gold if you enjoy wandering the world, picking up mats on the way, and just relaxing with it. What @Saucy_Jack mentions about codex entries is relevant too for some players.

The big question on my mind at this point is how much it's going to cost to buy new leads when these updates are added. Somehow, I just don't imagine it's going to be free.

I want them to every couple updates, when there's like a new dungeon pack, for them to release some more furnishings. Otherwise the furnishings we have now will be grinded out 10 times each and we'll have nothing else to get. They should go back and release more furnishings for each of the Dungeon Packs as well as the zone DLC's

Its a system that shines or crumbles depending on the type of player you are. It can range from wanting all the codex entries, to just wanting a specific furnishing/mythic item, to being completely uninterested in the system. I think the true test for this system is consistent updates. This entire system heavily relies on the idea that they will continuously add new antiquities, which begs the question: how long will that last?

I expect every 3 months to get a new handful of shinies to go after, but part of me believes they have no intention of keeping up that consistency if they ever do that to begin with, so it really is just a matter of seeing what they do with the system.

This is what happens when players grind through content that is designed to be a side activity ...

The Motifs from Treasure Map Chest leads are also tradeable, hence why suddenly Treasure Maps are now worth selling or doing! :)

Nothing lasts forever. It's just about adding more things to do. I think it's great that zones are more active and we are running into players at random world bosses and in delves again even if its only temporary. New players will have more to choose from with every new feature they add and that can only be a good thing.

It's funny that I've heard a bunch of people complaining about the recent price hike of treasure maps in traders right now after listening to five years of complaints about how treasure maps were worthless and they were tired of having their inventory clogged up with maps they simply trashed.

I agree. The only problem with adding a significant number of leads over time is that eventually, there will be an overload of leads, unless they start disabling some of the old ones (which I can agree with).

You can most definitely sell the repeatable leads to NPCs for prices that add up. I made 127k just leveling my scrying to 7 so I can farm mythics. Very easy gold. I also believe they will add more leads/antiquities/mythic items in future DLCs. No way they just let this new system rot and become redundant.

What's the value of leveling antiquities on alts? Is there plenty of items that can be found more than once, or will someone wanting to get the achievements on multiple characters run into issues?

It is easy gold, that's for sure. Need some gold, just go excavate a few areas! LOL. In fact, I do it in every area when I'm doing my crafting surveys.

I'm level 10 scrying and excavation. And the starter green items (and any item, as long as you get a lead for it) for each area can be found any number of times that you want. Usually, it gives you a blue item to scry.

I started to level it on my alt, but I am spoiled by the skills I have on my main, and leveling up can be a bit tedious. But I think I will anyway.

Wait for next year? Or maybe even last quarter. I'm sure they'll add new stuff so people and regrind all the areas. And this time maybe they'll reduce the drop rate so it isn't so fast to get everything.

I'm in the process of making an antiquities museum; Essential Housing Tools has a way to add NPCs and make them "talk" via popup text. Once I have all the codex entries, I'll have an NPC by each furnishing, giving the full lore of it and the lead location/source.

Just wait until you get to gold level leads and see how they are completely. Urged like they were on the PTS. complete bs.

That's exactly what I'm doing right now and you're right, I find it to be very relaxing, it's almost meditative. I didn't even want to buy the chapter, but I was also whining to my husband at one point about how I really wanted to have the Sacrificial Pocket Mammoth and - since I'm on PS4 - would only get it if I bought Greymoor in the first two weeks after release, meaning I wouldn't get it at all now.
Well, apparently he took the hint that actually wasn't meant as a hint and gifted me the chapter, so I thought I'd look into the whole antiquities thing, even though I didn't think too much of it at first. But now I have to admit I'm totally into it, way more than I could have anticipated, and I pretty much spent the last few days just wandering the old maps, excavating stuff and collecting codex entries. I know lots of people don't seem to like the minigames, but I actually enjoy them and the codices are really interesting, lore-wise.
However, up until now I have been under the impression that you can sell everything as well, although admittedly I haven't found too many furnishings yet, and the ones I did get I put in my homes. Can you really not sell them? Would be a shame if I had to start to destroy stuff just because I can't do anything else with it.

I don't believe anything from antiquities is tradeable, although the freebie greens/blues/purples and eventually freebie gold are all sellable to a merchant.

Can you destroy leads because I think that will be a wanted thing in the future. We'll just let them expire. Would be nice to sell the furnishings because that could be some nice income

I'm just wondering out loud folks, nothing more than that.

So far I have gotten some pretty cool furnishings that I like and have used in my homes. But do I really find a place for multiple throne chairs, or Ashen gates etc? And there are some I can't possibly use, or would never need more than one. So, since I can't trade them at the trader, I store them in my storage unit. The good gear you get says bind on pickup, so that means you can't sell them at the trader. Yes, there are bonus items that are sellable, but that's not what I'm referring to. The furniture excavated has 0 value at the NPC merchant.

Just a response to your verbal (textual?) musings...

I am holding out some misguided hope that they will change (unbind) the furnishings when Greymoor becomes basic DLC next year with the release of the Hammerfell expansion and Antiquities become more accessible to the masses.

They'll make furnishing sellable at some point. Right now they want everyone to pay for them

I do hope it's not a one and done thing. Fingers crossed they add worthwhile stuff (not just 4 housing items) with most new content.

The mythics are an amazing addition for build diversity in pvp. Like, making a build is by no means a two minutes job anymore, slapping the same sets on everyone. So I hope they keep releasing new mythics and not just leave them as they are forever like they're done with voluendrung.
