But I'm at a point right now where, besides it keeping me busy, I don't have anything to do with the stuff I excavation. I mean, none of the furnishings or the gear that we can uncover is sellable. So why go after it again and again?

It can range from wanting all the codex entries, to just wanting a specific furnishing/mythic item, to being completely uninterested in the system. I think the true test for this system is consistent updates. This entire system heavily relies on the idea that they will continuously add new antiquities, which begs the question: how long will that last?
I expect every 3 months to get a new handful of shinies to go after, but part of me believes they have no intention of keeping up that consistency if they ever do that to begin with, so it really is just a matter of seeing what they do with the system.

It's funny that I've heard a bunch of people complaining about the recent price hike of treasure maps in traders right now after listening to five years of complaints about how treasure maps were worthless and they were tired of having their inventory clogged up with maps they simply trashed.
- Asks for years for treasure maps to be made worthwhile.
- ZOS adds motifs and bound furnishings to treasure maps.
- Complains that treasure maps are too expensive to buy from traders...

Keep in mind that now this system is in the game, I can see them adding more and more leads with every new major game update. I highly doubt they'd go to the trouble of making this entire system in and then not add in new leads as time goes by.

Is there a specific reason for finishing the codex entries?
The gear isn't sellable? I'm getting set items and generic items frequently as bonus rewards that are sellable. Plus the repeatable leads are decent for making gold if you enjoy wandering the world, picking up mats on the way, and just relaxing with it. What @Saucy_Jack mentions about codex entries is relevant too for some players.
I'm just wondering out loud folks, nothing more than that.
So far I have gotten some pretty cool furnishings that I like and have used in my homes. But do I really find a place for multiple throne chairs, or Ashen gates etc? And there are some I can't possibly use, or would never need more than one. So, since I can't trade them at the trader, I store them in my storage unit. The good gear you get says bind on pickup, so that means you can't sell them at the trader. Yes, there are bonus items that are sellable, but that's not what I'm referring to. The furniture excavated has 0 value at the NPC merchant.
